I have NO problem with my Yahoo accounts at all. You must go and set up an new account and when you do, go to MANUAL Setup and take off the IMAP setting, then change the incoming and outgoing settings as such...

Yahoo Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 465)

Yahoo Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 995)

If you have a PLUS account you can use these...

Yahoo Plus Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 995)

Yahoo Plus Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (SSL enabled, port 465, use authentication)

Try those settings and see how it goes.

Tried this too and no go. Crazy. It worked fine on my evo. Wonder what the malfunction is.

Crazy is now mine is not working either... lmao! RATS!!!

I looked and the settings somehow reverted to IMAP, I attempted to change them back and I'm getting authorization errors now. Hmmmm, wondering if they're doing something on the Yahoo side? Anyways...

You COULD use your Gmail account to FETCH the yahoo mail and bring it into the Gmail account. I never used this feature but I do know you CAN do this. Search here for some threads on that subject (Phandroid) if you want to try that. For me it's ok, I have nothing critical on the Yahoo account.

UPDATE...

Ok, its working again... on the E3D just use NEW account function (Yahoo Mail) and it works again.

Was trying all sorts of configs that were failing, maddening... lol, it had to be THEM!

i also agree it may be how one's email settings are set up online...
I was a little surprised by HTC'c response as well. I agree with your later post that the info I got from HTC may not hold much water. I made the call to HTC on a Sunday afternoon. I'm sure their most knowledgeable tech's were not the one's answering the phone at that time.

Personally for me I check 2 yahoo accounts, 1 exchange account, and 1 POP3 account. I know to some that seems a little cumbersome but it is the way I work. It is the result of being self employed and needing to check email accounts for a few of my clients. I want to be able to check these all in the same app. Call me stubborn but that is what works best for me. Don't take this the wrong way but I can do it on my iPhone.

All that being said. I really want to make the move to android and away from AT&T. Is there any other app out there that someone can recommend to check multiple email accounts including exchange and yahoo in the same client? Someone over on the sprint forum suggested using K-9. Anyone have any experience with K-9 as an email client?

TIA,
Matt

UPDATE: I tried K-9. Good news: It works with both my yahoo accounts. Bad news: it does not work with active sync which is what I need for the exchange account on a third party exchange host.

Ok I deleted my Yahoo account and re added it. I just opened up my mail and i had no circle with numbers but mail form this morning was all there nothing was bold like unread and I had just woke up and hadn't even read my mail yet. I then relaized a while back I set up my Incredimail (similar to outlook) on my main computer to have my yahoo download there. But it was like that when Yahoo was working on my EVO 4G. And I used to have to still go to Yahoo and delete all my mail even though it came through my Incredimail but here lately it's not there for me to delete. So maybe it's a setting that got messed up I am not sure. I just went to Yahoo and usually I would go there every 2 or 3 days and delete lots of old mail I had already read on Incredimail. And today nothing was there but morning mail. I may try to delete the account from Incredimail and see if that makes a difference. But I just sent me a test and I opened up yahoo and it said 3/3 and they downloaded but I want them to be bold for unread till I click on them but maybe since they download to my incredimail 1st that is why? I don't know..

If you're having problems, I highly recommend using K-9 Mail (free, open-source app in the market). I've been using it for IMAP on my Yahoo account since my G1 and I still use it today on my 3VO. It supports multiple accounts, color-coded accounts, unified inbox, etc. And, as of a few months ago, it will save downloaded email on your SD card.

One other thing to note: if you're not a Yahoo "Plus" user (meaning you were given "Plus" by your ISP or your paid Yahoo), as far as I know, IMAP will not work and you have to use POP3, unfortunately. This would completely explain the scenario where you can use SMTP, but not IMAP.

Well my Yahoo is working now. I figured it out! I just needed to close out my Incredimail completely and not let the mail download to it 1st. Cause once I close it out I now see a circle with a 2 and my emails are bold like they should be for not reading them. So I need to remember to close out my Incredimail when I leave my house I usually leave it open in my task bar and mail downloads to it. So I'm fixed now and am working even with the htc part in my settings.

I got a new forum email which I can read but the test message I just sent to myself from Incredimail all it said was test in the subject and body and when I opened it I got a message saying this mail is still on server. But I am sure that is a setting someone explained that to me somewhere in this thread above. But I am working now so that is all that matters.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe POP3 will presents other issues for those who check the account in multiple places. For example, If you reply to an email from the phone it will not be in sent items in the webmail client. Deleting messages via the phone will not remove them from the server. My Yahoo accounts are working as IMAP in K9 without issue so far. I am not a Yahoo Plus user.

Using K-9 I was able to authenticate and retrieve my Yahoo mail using the IMAP settings. As a free account user they're rejecting my POP queries, even to the servers posted on page 1 for free users. Using the same settings in the stock mail app I can authenticate, but can't actually retrieve any mail.

Unfortunately my workplace just upgraded to Exchange 2010 and K-9 isn't playing nicely with that. Thus I'm left using multiple mail apps.

Contacted HTC and Yahoo, waiting to hear back from both of them. It has to be something on one of their ends, or a bug in the app.

EDIT: Yahoo has apparently escalated my ticket, hopefully more will come of it!

You're absolutely right (which is why I said "unfortunately"). I hate POP3! ha.

AS for IMAP on a non-Plus account, that's great! I had no idea Yahoo opened that up. Back in my day (wink), that wasn't permitted. Actually (thinking out loud) it MAY be that Yahoo only permits it for non-plus accounts over a carrier connection (i.e. Sprint) and that it won't work for non-Plus users over WiFi. I seem to remember them trying that out as a compromise to not allowing IMAP at all. Do you know if I'm right or if I'm full of it?

Thanks!

Pretty sure they allow both. Coming from an iPhone I could use Yahoo! IMAP on edge/3g and wireless at home and work. Never had any problems. On the Evo3D I have the same issue regardless with the same symptoms. Thinking it's just open altogether.

Now POP I know is at least somewhat restricted to Plus users. There's another FAQ about that if you dig in the help section of your inbox.

Yahoo posted some limited info at Yahoo! Mail for Android.

LOL. I suspect our days are not that far apart. I'm no POP3 fan either. I always thought that Yahoo had locked down both IMAP and POP3 unless you were a plus account. I assumed this was an effort to keep people from using a POP3 client to check the account and avoid all the marketing. I guess they had to open IMAP to some extent to work with mobile devices. It doesn't seem to make a difference if it is over WiFi or 3G. I actually tried the one account on a buddies EVO 4G lat night. Same result. No workie. His yahoo account works just fine on his phone and has for almost a year.

I am starting to wonder if yahoo maybe classes the free accounts as business or personal. The account that works for me is pretty obviously for personal use. It would be just as easy to determine that the account that has the issue is more business use. Both of these account are pretty old. One I set up for my business when I first got started and Yahoo was the best free alternative with a web mail interface. Perhaps they let the "personal" through and not the "business" accounts. Just grasping at straws here.

I don't think this is limited to the EVO 3D there is a thread in the EVO 4G and Hero forums about yahoo mail not working.

Hmmm. I understood POP for Yahoo requried their paid service.

My settings -
IMAP protocol
htc.imap.mail.yahoo.com(incoming)
htc.smtp.mail.yahoo.com(outgoing)
SSL on both, default ports
email=username=yours@yahoo.com

Just selected Yahoo! mail in HTC client, nothing fancy. No issues.

My communications with HTC.

Me:
I have a new HTC EVO 3D. I can not get my yahoo email account to work. It just says "No Mail". I have a second yahoo email account that works just fine. My wife and I both have the EVO 3D. This account does the same thing on either phone.

HTC:
I understand the importance of being able to use your Yahoo email account on your HTC EVO 3D. I will be more than happy to assist you with this. Yahoo's mail service and Android are not fully compatible with each other. Due to this, Yahoo has made an application specifically for Android to bypass these problems. You can find the application on the Android Market by searching Yahoo. I do apologize for any inconvenience.

Me:
Unfortunately the Yahoo app is not an acceptable solution to me. I check 4 email accounts. Two are yahoo, one exchange, and one POP3. I am self employed and these accounts are how I run my business. One of the yahoo accounts works just fine. The other does not. My wife and I are both trying to make the move from AT&T and the iPhone to Sprint with an android phone. Having to use multiple applications to check my email accounts is a deal breaker. Is this something HTC and Yahoo are actively seeking to fix? Is this an issue with all android phones or just with HTC and yahoo?

HTC:
Thank you for your response. This is a compatibility issue between the Android Operating System and Yahoo's servers. As for a fix, the one that was developed was the application that Yahoo put on the Android Market. Unfortunately, we do not have any alternative to this to make the device compatible with Android. I do apologize for any inconvenience.

As a side note. I went into a verizon store and set the same account up on a Motorola Droid X2. Initially it was the same issue, "No Mail". The salesperson changed a setting and all my messages showed up. She said she turned on push but I can not find a setting for push on the EVO 3D.

I have tried all the things all of you try. Either it can't connect to the server for some reason or if it does connect there is still no mail. I hate that damn yahoo app. I am sure they blocked us from using the native application just to force us to use their damn app. Many have to find the time to change all my crap to my gmail account but damn I am old and have had that account since yahoo cam out with email. This blows!

Yahoo mail HTC app worked fine until today at mid day. Tried to reboot, delete and re-install. I think it's a Yahoo / HTC error that we cannot control. Give it a day?
More-
Next day, and it's not working anymore. I'm importing yahoo to gmail, and syncing another gmail account to my phone. Another reason to leave yahoo entirely.

OK this blows harder than it thought. I wrote htc today about this yahoo crap and they wrote a back and told me it is yahoo an they want you to use their applications. I don't have Internet at home so all is use is my phone. I would copy and paste their message for everyone to read but that piece of shit app won't let you copy and paste. I am now really irritated with this. OK i am Pissed. Damn yahoo!

Dear Aaron,

I understand you are unable to access Yahoo email on your EVO 3D. I know this can be very frustrating. Recently Yahoo made some changes where there IMAP servers will no longer work and you have to set up the email using a POP account. Also, the only Yahoo accounts that will work with POP are the Yahoo Plus accounts. You can go to My phone has a mail application. How do I get my Yahoo! Mail messages in it? | Yahoo! Mobile Help for further information about this. Recently there was an application added to the Android Market so you can still use your Yahoo email. This should allow you to continue to use your Yahoo account. Please keep in mind that any applications from the Android Market are 3rd party content and we do not support these.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address.

Sincerely,

Lisa

Interesting. That is a little different than the reply I got. If you follow that link toward the bottom of the page there is a link to:
Yahoo! Mail for mobile

On that page there is an IMAP tab. on that IMAP tab there is a link for android specific IMAP settings.... yet those setting still do not work.

Seems like a whole bunch of finger pointing to me. :HeadScratch:

Not any more. It used to be you had to have there paid plus or whatever it was but now my Yahoo comes right through my Incredimail where all my pop accounts come.

Makes me wonder if the Sprint Proxy has anything to do with these issues, and why some people can get it to work, while other's can't.

proxy does not play a role. I have set it up with and without proxy changes EM posted in the streaming thread and i have not seen any difference one way or the other.

I think the HTC guy is right in that yahoo is phasing out the use of their servers with other mail apps and wanting others to use their own app. just my theory..

I agree with that...I noticed that problem on my evo when I unrooted it. The yahoo account seems to be added...but there is no mail.

When i check on the web browser I see new mail there. Sounds like its something on yahoos end.

Yahoo does (or at least did) allow imap access. But it's always been crappy. This caused all kinds of problems for Windows Phone 7 as yahoo's imap implementation is non-standard.

I've reverted to their android app but I'm not a fan of it. It auto-downloads images (allowing email marketers to track which emails I've read and slows the app down as well as using up bandwidth), I've also had problems with it sync'ing consistently and I find it a bit cumbersome to use.

Kinda the pits since I've been using yahoo mail since around 2000, but between the mobile issues and the fact that they don't have ssl for their web mail client... I'm about ready to abandon them.

Somebody needs to kick those guys in the tail.

Well Crap. Now K9 does not work with that account. It shows the mail through yesterday but nothing newer than that. If I delete that account and try to re add it I get a message saying it can not authorize.

Well, I've tossed out a few ideas in this thread, but don't think I've been very helpful. However, I can say this: it doesn't even make sense to say it's an incompatibility with the Andorid OS and Yahoo Mail. Whatever communication protocal we're talking about, POP3, IMAP, or something proprietary, it runs over TCP, which runs over IP. Android supports TCP and that's all it needs to do. After that, it's an incompatibility between a client app and the server (Yahoo). I don't know if this is because Yahoo is doing something non-standard or the stock mail client is doing something wrong, but the problem is certainly with one of the two. As I said earlier, for me, K9 Mail has worked perfectly with Yahoo Mail for a very long time (and I'm still using it today). Whatever my K9 Mail app is doing, in theory, the stock email app should be able to do.

Sorry for the rant, but that rep claiming that there was an incompatibility between Android OS and Yahoo Mail got my proverbial goat. ;-)

So weird! Am I just ultra lucky that mine still works?

[EDIT]
I'd just point out: if K9 is exhibiting the same symptoms for you, then that definitely points to it being a problem on Yahoo's end, and not a problem with HTC's software.

I submitted to yahoo mobile help yesterday. Still no response from them. Here is the latest response I received HTC: (This did not work for me)

Thank you for your response.

Yahoo placed the Yahoo Mail application on the Android Market as a resolution to this issue. You can try to setup your Yahoo Email account on the device using the following settings. When you go to Mail>More>New Account>Choose Yahoo>Enter your Email and Password>Select Manual Setup. You can try to set the account up using POP3 settings or IMAP. Here are both the Incoming and Outgoing servers that you can attempt to use for POP3 and IMAP.

Incoming - imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing - smtp.mobile.yahoo.com
or
Incoming - pop.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing - smtp.mail.yahoo.com

If the account will not setup properly on your device, the Yahoo Mail application is the only workaround we have for this issue. Within the Yahoo Mail Application, you can add multiple accounts by using the following steps.

1. Tap on the Yahoo Mail app.
2. Tap Accounts.
3. Then tap Manage.
4. Tap Add Account.
5. Enter the Username & Password for the second account.
6. Then tap Add.

I do not have any information at this time regarding any other fixes that may be released regarding Yahoo and Android. I do apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

I agree completely. I am going to try K9 again later today. The one thing I did is change my Yahoo password. After setting that account up on several different phone over the last couple of days I figured I better change it. I know I am using the correct password. Maybe it just has not propagated to the IMAP server yet. I'll report back later... If anyone is still interested that is.

It's weird now you have to check mark one email then go to menu select all. But all of a sudden my Yahoo quit working again. I sent a test to me and my friend and neither one of us got it. So I just deleted my account. I guess I'll get the Yahoo app too but everyone said it's a battery hog or it takes up lots of memory or something. But I guess it's better than going to the web. Or can you set it up as pop and have like yahoo forward to another account? Or is that a pain to do. Guess I'll just try the app.

Ok I will tell you how a got around this problem with a little background. I got a new HTC EVO 3D to replace my currect HTC EVO (which my mom is going to use, my mom has never used a smart phone). So I reset the phone, setup her yahoo mail and her inbox said no messages. So I then entered my yahoo email (under add account) into the phone and the HTC mail program worked fine (pulled in all my email). I created two new test email accounts at yahoo, one worked the other one didn't. I have two other HTC evo phones (I added my account to my daughters phone, everything worked fine, I added my mom account to her phone (same issue no email in the inbox). The issue is with the yahoo email account and not with any of the phones. On my HTC Evo 3d my yahoo account worked fine, on my moms account it still says "no messages" in the inbox. So this is my workaround and its kinda ugly but it works:

1. Create a google email (gmail) account (I used the same name my mom already had).
2. Use the import feature in google to transfer contacts and email from the yahoo account. (after you setup the gmail account you will get 3 new email messages in you inbox and 1 of them has a hyper link to start the process).
3. Under the import I select that when she uses the gmail account to sign her email with the yahoo account as the default.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
now it gets a little tricky hear.......
4. sign into yahoo mail and change your region to Yahoo asia
5. Select mail options and then POP (if your region says usa, yahoo will want to charge you 20 bucks a year to forward you mail, if you set your region up correctly it will let you forward you mail to your gmail account.
6. setup your new gmail account using HTC mail

you should get all your email in your inbox, you don't have to tell anyone your email address has changed, the only downfall is that use have to use gmail as your primary mail interface. I like that HTC mail tells you how many unread messages you have (its not the best solution, but it works).

I think I'm just going to bookmark my Yahoo mail page and call it good for now.

On their web mail, upper right, is a Mobile Mail link - enter your phone number, receive the SMS.

It gives two links. This one doesn't work: new.m.yahoo.com/mail but the first link (the one full of alphabet soup) does work.

Ideal? No.

Preferred? No.

Works for now? Yes.

Earlymon, I would do what I suggested (google account and then forward yahoo mail to this account). I like the HTC mail over the yahoo mail app. When you respond to email from google, it will still say it came from your yahoo account

I'm getting the app now I guess. My friend is using it. Well I decided to try yahoo mail mobile 1st I sent myself the link via text.

Yeah - I'm missing something, mail forward was the firs thing I looked for but on the Yahoo mail page, Options, Mail Options, POP & Forwarding, it says I need Yahoo! Plus to activate the features.

So - I got confused by the time I got to your instructions. Let's see if you can de-confuse me (my bad if you can't!) -

OK - you're saying to get _another_ gmail account specifically to match the forwarding on the Yahoo account? (Luckily for me, my gmail name != my yahoo name.)

Set Yahoo mail region on existing account to Asia?

And when you reply to a message, it comes from the forwarded new Gmail account, right?

Rose4uKy - If you are trying my instructions setup your gmail account on your phone using the imap settings. Everything from your yahoo account will be forwarded to it once you setup POP & Forwarding.

Earlmon - So when you change your yahoo region to "Asia" you no longer have to be Yahoo plus member to do POP & forwarding (don't ask me why, I didn't figure it out but it works....) use web link below, and change region to "Asia" and then go back to mail options and then "pop forwarding" and forward your yahoo mail to your gmail account
How do I change my country region in Yahoo? - Yahoo! Answers NZ

when you reply to an email (via gmail) you have the option under your "import setting" to use your name@gmail.com or your name@yahoo.com. Its your choice, the benifit is that you don't have to tell your friends your email address has changed.

Keep asking more questions, I will try to explain more if needed.

I really recommend people use the Yahoo Mail App for Yahoo. I ditched the hTC mail app long long ago. I currently use yahoo for my junk mail and my gmail for everything else. No problems with the Yahoo Mail app at all.

if you want gmail to grab your pop mail, you can do that in the google account on the computer. i have been forwarding my yahoo mail to gmail for years now as well as my personal pops. you do that from gmail. you dont need yahoo plus...

I like the HTC mail (unread message count), I know it stupid but its something I like. I agree if yahoo app has a nicer interface, but the uread message count was more important to me.....versus the yahoo app interface. JMO

If you set your language to yahoo asia, you don't have to pay for "pop forwarding" in yahoo.

Default Finger pointing has begun

Is it HTC's or Yahoo's problem. Something just doesn't add up. This is not related to the EVO, but us Incredible 2 users are having the same issue.

I just confirmed this problem with Verizon data support and they said it is a wide spread issue with Yahoo and not just HTC related. Apparently this is causing issues across various Android phones as well as some authentication issues with iPhones.

Support mentioned they are getting hammered with calls about this right now. Had no estimate of when it would be fixed.

My yahoo account is working again in K9. Guess it was a propagation issue with the password. Still not a good solutions for me as K9 is not working with activesync for my exchange account and as far as I can tell it does not display new messages count on the icon.

This is my first android phone. Can someone verify this is a new issue or is this something that has been on going for quite some time. If it is a new issue I am confident it will be resolved. If it is an issue that has been around for several months I am going to look at a different platform. Worst case Ive got 30 days to wait for a resolution before my no cost return option runs out with Sprint.

its yahoo problem, my email works fine on 4 different HTC phones (3 evos and 1 evo 3d), the problem follows the user, its not a phone issue. I talked to a yahoo support person and all they had me do is check my imap settings, i replied back saying it didn't work and haven't heard anything for 3 days........I don't think they know what is going on.....I added two test accounts about 4 days ago, 1 worked on all the evo devices, the other account doesn't work on any of the evo devices.....
