I use live wallpapers. Right now I'm using Nicky Bubbles. Had Mario Bros. I like to change them. No problem with battery life. Only when I enable 3g is there a problem.
Device(s): HTC Thunderbolt (rooted, ROMS switch to often to keep updating this). Have owned the Droid Incredib

Very vibrant coral reef picture with a turtle swimming though. Even better. Probably eats up battery just as much!
Are you serious? While I will admit that live wallpapers are more of a gimmick than anything, I think a nice elegant one adds to the phone's aesthetic value. It has nothing to do with age. I use Nexusmod with grey tones over a the darkest background, and it looks nice. It has a very subdued elegance about it.

NNK - EXACTLY! I love my nexus mod background, and I use different colors depending on which case I have on it that day.
Doesn't use enough of my battery to slow me down! And I love showing people just tap the screen all over, yeah look how responsive!! Quit hating on the live wallpapers, if you are killing your battery, don't blame it on the wallpapers.

i like to think of myself as the king of live wallpapers. i have about 25 of them on my phone and about 20 were for frizzle! my top ones would have to be circles, nexus revamped pro, and the 5 live wallpapers from the new samsung phones which can be found over at XDA fourms. and the whole battery life thing is minimal. the most ive gotten from running all day is 2% usage.
I use the HTC Sense live wallpaper that came with the Incredible. Since I started using the 2150 battery, it doesn't seem to affect my uptime all that much.
I tried Mario Live (brought back memories of early Nintendo) and lost all my shortcuts, widgets and bookmarks on all of my screens. Is this right? It's like I was starting from scratch. The guy at the Verizon store that was "normal" that a new wallpaper is like a whole new set up. That doesn't make sense; I've changed wallpapers on other phones and computers (who hasn't) and nothing changes except the background. I'm afraid to try it again as it was a pain re-doing the screens.
BTW, almost 50, but feel younger. If you're 25, you should definitely be using live wallpapers (at least sometimes and assuming you don't have the problem I did). Imho, of course!
Stop with the jamor bashing already! You're a day late and a dollar short. Read the thread before posting! Heh.
Seriously though, live wallpapers are great IMO. I haven't had my phone long enough to have any favorites yet but they definitely make the phone stand out.

yes around 2% of battery life is what a good live wallpaper uses. Live wallpaper doesn't have anything to do with age, the type of live wallpaper sure. i mean if you are a teenager you probably have hello kity live wallpaper but i am 32, why would i have an awsome beach picture as wallpaper when i can have a awsome moving ocean live wallpaper. when live wallpapers are coded correctly they won't cause any lag and over a day will be < 2% of battery which is less than if you fire up google maps for 5 minutes.
live wallpaers is just a nice feature of the phone, and if the live wallpaper is cool one i am more than willing to shovel out .99 for since it something i look at alot every day.
I've used live wallpapers almost exclusively since I got the phone. My favorites:
aCircuit Board
Digital Rain (Droid red matrix looks awesome)
Mario
Nexus Revamped (current)
Pixel Zombies (with my property as the background, snagged from Google Maps)
Starfield (probably the one I use most)
Substrate
In my experience it's been rare for the wallpaper to even show up on the battery use list. The only one I recall is Mario and it was something like 2%, no big deal.
Been using Starfield almost exclusively since I found it. Best feature is that it can slow down as the battery gets lower. And double tab for warp speed.
I've been using the live wallpaper grass since I received my phone, I've tried other's but keep going back to it, my battery life is fine, and I'm using the seidio 1750 battery, I named the theme grassyass.....
Tried live wallpapers - even better for me is "Wallswitch" - add as many wallpaper sized photos - set the time for the wallpaper to change and you have variety all day long
I guess I'm a 50+ year old teenager because I like the moving water and the flowing blades of grass wallpapers, very soothing to the soul when I turn on my phone.
Also, don't let being 25 stop you from being a kid. Hopefully we're all kids at times.
I'm 50 myself and love live wallpaper! I seem to change it every few days.

Save your 'scene' before you switch. Yhen no matter what you can go back to old setup

For those who feel they are too mature for live walls, check out substrate. I think you may change your mind.
Dl'd that on your suggestion day ago or so.... Damn it is.... well there's not really a way to explain it, It draws you in.......
If you have beautiful widgets, you need to download beautiful live wallpaper. It's pretty amazing. The background is what ever the weather is outside, if its rainy then its raining on your screen, cloudy then clouds on your screen. It's cool.

Sounds like the sense weather widget, cept it ends after a few seconds. Which is fine by me. Not a huge fan of live's but will F w/ them ever once and a while

I like live wallpapers. I change it around a lot, I use starfield a lot, but occasionally another one when I'm bored (water, grass, flying toast [that brings one me back], Droid X eye, Nexus Mod (well some variant on Nexus, not sure which one) ). I can a test that most of these have no significant battery drain.
And also really like being able to use maps live wallpaper. That can be very useful if your trying to get around somewhere unfamiliar (or are just board in the car, and not driving).
Does anyone have a weather wallpaper that you'd recommend (preferably free )? Or anything else that's actually useful?

I did this and turned of moblie/3g when not using 3g and it made my battery go from lasting 6 hrs to over 24 hrs.
quick question. when u say you turn off 3g is that in the wireless settings where it says mobile internet? I made use a widget for that and wireless and usually keep it off unless I am using it and my battery life is a lot better. The first night i had my dinc I went to bed and it had 80%. Left the wifi on and woke up next morning with a dead battery i was like wooow that sucks but i just leave it off now. Sorry to rant off topic btw..
But I do use the nexus live wallpaper on the dinc
I started using it again after getting the 1500mah tp2 battery. I use the 'galactic core' wallpaper available in the app market. Way better than the htc galaxy wallpaper available by default
I really like Live Wallpaper. I'm old-ish and I still use 'em. Maybe it's because I'm still wowed by smart phones because of the bricks I used to use in my youth
Anyway, I've always wondered if the ones that are bundled with Sense (or any Android phone for that matter) are better optimized than the ones you install from the market because they're tied up properly with all the system files? It could just be good vs bad programing of course.
I like Seeds of Life, and I like Nexus Revamped PRO with all its cool options. I try a lot of the different live wallpapers from the Market, but admittedly, only a handful stay installed. I still really like the plain black and white option (and some of the other colors) from Magic Smoke. It never bogs down the phone either.

I assumed it's just good v. bad programming. Maybe a little optimization going on, but very little benefit from that.
I've installed quite a few but I don't really see the point. They're "fun" and all but the lag it causes, no matter how big or small, isn't worth the occasional visual stimulation.
