Talking Gingerbread 2.3 was here, then gone, now it's back

I've not seen one, but we had a really long and fun thread for the Froyo waiting room... are we going to have a "waiting room"/speculation thread on Gingerbread for the Incredible (for those of us who have not rooted or are waiting to root)

Can't wait for gingerbread Anyone have any legitimate guesses on when us Inc users could see it in an OTA? Also, what are the main features that everyone is looking forward to??

Sure, we can have one. Matter of fact, I'll just make this the speculation thread for now.

I heard there was a representative from HTC that has a box in the back of a Lexus with an Incredible in it with Gingerbread already installed on it. From what I heard, he was a heavy set man with a hot temper too.

I speculate it will be March or April before we see Gingerbread, if we see it at all. And this is based on if Google announces it in the next week or so or they announce it next month. It took Verizon and HTC about 3 months after Google announced Froyo to push it to the Incredible. So I would expect about that same time frame but probably longer since Google is rumored to be revamping so much with Gingerbread. And it might be longer because HTC might want to push the new version of Sense along with Gingerbread, if they don't do it before they update us to Gingerbread. So, I'm not expecting this update to come any time in the near future. But by the time I'm speculating our phones will probably be so far beyond obsolete it will be hilarous. So there is always the chance we may not even get it at all.

Keeping in mind the whole "Incredible might be phased out by 3/11" situation, I am guessing that around then is when we will start hearing rumors of people seeing it in the wild with the actual update coming pretty close to June or July-ish. By then though, I will have moved on to something with 4G, front cam, >1GHz CPU, and ≥ 4.0" screen, especially if the battery issues are not addressed.

Within 30 days of it being pushed to the Nexus, elements of it will be baked into a ROM for those of us that are rooted, regardless if HTC ever sends it out or not.

Eric Schmidt Shows Off Nexus S Running Gingerbread, Mentions Release Time Frame - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Over at Droid life I saw this article. He says Gingerbread should be out in the next few weeks. But when it hits the Incredible is anyone's guess.

"He also mentioned that Android 2.3 should be out in the “next few weeks” and that Google TV talks with the major networks are going well."

Yeah, I've been thinking about rooting, flashing to get Gingerbread (once a stabl-ish ROM is available).

I was under the impression that Gingerbread eliminated the need for a 3rd party GUI like Sense. Why don't we just get Gingerbread plain without the frosting?

HTC has already released statements saying that they will still apply their custom skins over Android even after it has been improved by google.

I think all companies will continue to do this to make their product more of their own and also take longer to release updates.

Default Choice would be great

I think it'd be lovely if HTC gave us the option to have vanilla android or Sense. So you could just upgrade to the newest vanilla release, then load Sense if you wanted once they got it ready. Ah, dreams of a perfect world.....

You mean there isn't one yet?

I figure we'll see one around Dec 10... because someone will be bored at work due to holiday slowdowns and starts one just for kicks.

Someone said that there is no such thing as Gingerbread.

Someone also told me that pill I swallowed would cure that burning sensation...

I heard from a reliable source, my friend's cousin's mailman's proctologist said he already has 2.3 and he is getting more than 48 hours up time on a single one hour charge but complained that 47 hours were taken up loading VZ bloatware and the other hour was spent dealing with keyboard lag.

^That must be true because my mailman always acts like he has a stick up his butt.

Lovie Smith just signaled me from the sideline that the Incredible will get Gingerbread in time for Christmas...2012.

Seriously though, I do not care if the Incredible gets Gingerbread. By the time Gingerbread gets officially pushed to the Incredible Verizon will have a large LTE network established with dual core phones. One more thing, the Incredible is nice and all, but the plastic housing = horrible. Battery Life = horrible. I have had this phone for about 4 months and wish I would have picked a different phone. One thing that I must say is that in these 4 months I have grown accustomed to HTC Sense. If I were to switch phones, it would be to the Fascinate (for the hardware), rooted with a Sense ROM.

I love my Incredible. It's my best friend and constant companion. I will be sad when I decide it's time to upgrade. It will be like throwing away a favorite pet. I had my first Four Loko tonight and am much more talkative than usual.

I find it hard to part with things that I use a lot, but the build quality of this phone is so bad that I can't wait until VZW comes out with a phone that meets my requirements for my next phone.

Google CEO: Android 2.3 coming "in the next few weeks" - Update - The H Open Source: News and Features

Quote:
Speaking at the Web 2.0 Summit currently taking place in San Francisco until the 17th of November, Google CEO and Chairman of the Board Eric Schmidt confirmed that version 2.3 of the company's open source mobile operating system code named "Gingerbread", previously thought to be Android 3.0, will be launching "in the next few weeks".
So Verizon should get it all tested and rolled out some time in 2013. <--- In case the sarcasm wasn't obvious.
