Default Upgrade to 4G = lose your unlimited data

so I've heard that if you upgrade your phone to a 4G phone, you have to surrender your unlimited data plan if you were grandfathered in under the old plan. is that true?

Default

Buy unsubsidized: keep unlimited, no new contract

Take a subsidy: lose unlimited, new contract

What's the absolute, definitive, final answer to a grandfathered unlimited data plan question
