I like the phone coverage. But the internet coverage sucks. I pay freakin 60 bucks a month for SLOW ASS internet 1 1/2 bars. And can only use 5MB and get charged for any extra. I pretty much use my internet for home use. And I have to wait until 2011 to end it. They are sucking me dry right now. At&t or tmobile is looking pretty damn good right now
I'm a little confused what you have. Are you using the Broadband Connect plan for your phone for home internet use?
Yep, I may just jump ship to T-Mob now that they have the HD2, which is really the HTC phone I've wanted all along. It's a beast of a smartphone, is going to run WinMo 7
Is it sad I am considering a Microsoft 7 phone when I hate the company and everything they stand for? I need to take a pill and go to bed. This whole fiasco is making me mentally ill!
To Microsoft's credit, I've been very impressed so far with the Windows 7 O.S. I intentionally held out upgrading (as many XP users have) after hearing all of the Vista horror stories. I was always happy with XP, but this is a much slicker and intuitive interface and runs like a dream. I do believe they got it right this time and I suspect they are going to make a BIG push into the smartphone arena with WinMo 7 devices.
Before I got my current Blackberry 8830 I had an U.T. Starcom XV67000 on Verizon that ran Windows Mobile 5. It was buggy as heck and a battery hog, but it wasn't a horrible experience. They were in the mobile O.S. biz as purely a defensive play back then, but I think Steve Ballmer has finally righted the ship and you're going to see Microsoft begin to flex its muscle in this arena. It's become too big a category for them to ignore and simply amble along as they have and they know it.
From all the beta testing I've heard done on WinMo 7, it's supposed to be every bit as slick and solid as its new desktop counterpart is. With all the resources MS has at it's disposal you'd be foolish to ever count them out of anything. Look at how they changed the gaming industry with X-box. Who'da thunk they'd ever be able to come out with a gaming system that could rival Sony, Nintendo and the now defunct Sega? But they did and set a new standard along the way.
lol I was just joking. It is a great phone. I have handled it a lot, but I am a geek and I need Android! Apple has made a huge accomplishment with their phone. It's smooth, the apps are awesome, and it just works. That is something that all phone manufacturers should look at.
I do apologize. I was debating for a few seconds whether or not to post that. You can never tell a tone of voice through text. No hard feelings guys?

If Verizon would just throw us a freaking bone it would satiate much of the angst in this forum by subscribers who LOVE their network, but simply want more contemporary state-of-the-art freakin' smartphones to choose from.
Someone in the executive suite this past fall publicly said that though they have the best network in the industry they were now going to have the best handsets to go along with it. Well, since that announcement we've had four smartphones that I can think of that have been released - two Blackberry models, the Droid and Droid Eris. Even though I'm a Blackberry user I don't even consider them part of the equation. It's old school technology that's solidly build and reliable, but more for corporate users.
No, when I heard that statement the first thing that came to my mind was "iPhone Killer" handsets and that is how I stumbled on to this forum. So we're now 6 months down the road and just where the hell are all these great handsets they purported to be coming out with? Was it all talk and no substance? I mean the Droid's a nice phone, but I had an old XV6700 that had a sliding keyboard and don't want that form factor anymore. I played with a Droid Eris at a Verizon store and found it too slow and jumpy for my liking, although I really liked Sense. But neither phone is an "iPhone Killer", IMHO.
So where are all these "great phones" in terms of development? We don't know and that's where much of the frustration and anger is coming from. Whereas T-mobile was quick to announce several new phones they are coming out with shortly and AT&T (VZW's primary competitor) has been uncannily astute to leak information on their newest handsets to create a "buzz" in advance of their release, Verizon does little to nothing in terms of advance promotion of any of their soon to be released handsets. It's a joke and a wonder how they've been able to keep those of us here sitting on pins and needles for months hoping for little crumbs and morsels to fall our way as it concerns the N1 and Incredible.
If Verizon was more aggressive from a marketing and product development standpoint they could bury the competition, but they seem all too content with the market share they have and don't seem too concerned what their loyal customers think. How does it feel to continually get sand kicked in your face by them, folks? Not too good, huh? Yet we continue to show up here day in and day out hoping and praying for some solid news on these handsets.
I'm about at the end of my rope and if there isn't some HUGE announcement made by them at CTIA (or before), I'm done, as I can't invest any more emotional energy than I already have in this and am tired of Verizon's empty promises.

It has recently occurred to me that the group of us here is in an astronomically huge minority where Verizon - and what they have planned - is concerned. Look where their focus is nowadays - they're steadily setting their sights on the younger generation. They're pushing the Palm line, the Devour, and now the Microsoft Pink line - all geared directly towards the social networking crowd, i.e. teenagers - with more devices to come. This is the exact same approach that Sony took years ago - and look how successful they are now! They started off by getting their "My First Sony" walkman in the hands of teens, and now you have adults who will buy nothing but Sony. Same goes for Verizon at present - they will get the youth of today looking at Verizon's products (and service) in a positive light and they will never want to look any further. It's a proven success story.
This all makes me wonder how hard Verizon really is working to satisfy us - the tech-savvy crowd - by releasing top-tier devices, such as our much-anticipated Incredible, on a consistent basis. Personally, I was floored at the insane speed and efficiency at which the Devour was first mentioned and then showed up for sale. It just goes to show that Verizon can do what they wish, at whatever pace they decide is most profitable for them. They honestly don't care about us and our impotent rage over not getting what we want. Sad, but true.

i just dont get it though.. if they had a phone that could really rival the iphone i could see them crushing all the other carriers. its no secret that their service is the best now if they just had handsets to complement it i dont see what would stop them from dominating. sure you would still have your apple fanboys but if you have a serious piece of equipment to the iphone it that would seem like enough to do the job. look at sprint and tmob theyre tryin to get people to come over to them by havin hot ass phones. i cant for the life of me figure out why verizon would let them capitalize on that niche when its not any extra work than targeting the middle of the road people
Yea, Very little of what Verizon actually does has me slated as a die hard fan of VZW. I don't see HTC benefitting my Cellular & ANDROID needs. If HTC actually is the downfall, and we'll see if the Incredible actually has a measley 256 mgs, and I've waited since before Thanksgiving, I will not resign all interest in VZW. I can't rely on "Faith" That Motorolla's Nexus Two will be out anytime by the summer's commence, and if VZW Will even get that phone. Other service providers presently are offereing the HD2, The Nexus 1, The Supersonic. I'm not going to list any motorola phones. Palm pre also rings a bell. I am not benefitting with my lame phone company, and their akward procedures with HTC and Google providing me with fewer android phones far greater apart in release than other wireless providers. Why did the NEO Geo go out of bussines, Turbo Graffix 16, Atari Jaguar, Sega Dreamcast? I'm aware VZW, and HTC Will not go out of busienss. I'm simply comparing the sparse release of quality products with other known legendary dissapointments.
NEO GEO!!!!!!!!!!!! Best Reference EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hehehe my video post made it to the front pages on phandroid.com
Yeah, nice find, I just tipped it over at Engadget. Don't know if they'll pay too much attention to someone like me , but I sure enjoyed watching that Eskimo handle the SS. Now if only the SS and Incredible would be the same phone. Life would be so much easier. I think I'm starting to lean towards the SS if indeed the Incredible gets delayed because of some "redesign"

Just doing some random searching on Twitter, I found two HTC employees (one, apparently, will be manning -or in this case "wo-manning" - the booth at HTC booth at CTIA).. those with Twitter accounts mind trying to get any info out of them?
This first one is just a normal HTC America employee. eric L (finderic) on Twitter
I found this post to be interesting.. I wonder what he means by latest phones. HTC Desire/Legend, or something else?
So 2 things related to the incredible as i've recently found on my eris. I uninstalled the YouMail app and swapped batteries in my phone with a fresh one. 1 work day later not using the phone i am at 95% left in my battery where with the youmail app i'd be at 10% or battery would be shot. leads me to my next complaint, why did it show that youmail wasn't running since in the "manage applications" part i couldn't force close it(box was grayed out).
here is my gripe, if the incredible suffers from the same android problems of multitasking that my eris does then i certainly don't want one.
one thing that apple at least did right in not allowing multitasking ensures that you don't have background applications eating up your memory and battery. also if i force stop(apple's version of force close) an app, it doesn't restart until i open it again.
google has a lot of work on android and all these things are ones that should have been worked out in development process. now i don't mind FC'ing an app to make sure it won't stay running in the background if i don't need it but if i FC it then i want it to stay stopped until i start it up again.
the droid doesn't seem to have this problem but the eris does which makes me nervous about it since it may be related to something HTC put in the firmware? do they have any influence or say what goes in the firmware or is it all Google or does HTC actually receive the firmware and make tweaks so it runs ok or what?
This thread has become comical. I feel like I'm reliving the Omnia II thread from last Fall. The threats about leaving by a certain date. The anger towards Verizon. Now people here are jumping to WinMo? Last Fall, as the days and weeks continued to drag on without the slightest bit of info, a number of folks defected to Android, myself included. Now I'm on an Android forum with people considering a defection to WinMo. Classic!!

Too bad it won't work completely throughout the US. (Sorry, couldn't resist. )
I've been able to upgrade since Jan. 13, and my contract expires May 15, so if T-Mobile or Sprint announce something awesome, and will come out relatively soon, I'd think about switching.
1. I like the VZW coverage....who doesn't
2. I'd have to separate off of the family plan I'm on....I just pay my parents my share, but I have the primary line cause they don't care about getting good phones.
3. I'd have to change my phone number, cause I'd be switching states from South Dakota
I live in the Minneapolis metro, so I can get good coverage from Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Also, Sprint has Minneapolis as one of the next cities to get their 4G, so if the Supersonic is announced and is truly awesome, I may hold out for that.
I am in the same boat. 5/5/10 for my contract. I hope VZW pulls it together!

Been out of contract since last May, almost a year now. I'm usually pretty impulsive when it comes to purchases, so I have no idea why I've been able to hold off for so long. Was obsessed with the Droid for quite a while (e-mail folders, bookmarks, etc), but have moved on to the Incredible. Now having thoughts about waiting to make a decision until my b-day in July since if the Incredible comes to pass there will be a better sense of how it is, plus more might be known about the Moto Shadow or possible iPhone on Verizon. I'm now rocking the Moto e815 since my Razr2 broke though. Ugh! The wait/decision making is draining! Anybody know if there's a time limit on when I can use my New Every 2 on Verizon or if it holds on until I finally make up my mind?

That and LTE. Seems like the only headline news coming out of the VZW camp lately is LTE this and LTE that. Almost like they are gonna forget about expanding and improving their 3g... They just want LTE up and as fast as possible.

that's because this is Verizon, this is how it is, and nothing has changed. We all got excited last fall when it seemed like the business model had changed, but so far (5 months or so into it) it feels like the same old same old. But to their defense (gulp, because I am just as frustrated as everyone) they did put out the palm stuff (which to us doesn't count)... and i do feel like it is a bit of the "grass is always greener" syndrome. None of the other carriers have actually released any of the phones we're all threatening to leave for... if you were to jump ship today, you'd walk into your alternative carrier store and still be frustrated by choices (today anyway) and when all is said and done, you'll be on a network that may or may not work the way you want. It depends on where you live. Where I am, there is no choice. They are all non existent, aside from VZ. The other carriers have let more rumors out, but nothing matters until the phones are out. For all we know, an HTC device could come out of nowhere for VZ... whether it is the Incredible or not. I really don't think they are going to ride the Eris as their only HTC android device for much longer.

I don't think there is a limit. If I don't have a ballin' piece of cell phone equipment by 5/5/10 I am either doing 1 of 2 things:
1. Getting an iPhone, enjoying it, hating my life for crappy service, and being done with it. Then when VZW gets an LTE iPhone switching back.
OR
2. Paying month by month and waiting for VZW to wow me. I just don't want gray hair by the time I get my first smartphone. BTW, I'm going to be 24 this June
I really don't want to go the #1 route. My family and most of my friends have VZW. My family probably won't switch either, because they don't really care about the phones. Just want reliable service. However, with VZW lacking in the "quality" basic phone department, maybe they will jump ship too. Their phones are 2+ years old. I know they will not be getting a phone they have to spend 9.99 a month on data. My rents don't even txt They won't be interested in some razzle phone *hit either.

My 2 main lines have been up since August and my kids are up April 14th. I remember back that they were waiting on the Lg EnV2 and Samsung Alias. Also, my bill is due like on the 11th of the month but starts over the 16th of each month and I try to but in that window where they don't prorate the plans.

I've been able to upgrade since 2006!
Just been buying used phones on eBay, waiting for something great to show up on Verizon. Droid is too blocky, Eris still not up-to-date on the OS. What other choice is there from these people??
Finally, word of the Incredible...which is vaguely being waved at us like a carrot. This is so frustrating. Weren't we expecting this as the HTC Dragon/Passion last fall?? VZW execs are clueless, still offering the worst selection of phones...while probably busting their buttons with pride, thinking they've got the best.
^^^^ I hope April is a big month lol. I have an enV2 and it let me tell you... There is no envy going on... lol It's an alright phone, but for the most part it's like talking into a calculator. WTF was I thinking? Oh that's right, when my upgrade came there was nothing else worth buying lol.
I think something is coming for sure. When, I don't know. I want to say soon and I think within a month or so we will at LEAST have word from VZW and/or some confirmations.
If you have noticed VZW corporate, especially the head guy, Ivan Seidenberg (sp?) has been quiet lately.. There was actually an article about it I read not that long ago. VZW just isn't saying much, a little here and there about LTE (and it is the same info. every time). Could be they are laying low to really blow people out of the water with some BIG news. Major handset, major aquisition, etc. I am NOT starting a rumor lol. It is just purely my own hypothesis.
VZW isn't dumb (arogant? Oh hell yes)... They have to realize that people want a big time handset on their network. The Moto Droid isn't going to do it forever. Plus that handset tends to be a love/hate phone. You either love it, or hate it. They know people like their network and will be loyal (for as long as they can hold out), but people also WANT AWESOME handsets. They are going to have to address it sooner or later, whether "later" means LTE, I dunno. Let's hope it doesn't take that long.

They're the company we hate to love.
I do think a shakeup, up top might be good. Someone with creative, new ideas and someone who is a shaker/mover. Someone who can get big time handsets that people will want. Not some kiddy project pink *hits. That's what gulls me. They miss an oppertunity like the iphone, so they jump on the next, "so called" big thing, project pink? Now granted they did jump on Android, which is awesome, but their lineup is turning lackluster.
Let's be honest.. Project Pink is lame. I am not that far removed from being a teen, but if I were still a teen getting my first phone I wouldn't want some lame project pink, turtle mothereffin' lookin' phone or some slider *hit that looks cheap as hell... I'd be like, Mom, Dad, get me an iphone! Kids are a LOT more technologically savvy these days, they want what is hott! Not a palm pre knock-off.
I may be way off in left field here, maybe VZW will jam this up my @ss and Project Pink will be a huge success. I just have my doubts until it happens.
^^^^ Besides, I got phone books duct taped to my body like Damien from Friday After Next. I never risk it...

I'm not a Verizon apologist, however,.... quit the crying.
Which carrier still has the most powerful and most current Android OS on a phone you can walk into the store and buy??? Verizon.
What other phone is there that isn't vaporware at this point that we know is coming that is more powerful and runs the next highest version of Android available? Nexus One which is coming to Verizon and we've known that since day one.
They haven't dropped the ball on Android whatsoever.
The HTC Desire, HTC Legend, etc. hasn't been CONFIRMED for ANY (US) carrier (Outside of internet blogs written by nobodies without sources). It's not like Verizon is the only person not getting top notch Android phones.
I am just as frustrated as anybody over the wait, but get real. Something will be here before we know it and Verizon isn't going to sit around offerering the Droid only while everybody else moves on. I think the entire Incredible situation shows that. There is stuff in the works. This is tech. This is business. This is how it happens.
They could bring out the Incredible, the Desire or any other top tier phone next week and some of you would complain because there is a rumor that AT&T or T-Mo is getting something better in six months. Geeeeez.

We can't expect to get a new android phone every month. That would be too costly to the carrier as far as all that needs to go into releasing a phone. Of course there's gonna be a break in between when the Moto Droid was released and when their next Android release will be, and don't expect the Incredible/N1 to break open the dams. I'm sure there'll be a dry period after they're released too.

Here's how to get back to Kappy:
product-reviews.net
phonereviews.co.uk
cooltechzone.com
cooltechzone.com (points to another article from itself)
boygeniusreport.com
Our Very Own Kappy!
lol, just PM, that'll work fine lol
I posted the e-mail here (first) and fwd it to one site. BGR and from that, all the other sites took it, tweaked it as their own, added their own made up stuff, etc and now it's getting out of control lol. I FWD the e-mail to a member on here who asked for it and copied and pasted it here. So you guys all read it. We know what I was told.
BUT
even that you have to take with a grain of salt until it is officially announced/released. Nothing is 100% until the release.

@ GDGT they could annouce the N1 for a 3/23 release and at CTIA they could annouce the Incredible for a April/May release. Would that ease some of the tensions everyone?? lol

Woop: I believe these are two different events, which bares us watching over the next week or so. I saw the reference to the gdgt party last night, which is coming up March 15 in Austin. Maybe we won't have to wait until the 23rd to get some more news:

2. Paying month by month and waiting for VZW to wow me. I just don't want gray hair by the time I get my first smartphone. BTW, I'm going to be 24 this June
LOL - I've been doing this for 2 years now, waiting for Verizon to wow me, and I'm still walking around with my now 4 year old Razr that desperately needs to have the battery replaced yet again (I've been limping on poor battery performance since the Fall). I'm really pushing the limitations of how much longer I can hold out, both personally and hardware-wise.
Dang! I live in Austin and would definitely go to that event if I didn't have to work. And when I say "have" I mean that it will be difficult but I'm going to try to get some vacation time.
If anyone else lives in Austin and is planning on attending....and would be willing to recon the HTC phones I could rest a little easier going to work that day!

I had a razr before my enV2. I actually loved the razr, except it got beat after 2 years, literally, and my battery was shot and the reception on the phone would spike at full bars and drop to 1 like constantly, and I couldn't really make calls so I had to upgrade lol. Otherwise, the phone looked pretty good (physically after 2 years of use). I was very happy with it. Much more than my enV2.

Don't get too excited but MAYBE I will have some more information later on... When I receive my reply/phone call I will post everything right here ASAP.
That's all I'm saying, I want to keep some suspense haha Don't get excited tho, it probably isn't going to yield anything new or exciting.
Geeeeez.
I pay enough money to Verizon Wireless every month...therefore, I think I'm entitled to bitch a little now and then!
