If the specs on this phone turn out to be true, then this will be my next phone.
Tegra 3 quad core, ics, 720p display (hopefully lcd so I can read it in sunlight), sense and 8mp camera. Seems like some one read my Christmas wish list :-)
Only thing not so keen on is the size 4.7" seems on the large size for my hands, but hay can't have everything...
Who is going to wait for this over galaxy nexus, I sure am...

Ya I agree this phone is going to be great. My NE2 is not until 12/28 so I hope it comes out soon.
The 4.7 size I can probably deal with seeing how it's a super computer in my pocket. I just hope the battery life is decent. Maybe not good just needs to be decent.

Regarding battery, I hope the 5th core of the processor will help due to it running background tasks at a lower clock speed. Guess we will know more about this processor when the asus transformer 2 is released.
Sounds like a great contender phone though.
I will be happy if htc put a decent amount of space for apps, make the sound / speaker decent.
Looking forward to more details on this phone.

From what I read it is supposed to be released with gb not ICS. Sounds like a beast but most of those cores will be wasted since ICS and most apps are not optimized for quad core

I'm under the impression that ICS is optimized for multiple cores..

Really hope it has a micro sd card slot. I am not liking the trend with the sensation XL and nexus of omitting micor sd card slots Thought I really don't expect this phone to be out for a while (that is if the rumour is true). Based on past history of time from leak to release I would put this phone at a Q2 2012 release. Hope it comes out earlier as this is the top of my list right now.

You may be surprised. I had a look at the sensation XL this weekend. Really liked the size. It is not that much bigger than the sensation (though that may be too big anyway).

This phone is a beast. Half tempted to forget the Galaxy Nexus and wait for more details on this guy.
Though, I'm not sure I care for Sense..
+1 on that. To be honest I was all over the Nexus no matter what, but I'm having second thoughts. I know something new is always around the corner but this is truly a game changer if true. Only two things holding me back is 1)I dont want to wait another ~3 months. 2) Definitely not a huge fan of HTC.
Also about the quad core talking going on above- the software has not caught up to this YET..but its really only a matter of time until developers make use of all four cores (although most will describe this as very unnecessary), Moore's Law speaks for itself .

Most apps aren't optimized for quad core because there are no quad cores out there yet. However, as someone above mentioned, nvidia will most likely have a few quad-core games or apps available at launch.
Also, if you think about it, those that bought the Motorola Atrix when it launched and are locked into a 2 year contract are pretty much good until their contract is up. So, even though you may think that grabbing this phone would seem pointless since no apps are optimized for it yet, it would be in a way "future proof". Not to mention, that this many cores along with the amount of cores on the GPU are on par if not better than the Sony Vita.

HTC is THE BEST android manufacturer. All of its devices are high end quality. The hardware is amazing + the software of HTC Sense. Agree or disagree, this is the truth.
Also, the rumors for the Edge is that it will have HSPA+ which means Verizon wouldn't be a candidate, but rather T-Mobile or AT&T. Unless another rumor mentions LTE or CDMA capabilities, it doesn't look like it'll go to Verizon or Sprint.

4.7" 720p HD SLCD 2 display apparently. Like HTC, but not their SLCD displays. However the sensation XL display is a massive improvement. If SLCD 2 is as good as this contrast wise I will be happy. How this screen drains the battery is a big question.

I'm very interested as well. I was looking at the Rezound but I'm holding out for now. I'm waiting to do my upgrade around March/April. I will be keeping my eye on The Edge.

Has anybody heard about "Zeta"?
I've been reading about the Zeta for the last hour. If it is a real device to come, it sure has very goods specs about it. Hopefully it comes to VZW.

The Zeta looks massively like a fake. Looks alone makes me think this isn't really an HTC phone. Specs are way too futuristic. Very good attempt, but I call fake. HTC edge is more likely

if I'm not mistaken HTC will be launching 3 quad core devices next year Q2 more than likely just like the Edge, they will all be using Tegra 3 and more than likely run on HTC sense 4.0
...nice to see someone is happy about the edge :-)

Well. This is my new bandwagon phone. Here's hoping it arrives on Verizon and here's hoping that its to my likings. Loved the nexus but there were some nuances with the phone that turned me off. 4.7" screen? Yes, please. Will probably wind up being smaller than the nexus too, even with capacitive buttons.
This phone looks sweet at first glance, but it sure is big. What is up with all the big screen phones coming out? Am I the only person who keeps their phone in their pocket?

Not sure how a single spec - megapixels - translates to all specs; that is quite the unsubstantiated inference.
Exactly!
But on-topic... check out this site for visual comparisons between many different phones. They don't seem to have the Edge yet, but they do have the Galaxy Note which is another huge phone. I could definitely handle that, would be great for most of the stuff I actually use my phone for.

Should be under 5.3 inches. Not big at all. Unless you wear low knit pocket jeans/khakis. I could see this being an issue. Personally, a big screen is a plus.
I'm also tempted to hold on for this. I've been due an upgrade since October, so it won't hurt to wait a little bit longer in order to ensure I get the latest technology.

I really hope sprint releases this phone. And it better have a micro sd card slot a removable battery. And LTE. And if motorola can get their hands on super amoled like the razr why not HTC? So i hope it has a super amoled hd screen. Oh and ICS. that's my dream phone.
Currently using the Dinc but do for my upgrade in a few weeks. Thinking I will try and hold out for this is the specs continue to look as good. Hopefully it comes out sooner rather than later 'cause I'm anxious to upgrade... As others said, though, really hoping the battery life and handle all this power.
this phone will have a lot of competition: samsung galaxy S3 to start of with, i dont know how it will compare ? If the edge will be killed or do the killing ?

It will be a great phone. Either way its not going to win by a lot or lose by a lot. Preference, really.
Here is to hoping htc edge makes it to Sprint w/5in screen and kickstand. Would be.a awesome EVO2. Those worried about 5 incher screen look how small the SGN is in hand w/5.3in screen.
Puhleeezzee come to Verizon!! Been holding on to my Incredible for too long now! I passed up the Nexus, Razr and Rezound... I can't hold out much longer! I've decided to pounce on the next VZW phone that meets the following criteria:
1) Made by HTC
2) 4" - 5" screen size
3) Quad-core CPU
4) ICS
5) Sense 4.0.
Hope this is the one!

I'm with you Montana Man. I ALMOST bought the Rezound but figured I could wait and see what HTC pulls out at the MWC. I'm circling April 2012 for my new phone! Rezound is very nice but I think this next round of releases will really show us something special.
If you can wait, something based on the ARM A15(discussed here and here) will offer some major kicka$$ performance. They're claiming an almost doubling of performance per core per MHz, and MHz will scale to 2 or 2.5GHz. Yowza! Unfortunately won't be out by April though.

The HTC Edge is rumored to be the first quad-core Android smartphone, not only by HTC but from any manufacturer. It'll have a Tegra 3 chipset inside by NVIDIA alongside 1GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel HD camera with flash, front-facing camera, a 4.7... Read More
