Angry is there a fix for generic icons?

It's getting really old that every time I have to reboot my clean, factory reset 3vo (which is sometimes two or three times a day), I have to manually switch themes or backgrounds to get my icons to look correct instead of generic. What is the fix for this?

Move them back to the phone from the SD card. Why are you having to reboot your phone so often? I usually just reboot every few days.

There are 3 ways to fix this;

1) Move all apps on SD onto internal memory

2) Change your skin

3) Go into running services and Force Stop HTC Sense

I have 2 apps that these methods did not fix. The Weather Channel and Talking Gina Giraffe free. When I tried moving them back to internal memory I was told they did not exist. The talking Gina generic icon remained after I uninstalled the app

Apps and icons are supposed to be connected (by definition). Once you have the generic icon, a disconnect has happened. If the icon remains after uninstalling the app, you have to remove the icon manually - because it got disconnected.

This problem cropped up on HTC phones with the Froyo release last year and hits people in varying degrees. The new Gingerbread and Sense has really exacerbated things.

If doing a force stop on HTC Sense (that's OK - killing a process that's misbehaving is the exception to the task killing general rule) doesn't work or if you have other reasons you need to reboot, one member suggest this:

Simulates a reboot by closing/restarting all core and user processes and thus frees up memory. Your phone should be much snappier after using Fast Reboot.
DOES NOT ACTUALLY REBOOT YOUR PHONE, only the apps & processes. Does NOT require root.
I've not looked into it to see what that's actually doing but it may be worth experimenting with to see how it affects you if the other methods won't get you there.

PS - The Weather Channel tends to be a rather invasive app. I'm not knocking your choice or anything, just saying - I've never seen an app decide that it wants to take over like that one. Once, I was visiting Texas and some bad weather was coming - so I set it to notify me. And I couldn't turn it off, no matter what until I removed it. I'd be in California and still be getting Texas weather notifications as part of my local weather alerts. I'm not defending how Sense is messing up here - just saying that some apps aren't perfect and they conspire with Sense to make things worse, in my opinion.

I decided not to reinstall The Weather Channel app anyway since Sense has weather right under the clock. I'll grab Fast Reboot for future use

Default Shortcut Icon changes

In the last week or so, icons for shortcuts on the home screen have changed from their original look to a generic Android icon. I have tried, reboot, battery pull, re-sitting the SD card.

These apps reside on the SD memory card. Anyone else have the problem?

This is a bug with HTC Sense. It has been reported many times in this forum.

- U can either move the apps to the internal memory
- Change the Skin
- go into running programs and force stop HTC Sense

Those are the 3 options on how to fix the problem until HTC fixes it

I was just getting ready to search for this! I have had the same problem since I picked up the phone a month ago. It makes "Sense" (pun intended....I know Boo Boo) Mine happens on EVERY reboot and it's just with certain apps not all of them.

Thank you

Charles

Everytime I read a thread about this problem it perplexes me. Most of my apps are on my sd card too & when I reboot I do get the generic android icon but after my widgets load I have my regular icons back as well as my custom icons. I definitely not complaining, just wondering why it seemsmore people than not are having this problem

How do you force stop HTC Sense?

Do I just go to running applications and stop the HTC Sense program? I tried it and it didn't do anything to my icons.

Just get Fast Reboot it restores the icons and its quick

Quickly "reboot" your phone to free up memory! Does NOT require root!
TRY THE PRO VERSION, WHICH COMES WITH THE OPTION TO AUTOMATICALLY PERFORM FAST REBOOTS AND LETS YOU MANUALLY EXCLUDE APPS!
Simulates a reboot by closing/restarting all core and user processes and thus frees up memory. Your phone should be much snappier after using Fast Reboot.
DOES NOT ACTUALLY REBOOT YOUR PHONE, only the apps & processes. Does NOT require root.

If you install today's update, this issue is fixed. No more generic Android icons upon reboot! Woohoo!

Edit: But the usual precaution applies - if you are rooted, don't install any OTA updates. Wait for a ROM to be available that you can install while being rooted.

I'm not rooted yet, so can't say for sure. But the usual precaution applies - if you are rooted, don't install any OTA updates. Wait for a ROM to be available that you can install while being rooted. (added to my previous post)

Today's updated apparently updates the HBOOT version so that it can't be unlocked using revolutionary (yet). But I don't know what it will do to your unlock status if you are already unlocked.
You might want to read OTA update to 2.08.651.2 available for HTC EVO 3D now [Updated]
