preorders on the 18th arnt getting the phones in hand ... until the 29th at BB.
i think the general thought is some reviewers have gotten the phones in hand, but have some sort of agreement to wait until the 18th/19th to post their reviews. Not sure why, but that's what most seem to think.
I would think HTC would want these reviews coming out BEFORE its released to get even more people hyped up.....
i love the sense music player, weather animations, built in flash and clock, but wish i could put it back to stock android with those features. maybe in a custom rom once it gets rooted we can be able to do that? i want to be able to pick certain things from both.
Those features are widgets. I beleive you can turn of Sense UI and still use the HTC Widgets.
Well I've been enrolled for 2 years, so after 2 years I should be entitled to using that discount towards a m2m, 1 year, or 2 year contract. My Choice. Now, not being enrolled afterwards isnt my concern. I'm available for a discount now because I've been a loyal and paying cust for 2 years.
Saddly, its not new every 2, its NFSUF2M or new for signing up for 2 more.
i agree but I did try to use my ne2 discount on a one year contract for a droid and they would not let me do it. I am glad I got pissed and walked out now. Now getting the incredible
I wonder how hard it will be to remove that VZW logo on the front of the phone without scratching it. I hate how phone companies put such gawdy branding on their phones.
Eh, I know NKT said it didn't have the MT "bug", but I'm really not so sure. Unless HTC decided to go with a different input sensor than on the N1 and Desire, it still has it. But who knows. We'll find out for sure soon enough.
There's NO WAY Verizon would have officially announced this phone and have a release set in stone if it had the same screen problems as the Nexus One. The problem has either been fixed for this screen, was never happening with this screen, or this phone uses a completely different screen. We have too many testers who are friends and silent contributors to this thread. None of them have had anything but wonderful things to say about the phone and they've all confirmed that it has no problems in testing. So, don't plan on a multi-touch bug. The Incredible won't have it.

By the very nature of its name you should be able to get it, even if you do a one year contract(and stick around for an additional year). Its upsetting that they tell you that you are eligible for the discount but then put 2000000 qualifiers on how you can use it, leaving you with no options.
But hey, as you said, its allowing you to get the incredible now. Sometimes things happen for a reason.
it's probably metal or something shiny and the light from the camera is reflecting off of it making it look that way. i hope i am wrong b/c that would be so sick

I really want to believe it doesn't, but the Desire has it as well, and that is the closest device HTC has to the Incredible. Unless HTC decided to change suppliers for the sensor (not likely), or it was somehow a software bug that they fixed (possible, but not likely since we would have heard about a fix on the N1 and Desire too by now), it'll still have it.
I REALLY, REALLY want to believe it's fixed, trust me. That and the stupid subpixel arrangement of the OLED screen are all thats holding me back from this. I just don't really have any proof to say that it doesn't (testers saying MT "works well" isn't really proof that they fixed the "bug")

I TOTALLY agree with you. However, after seeing the pictures of the Incredible "in the wild" I think the Verizon logo at the top is very minimalistic. At least it's small and isn't all red and white and stuff. That would be ugly. I DO kinda wish it just had an HTC logo in place of the Verizon one though. Either way, I don't think the Verizon branding is going to be much of a big deal to me, anymore. However, it would be nice to know if we can remove it somehow. I saw a post a few days ago about how you can use some clear tape and a sugar cube to remove it, but I'm not so sure. I think I'll just leave mine the way it is when I get it. It looks pretty hot to me the way it is.

I noticed that also, smart.... probably to compete with best buy for all those people pre-ordering full price. We will see on the 18th if you can on verizon's website.
Looks like they changed it back.

Edit: No...I may be wrong. Maybe it is just a reflection from the flash. Because in the first picture the buttons aren't glowing but the trackpad apears to be. So, if it were illuminating along with the other buttons it would be dark when they are dark.
The first picture the phone is locked and I think when it's locked the buttons don't light up.

Yeah, I just looked at the sugar cube method and I'd rather not try that. The HTC logo there would be nice indeed.
@ NASH
sorry if i offended you. I was just giving you an idea, I suppose i didn't understand.
Nah, it's cool. No harm done. You're new to the forum and you just weren't aware that I'm the resident Photoshop master. haha Not a big deal. Welcome to the forum by the way. Good to have our new members contributing!
I wonder if we'll be able to download and install a launcher like Helix Launcher and use that rather than the Sense launcher but still have access to HTC Widgets. Might be worth checking out if anyone knows someonee with a phone running Sense.
once you turn off sense you turn off all the widgets along with it. helix launcher will not work along side the sense widgets. if you really like the look of the sense weather widgets i recomend you purchase beautiful widgets. its like 1.99 and it looks exactly alike. just download some skins for it and customize to your hearts desire. i actually like the beautiful widgets better than the htc weather/clock widget.

oh! haha well good to know!! yes, this is only me third day, well second really because I joined only two nights ago! I really like it here and thanks for the welcome
Every Android phone has the notification bar that slides down. But you won't have the 3D Launcher unless you turn Sense of completely. You'll get the same type of list but it won't have the rolling look the N1 has.
try helix launcher 2 it works for phones with 2.1... and you can still use the live wallpapers, plus u get book marks at the bottom of the screen that stays there as you scroll from screen to screen. that way you always have icons that you use all the time at the bottom and not have to switch to that particular home screen to acess that app.
the good thing about helix launcher is you will be running stock android, but with the helix launcher you get to chose how many home screens you actually want. starting with 3-5-7. so if you only need 5 screens then it gives you only 5 screens. but if you want 7 screens then it gives you 7 screens. but stock android you are stuck with 3 screens.
ohhhh 1 more thing. it also rotates the homescreens to the left when you turn the screen to its side. stock android doesent do that.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought when I read that tutorial. Kinda sounds about the same thing as taking a piece of sand paper to it, in my opinion. haha I'll think I'll just keep it original. I've been waiting for this phone for WAY too long to just get it and start grinding on it with sugar cubes and melting it with Goo Off. It does, however, appear to be Verizon Wireless branding approved though. So...

Maybe we can request one of our anonymous friends who has the device to run this test as one of the first videos? That would answer the question once and for all, and we'd likely get our answer before the 29th.
I'm willing to send $5 via paypal to the first person to post a video of the Incredible running the multitouch test. Anyone else willing to pitch in? We might be able to get it quicker if there's an incentive.
Oh my god! I love you! That is by far the most responsive android phone to date, AND it even has voice to text which the DESIRE DOES NOT! Awesome find.
I just called 611 and talked with a nice woman named Belinda. My NE2 isn't due until August sometime. I asked about getting it moved up and she said that if it was within a month they could work something out, but August was too far away. I did double check with her that despite not completing my current 2 yr contract, that I could buy the DI at the 2 yr contract price ($200) - confirmed.
I think I'll go your route and see if I can't plead my case via email. After all, I've been non-problem customer of theirs since 2001 and I currently give them $160 of my money every month for a family share plan.
I agree with you...ntbeachnc is lucky.
I just called *611 and my NE2 is up 6/18/10 and was just told "only VZW STORES can bump up NE2 dates". Really? I think ntbeachnc would disagree. I even read her that post to no avail.
I will also try the email route. My gf is pre-ordering (dropping ATT) and I CANNOT let her have a 6 week jump on me!

They were doing this for just about anyone that asked via email and phone for the Droid. I assume they will do the same here. Just keep asking.

What struck me was how red the earpiece looked. It didn't seem as bright in the other pictures. While normally a little bit of accent is good. I can't help but think this phone would look better blacked out as sleek as the rest of it looks. This thing is saaawheeet!!!

No, look up vids of the desire and you'll see the lack of a microphone icon on the keyboard. It gives users an error when they try to do it. Something like "hardware does not support text to speech engine" or something like that
The real photo reassures me that, yes, this phone will look damn good in person.
meh.. the front looks great, if a bit iphone-y but the back looks like a cheapo piece of plastic, no? i'm afraid that it will feel like a cheap piece of plastic on the back.. that thin hollow plastic sound if you tap on it, and maybe a bit flexible.. instead of solid like an iphone/n1/eris/droid

i seriously doubt anyone will care what the back looks like once you put that nice gradient red/black case on there

I e-mailed Verizon this morning to ask about having my NE2 moved up from 7/8, and they did. Here is their response:
"Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. My name is --, and I received your email in which you are asking about the possibility of having your New Every Two Upgrade moved up from 7/8/2010 to 4/29/2010. I appreciate your interest in the Droid Incredible. Having the opportunity to upgrade to the latest phones is always an exciting time for me too. I will be happy to assist you with your inquiry.
Ms. --, in seeing that you have been such a loyal customer with an incredible payment history since 2003, your eligible upgrade date has been moved up to 4/29/2010. After logging into your My Verizon account, you will be able to see the update. Keep in mind, with the new phone, you will be agreeing to a new one or two-year contract.
I hope you enjoy using the new Droid Incredible. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to assist you today. We appreciate your business and thank you for using Verizon Wireless. Should you have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this e-mail."
Not sure if it'll work for everybody, but it's worth a shot.
wow, when i called they said they couldn't update my verzion online to show the updated date. which means i can't preorder unless i want to pay full price. said all they could do is "notate" it in the notes for my account for when going into the store.
I wish my wife understood this!!! She really wants to try and hold out for the new iphone.
I'm in a comparable predicament. We have a family plan on Alltel with four phones; two are HTC Touch Pros that are still under contract (my wife and I carry those). The other phones are regular non-smart phones. Because Verizon wants us to move to a Verizon plan, we can go ahead and get the upgrade price on replacements for the TPs with a year to go. But if we want to upgrade one or both of these, it appears that all of the phones will need to be upgraded to move to the Verizon plan. Apparently its possible to have Verizon phones and remain on an Alltel plan, but not the other way around.
My wife wants to hold out for a possible iPhone release on Verizon. I've sent her info. on the Incredible. I told her she can use the Incredible in the meantime, and if she still wants to get the iPhone if/when it comes out, I'll get it for her even if we have to pay full retail. She has her phone working the way she wants it to (notwithstanding the fact that it sometimes has episodes of locking up or rebooting) and doesn't want to learn anything new, though, so that means getting a comparable WM phone - and I don't want to blow the incentives/discounts on an already outdated phone that would be a mere replacement/lateral move from what she already has.
It would be great if we could go ahead and switch to a Verizon plan and move the existing phones and only upgrade mine, but that doesn't appear possible unless I pay full retail for my Incredible. Does anyone know any different?
And if I were to do that (pay full retail), what would the downside be, if any, of running the Incredible on the Alltel plan?

I'm planning on blacking my phone out, I believe. I'm going to probably paint the red ear piece screen black. It wouldn't be hard at all. Just mask the rest of the phone off with masking tape, buy some black automotive paint at Walmart (or some other store maybe Autozone) and paint it. Sounds easy enough to me. Plus, it would make your phone more unique. That's probably what I'll do.
