Default Can I buy a used droid incredible off eBay and use it as a wifi only device without a contract?

I am selling my iPod touch, because I want to buy a android device. I can either buy a galaxy player, or could I buy a used droid on eBay and use it like a iPod touch (no contract, just wifi)? I would just want it for music, web, and some apps. Could I do this? Because the samsung galaxy player doesn't seem very good. Thanks

Yes. I have my og Droid Incredible which works great as a wifi device. Movies, music, email and video chat just to name a few. You can even make phone calls on gtalk and Skype.

It will remind you to activate the phone each time you start it. Just cancel out the reminder and everything works fine.

The way I go past the activation screen is to call the activation number and hang up on the call. Takes three or four times till the phone gives up trying. Then it's all good.

Yup the trick to get past the activation screen, is to let it call the activation number, the call will eventually fail (don't hang up) . And you'll be all set.

So if I get it, it will bring up a activation screen, and I just call the number and hang up or how does that work? Thanks so much!

NOT hanging up has always worked for me. The call will hang itself up after it fails.

I use an evo 4g for that its got a larger 4.3 inch screen and a kick stand so it will stand up to watch movies. I use the über sonic rom for inactive devices I don't know how to post link on here but the rom link can be found in the all things rooted guide of the evo 4g. If you can't find the rom pm me. But it's awesome takes all the phone features off the phone to extend battery life look into it it works awesome if you want an evo 4g I'm pretty. Sure there is a mod selling really nice condition one in the for sale section of the forum and IDE bet he would be willing to send it to you rooted.

That's super easy ill help u with evo the forum over there has a ton of support from developers and all. There is a huge movement with those phones because they have a huge screen and a radio that cell companies are phasing out is making so lots of people are doing what you want with that phone. And a 15% larger screen! I can go on and on but it's the phone for what you are trying to do pm me if you have questions i have rooted two evos so far and loaded the media player rom on both no issues at all awesome wifi media player.

But even if it wasn't rooted it would work great and has the 4.3inch screen and an hdmi out for streaming to tv

I own both so I can say they are awesome but giving u my two cents.

Great choice the dinc is awesome did you buy it from an individual or a company on ebay?

How much was it? how was the quality of the unit you received? any issues you had or was the transaction smooth? How about shipping? I ask these things because most of the dincs purchased these days are used through amazon and ebay and anytime we can review one of these transaction it will be very useful.

It was used, and 39.99. I haven't received it yet,it should be here Monday or Tuesday! It was from a ebayer who only sells cellphones, they had good ratings.

you can fix that i've heard a couple fixes i know if we get you rooted we can take care of that no problem but i also think i remember reading in the dinc threads if you call and let it sit until verizon disconnects a couple times it will stop sending you that msg. try searching in here i'm sure i read a thread titled just that.

I bought a class C condition dinc from chubbies tech on ebay for 40.02$ well i bought two the first was pretty rough broken audio port and cracked screen the second is real nice but i told them i was sending the first back for a refund before they sent out the second but really i was happy as can be with the second phone which arrived today! plan on rooting it tonight ill let you know how it goes. i plan on using mine for pretty much the same thing as you mine is connected to verizon but i plan to use it to make calls and listen to music that's about it.

I just got a Thunderbolt ($45) and another Incredible ($37) from Chubbies (ebay). Both were in amazing condition. So I upgraded, kept unlimited data, and now have two dinc spares. Hooray!
