I think I'll wait and get it from Sprint. I have an oddball update that they gave me for complaining about the new Premiere system, plus I need to arrange an employer discount type deal.

Also, did you go through a Sprint corporate store, or a 3rd party retailer? in my experiences, 3rd party retailers have crap for service, but the Sprint corporate stores have been outstanding.

Really? I'm gonna have to go check that out around here. =] Much more comfortable getting my phone through Sprint than BB-- especially since I'm switching service just for this guy.

Confirmed.

Sprint's pre-order is just more "secret" than Best Buy's

Default BB preorder

Hi im new to this community..
I also preorder from BB in may 2nd and i was the first in my local BB also, but its going to be my first time with BB because i been a sprint customer for 5 years and i been without a contract since august 2010 waiting for a good phone to sign contract again, but my question is, Will BB give me the discounts that sprint is offering me? if not any of you guys know what to do if i dont want the preorder anymore? i know that i have to ask this to BB but just wondering if any of you ever had to cancel a preorder before..

Should be no issue in picking up on launch day. Unlike last year, there is much more competition in the high end phones (e.g. S II, Sensation, G2X, Bionic, LG 3D) with 4G capabilities.

I'm just debating whether to unload my Evo 4G on eBay now. I am afraid if I wait a month or two everyone else will be selling as well to get new phones.

If you are speaking of the contract renewal pricing, then yes, BestBuy will be able to give you the discounted price on the phone.

I will go to our corporate sprint store today and see if I can preorder there. I guess some people say they were able to.

I pre-ordered mine at Best Buy last week, a day after it was announced they would start taking secret pre-orders. There are a few advantages to pre-ordering rather then just waiting for the phone to be released. First and foremost, when you pre-order, depending where you are on the list (I am #1 on the list at my local Best Buy), you are guaranteed to get an Evo3D. Judging by how the original Evo4G was sold out with every shipment for well over 6 months, pre-ordering may very well be the only way to get the phone without waiting for several months.

When you pre-order from BB, you spend $50, and you get a $50 gift card to use on that phone, or any thing else at the store. So if the device comes out and you decide after playing with the demo you don't like it, you don't need to buy it. But if you do decide you want it, you at least have one reserved for you.

A major plus about buying from Best Buy is not only will they match anyone's price, they also give you any rebates instantly (Sprint is doing this also for a limited time), and if you decide to return the device to Best Buy within the 30 days you don't have to pay ANY restocking fee.

Sprint charges a $35 restocking fee for any returns, and isn't as easy to work with in terms of price matching a competitors best advertised price.

Currently BB's out of contract Thunderbolt's price is $699, however the out of contract price through Verizon is 549. So, are you saying that BB would match Verizon's price of 549?

Based on the TB price gouge, I think BB's out of contract price for the EVO will be higher than Sprints. Sprint says I qualify for a $75 discount (just bought EVO last spring) So, I suspect with BB it would only be 75 off the price gouge, Whereas Sprints full price would already be around 100+ less than BB...

According to my girlfriend (co-manager at the local BB), they will pricematch the off contract price.

Some conditions:
1. The Sprint store needs to be local, and they need to have the product in stock at the time of the price match. (officially, anyway - if a ton of people do this on launch day, they will likely start attempting to check stock of the phones at the local sprint.)
2. Once you apply Sprint discounts, it is no longer an off contract price that they are matching. If Sprint is giving you $75 towards a new phone, and if the new phone at BB is $699 off contract, you will be sold the phone for $699-$75. - they may give it to you price matched at $450 (if that is the sprint price) minus the $75, but they aren't officially supposed to.

I called my sprint store and dude said they weren't takikng preorders. Whatever. I went to best buy and placed my preorder with them

Is anyone thinking about doing the BB buyback? for $60 you get half the retail price when you trade it in! I'm eligible for an upgrade every year! So if I pay and extra $60 now next year I can get $300 toward the purchase of my new phone! (if retail on 3d is 599, it could be 600 which would make my buy back be worth 350!)

This all sounds more like: If you commit to a $50 gift card, we'll put your name on a piece of paper and commit to calling to you when stock comes in.

They could do that without the $50 gift card. Either way, they've made no legal obligation to you.

I don't see how that's a pre-order, but as I say, I've never pre-ordered a phone.

(I had them put me on the Evo list last year and that was free - first ones in, in response to the calls, got stock as it arrived - not necessarily as on the list, by entry date.)

I dunno. I'll shut up.
I fully agree and the sad part is everyone that's "pre-ordering" think they will be guaranteed to get a phone on release day. There were a lot of people who pre-ordered through BB and RS that got the shaft last year when the evo came out and ended up not getting their phone until july. The only thing a pre-order guarantees is that you will be parting ways with your $50 with nothing else to show for it. You are better off just walking in to any sprint store that day and picking it up.

Edit: Like my grandmother use to tell me when I was a little boy "A promise is a comfort to a fool"

No, I wouldn't deem it as an obligation to provide me with the product. But since they setup the actual wait list in their system and it generated a confirm number, I believe they will comply with holding the product aside for the customer for say - 24 hours or so. While there's no legal obligation to give the product to me rather than first come first serve (as the 50 gift card was the actual sale at the transaction time) I don't believe they want to piss off current customers. It's a matter of goodwill . However I could be wrong about this and may be a good thing I actually have a backup "confirm" as I might need it. Even then I could totally miss scoring one on launch day if neither retailer followed through.

Wasn't the BB failure last year due to the fact that they did not receive as many handsets as anticipated and those further down on the list lost out? Or was it just random and BB totally sold handsets on a first come first serve basis?

I am not sure what the deal was but there were several issues and stock was definitely one of them. Also though, I know of one of my buddies that were on the list to receive his phones(he ordered two) on second shipment but knew someone at the best buy and actually got his the day of release therefore pushing everyone on the list back two spaces. So there are to many things that can go wrong versus just walking in to sprint on release day.

When I did my pre-order at BB, the rep said they were honoring them in order of registration. He also said they would hold that phone for up to two weeks after they get it in stock. I have a receipt showing me as customer 003 and I was the third on that electronic pre-order list.

It seems like you would never preorder a phone then. Or at least by the time your preorder requirements were filled, doing so wouldn't be of much use. Either way, the "preorders" that BB and Sprint are doing are just purchasing gift cards to get on a waitlist. It's not like you lose much having a $50 BB gift card that you can use on anything.

It's just my opinion, but I guess I'd rather know that I can get it first day and then back out if I don't like it than to not be able to get it day one if I really do end up liking it a lot.

Is there a spot that says you're customer 003 printed on the receipt, or is it hand written, or just what? I took a quick glance at mine and didn't see anything that jumped out as saying which registrant I was, so I was just curious.

Thats a valid point about it just being a $50 BB gift card, that actually isnt too bad (except BB's prices stink overall, IMO). But to expand on what I was thinking, for example... If the GalaxyS2 were to go on preorder somewhere in the states, itd be different to me. Its been reviewed half a dozen times already because its actually out there somewhere. If the evo3d gets released in Europe (or their version of it, I should say) before the US and it gets great initial reviews, I'm all in favor. Unfortunately for me and the rest of us that are interested, an early version of this thing was unveiled at a few trade shows then hidden away for months so I'm wary.

But yeah, truth be told I'm overly cautious about this stuff. I always try to keep the same phone for the contract duration, so its a big commitment. The only things I ever preorder are sequels to video games that I know I will like, so theres no risk involved. And 99% of that is for the $20 amazon gift cards that come with em. Cha-ching!

If all else fails, remember you do have a time on your receipt, so that helps in figuring out who came in when.

It is on the receipt itself. There is a portion that reads as follows:
1815126 PRESALE SKU
PRESALE SKU BBM 003

It is just above the SUBTOTAL 50.00 price.

Mine says exactly the same thing, so perhaps I was the third person on the list at mine as well (wish I would have asked, didn't think about it at all.)

complete coincidence.

the best buy store i pre ordered from started the pre order sale that morning. i was there an hour after opening. the guy i did the pre order with stated i was first to preorder the 3D there. that particular store did not launch the pre order process until that morning. i think that is just a internal thing with the SKU system..

someone who is employed at BBY should comment on this...

BBM 003 sounds like "best buy mobile: phone 003" to me.

BBM 003 sounds like "best buy mobile: phone number 003" to me... the Evo3D is assigned a number 003. It's not your order in line.

Well, damn it. From my angle, I did see my name as third in the system when he was finished. I think it is time to pay the store a visit and see if some random rep can confirm my position without my giving them my place in line.

Ha, it happens. I may go in and see if I can find out the same...assuming I'm pretty high, since I went just after noon on the first day.

Yeah. And the thing is, before I even got rolling on it, he told me two others had signed up. It all seemed to match perfectly. Heh, not so much now.

Tried to preorder it last night from my local best buy and the guy had no information on an Evo 3D preorder in his little booklet then tried to find it in the computer with no luck.

Actually, when you pre-order you aren't guaranteed to get it first thing it's released. You are guaranteed to receive the device based on your position on the pre-order list, based on stock. So if they only get 2 phones and you're #3, you're going to have to wait until their next shipment. Note that larger stores that do more sales volume in mobile sales will likely get more devices then a smaller store. Pretty much every store will get 1 device likely, meaning if you're #1 then they reserve the first device they get in stock for you to pickup.

And the $50 is a gift card you get from BB, which can always be returned for a full refund. At the end of the day, if you end up being able to get it faster somewhere else you can always do that then get a refund on your pre-order at BB.

Plus, your assumption that you can simply walk into a Sprint store on opening day and waltz out with an Evo3D like that seems overly simplistic rather then realistic. In all actuality, there will be people obsessed with this phone that will be waiting in droves outside the store before it even opens, and if you've ever bought anything in a Sprint store I'm sure you know that it takes them forever to get through even 4 transactions. Since they appear to be taking pre-orders now as well, those customers will get their devices sooner then people off the street who walk in.

I think regardless where you want to get your phone from, it all is going to hinge on supply & demand. If Sprint/HTC underestimate demand for this device and the supply is limited, you'll be lucky to get one on opening day no matter whether you pre-ordered it or not. All indications are however, that since pre-ordering means they reserve a phone for you, then anyone off the street won't be able to get one until AFTER all pre-order customers have their devices first. This would go for Sprint stores (since they also appear to be taking pre-orders) as well as BB.

Walking in to a sprint store on release day still seems like the best thing to do if you really wanted one. There is also the shack, looks like they are jumping on the preorder bandwagon.

Looks like Sprint is really missing out on the pre-order boat. After some dliberation I decided to place my pre-order with Bestbuy. Worst case scenario I use the gift card to buy something else.

When I placed my order, he said they hadn't taken any preorders for it yet, so presumably I'm first. I asked what that meant, and he said that my number is the first they'll call when they get their allotment in on release day. I'll have 24 hours to come get it or call back and they'll hold. If I choose not to get it, I have $50 to spend at BB!
I asked how many come in an allotment, and he said they generally come in boxes of 5.

Heh. Sorry, this should probably be in the BB thread, not RS.

That, or you could do a return and get your money back all together.
