I received the update, downloaded it and got stuck on reboot. After 45 minutes I battery pulled, now it says system is up to date sub software 2.2. Help.

Default Will an inactive phone get the update?

I currently have the DInc2, but have turned my DInc1 on and connected via wifi. Will it receive the update or does it need to have an active subscription to Verizon to get it?

Man damn. So I have been lurking for the last few months prior to this update. Anyway, I knew it might be a mess. God I remember the froyo saga.

Anyway, so I just got the OTA and installed. At first it got stuck at the droid eye. SO I did a factory reset. Still getting stuck. Anyone else having this issue?

Default OTA worked

Well, the OTA worked without a problem. Phone says v 2.3.4. The home screens and widgets were there and working. But, I have to reinstall many (all?) of my purchased apps.

BTW -- I do not know how to tell what version of Sense is running. But, some of the widgets seem more animated. For example, the home page clock actually clearly shows the numbers flipping.

OK -- I cannot tell which apps need to be installed and which ones do not.

It seems that some free apps, which require logins to synchronize, need to be reinstalled -- such as Opentable and Urbanspoon. But, once reinstalled, they remember the login information and work as they did before.

Some paid apps do work without reinstalling.

So, expect a little time trying to remember what is missing. So far, no data has been lost.

Ahhh .... I discovered the pattern ...

All the apps that I moved to the SD card need to be reinstalled. Once reinstalled, they remember.

you can not install the ota if you still have a custom recovery (clockwork recovery)

So now that the ota has downloaded, but not installed, how do I get it to install? Anyone know?

Got mine in Knoxville, TN this morning. Really wish I had read this thread about the missing apps before I updated, but oh well. I hadn't been around lately and didn't even know a new update was on the way...

I was really hoping the next update would address the infuriating "low space" warning that makes my eye twitch and makes me consider switching to iPhone every few weeks or so. But soon after I updated, there was my old nemesis again. Hooray.

Default Got it

I awoke this morning at 7am and had the notification on my phone. The download and upgrade went well. I don,t see any apps missing or changed. My phone does feel faster and respond better. I had moved all my apps to the phone last night after reading the posts here. (thanks to all of you who do what you do ) Going to try to move apps back to sd card later today

My 3g isnt working. I have already factory reset. Reboot does no good. Not sure what to do next. I think I have to be on data connection to get my backup assistant to work as well, which kinda sucks. Any ideas?

Update arrived in the Baltimore area overnight. Area code 443. Saw several comments about hanging up at the "Eye".
Mine hung there for about 10 minutes, then finished with no action on my part.
Everything looks good so far.

Maybe it has something to do with when you activated your phone that determines the update process. I didn't get mine until last thanksgiving. Unless someone else who bought their phone then already got it.

Is there a feature list of how this update is supposed to be different? I don't see one on the board anywhere. The only difference I've noticed is slightly different icons and my SD card apps are missing.

No update for me. Although a friend did and he had problems with missing apps.

I really wonder what criteria VZW uses for who gets OTA updates. Seniority doesn't count because I've been with them for around 10 years. Date of purchase doesn't count. Data usage don't count. The size of my bill doesn't count. The number of posts on this forum don't count.

And I doubt it's "random". The general public doesn't really understand the true definition of random, and it doesn't matter if the pattern is imperceptible to a 2nd party.

AHHHH

I woke up to get the update. Installed in 10 minutes or so. But I can't use it. I am stuck in this Sense Force Close Loop.

I've taken the SD Card out and will probably try a factory reset. F***ing phone

To answer my own question, found a feature list here:

Android 2.3 Platform Highlights | Android Developers

Hmm... none of that appears to really benefit me that much. So I basically just got rid of a bunch of apps. Awesome.

I got the update overnight, she did not.

This happened to me as well, rooted with unrevoked, running stock Rom. I've since uninstalled Rom manager and deleted my clockwork mod files from SD. It still says my phone is up to date running 2.2 I've lost my gingerbread OTA!

I also got the notice this morning. Hit install now, and it started with the green circle screen, then quickly went to the red triangle screen. Sat there for fifteen minutes. I finally did battery pull, and mine is also still on 2.2 Hope it pushes again.

My system update screen didn't look anything like what is shown on VZW website. Did not start at all like what is shown there.

Got the update here in Chicago this morning. Like the 'quick boot' feature. Phone starts up now in about 4-5 seconds after turning it off.

If your rooted and on the stock rom this is what happens. Don't completely understand it really but it is what it is...

Honestly, if you're rooted I just wouldn't worry about it... within a couple days you will have a kick ass rom based off this. No need for the possibility of either losing root or borking phone trying to install official ota on rooted phone...

Florida Panhandle here and no update yet. Last night I did move all my apps off the SD card and onto the phone. Immediately got the "Low on Space" warning since I am now down to 254mb left on the phone. Once I get the update, I will move everything back onto the SD card.

Crossing fingers and hoping for a smooth transformation.

I am not rooted. I used to use Z4 to temp root for certain apps, but haven't for several months. All stock.

Got mine this morning(Chicago burbs). some things seem a little quicker...things appear in notification bar a little different, new icons for small things like, the speaker shown when adjusting volume..but I just noticed that for some reason when i go to facebook, that i can't comment on anything....the box just simply isn't there...anyone else?

Also, got a sprint showing market, and hardware lists 4.3 screen...way to go VZW

That'll screw it up. We found that out back on the move to 2.2. If you removed bloat...it doesn't perceive your phone to be "stock" and you don't get the update. You'll probably have to flash stock 2.2 before you can get the OTA.

Not sure if that has something to do with it or not....

Think they will continue to roll out during day... you could search just this forum (inc section) for the froyo update thread. It was obviously in aug/sep and shouldn't be *too* hard to find... i gotta run or i would track it down for you

ANd i have to root to flash 2.2 on the phone? I didn't remove any bloat. Only used it for certain things. I don't even have Z4 on the phone anymore.
Is there a way to flash stock 2.2 without rooting? I do not want to have to do that. IS it possible to go into a store and have them flash it?

Even if you didn't remove anything, my thinking is that if you did anything with that temporary root access that would have changed something on /data or /system, it may recognize that. I'm not 100% on this but am just relating it to the known issues of the past. This could be the case even if Z4 is not actively on the phone. Yes, you can run the 2.2 RUU and you don't have to be rooted. If you're iffy about it, just wait until the OTA has been fully rolled out and see if you're left standing alone.

I've been getting bugged for the update since I'm on Virtuous I have to keep denying it :/

Does anyone know if the RUU is out yet?

(I really want know because I'm waiting for roms built off of it, not because I want to lose root)

Exactly how do i get stock 2.2 on there without rooting? I am interested in doing that now. I am only interested in rooting if i never get the update.

Should have a 2.2 RUU in the root section though i'm not that familiar with using it. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me can point you to exactly what you need

Got it this morning! I was as excited as a kid in a candy store! My phone prompted me when I was still sleeping, so I clicked it and went back to bed, only to wake up completely Gingerbreaded!

I can't wait to see the difference in the performance...I'm gunna be messing around with it all day

I know the feeling. I am not rooted. I would rather Verizon pull the update and fix it before I install it.
