Default Icon Bug on Apps2SD - Solution in Post #47 here

Ok so i downloaded a bunch of apps. I used apps2sd to move the moveable ones to the SD card.

Did a phone restart and now any app that is on the SD card NO icon will appear on the home screen. Its just the generic Android Icon. The app still works just no icon.

I then moved the app back to phone storage and restarted and the app icon is back

This is a pretty big bug. Anyone else have any input?

If this was posted already i am sorry and you can move the post.

I'm not having that problem. I moved a few apps to the sd card although I won't be doing that in the future. There is a gig of ram on the phone reserved for apps.

so the apps you have on the SD card, their Icons are showing up on the home screen? Not the generic Android Icon?

Its not a bug, its the app itself. Its like some of my apps that have widgets, if I move the app to the sd card the app itself works but the widget doesn't but if the app is on the phones internal memory then the widget works just fine. I have had similar issues with the OG evo like what you are saying, so its the app itself and not a bug I would say.

Yes my icons are showing correctly for the items I put on the SD. I think muffinman got your answer though.

For all of you that still have the icons after you installed them on the SD card, Have you powered your phones on and off yet?

I had all the icons too until I powered the phone on and off and restarted the phone. Then the icons went missing.

I know its not the apps because the same apps worked fine on my Evo 4g while they were on the SD card.

Trying to decide if I should do a hard reset or not

Does this happen to random apps, specific apps or all your apps on the sd card?

I have this same problem but.... Only with Apps from Amazon App Store and only after a full restart. Also I have a keyboard from Amazon Appstore SwiftKey that I have to reenable after a full restart.

This happens with any app that is on the SD card. As soon as they are back on the phone memory everything is fine.

I didnt nottice it until i did a restart of the phone. Once i did a restart the apps never showed back up.

There is atleast one other person on another forum i know is having the same problem. SO this seem to be a bug of some sort.

But... You guys say yours are working fine.. so it is a bit odd....

I wonder if this update to the Sense did something to the apps.

For the people it is working for, do you guys have the latest update? and did a full restart after the update?

thanks for the help.

i Might try reformatting the SD card before i do a hard reset

I have confirmed For me it is only Amazon AppStore apps that I moved to the SD card. Android Market Apps on the SD never lose the Icon, well at least on my screens.

On another forum they are saying a quick fix is to change to a different Skin and then the icon will be back.

I just tried it and it works

So this is definetly a minor bug with Sense

Default "Android" icons

Most of the apps I have downloaded have reverted to the "Android" icon that you see when you remove the SD card (looks similar to the market app icon). I haven't removed my SD card or done anything out of the ordinary. I went scuba diving and left it in the car; when I got back it was doing this.

EDIT: Going into the "all apps" screen shows you the normal icons, whicn you just need to drag to the screen you want and remove the old ones. Still curious as to why or how this happened though.

I've done all the updates, etc and
the three apps that keep doing it to me are:
Speed Test
WiFi Analyzer
and the HTC Flashlight App from the Evo 4G..

All three programs have been moved to the SD card....

Like a mosquitoes bite, it's annoying.

Ya, that seems to be the problem.

When I turn the phone off, it does not occur, but when I restart the phone I get the generic Android icon. These different ways they talk about as fixes work, but the bug is still pretty annoying.

Default app icons missing pics

About 1/2 of the app icons don't have their associated pics attached to them on my home screens. This happened after I let the phone run out of battery and shut itself down.

Upon restart I was missing the app icons pics only on my home pages. The apps worked fine launching from the home pages and the pics were good in the all app menu.

I could put the pics back on by removing them and them putting them back on but after I would restart my phone the pics would disappear and I would be left with only the generic android Icon.

I have tried to restart

pulled the battery

turned off fast boot

waited 45 minutes hoping it will automatically re-sync.

unmounted the sd card then remounted it

plugged it into the computer as a hard drive hoping to get the SD card re-sync.

P.S. I can't get it to restart from the shutdown menu all it does is shut down then I have to manually restart it.

seems the only course of action is to not move the apps to SD. perhaps a fix will be forthcoming...

This worked for me also. I hope it is something HTC fixes with a future patch.

It is weird how changing a skin would work - but it worked for me. Easier then having to re-create all the icons not working.

This is most definitely a bug, and has nothing to do with widget function. If on sd card many icons revert to default Android when rebooting the phone, but none installed in internal memory have this issue. Until a fix is delivered I've moved everything back to memory.

yes it is definetly a bug.

Many people on other forums also reporting the same thing.

Now I wonder if this happened when we got the update to Sense. Does anyone have a 3D that hasnt been updated yet? Maybe they can test this out and see what happens.

This happens to apps I put in a folder. Usually the correct icons show up in a day or two.

I'm in this boat with you guys as well. Never had this problem on my Nexus One when I kept all my apps on SD card. However, they will still launch the app so I know it's not broken.

Looks to be a Sense 3.0 problem. Does anyone have a Sensation? Would like to see if that phone does it also.

Yea, I'm in the same boat. Kinda annoying but the apps still function. The fix I've been using is to return a couple apps to the phone and then all is right. Hope HTC fixes this

Guys, for what it's worth, the exact same issue is happening on the Evo 4G after the upgrade to Gingerbread a few weeks ago, only it seems to happen when the icons have been placed inside of folders, not on the home pages directly. You'll find it documented on the Evo 4g forum. No solution has been found other than switch to a different scene and then switch back, but that is only temporary. If you reboot, it happens again.

I'm waiting for the unlock so I can get pure GB experience. Also want that new Google Video chat.

I only had widget issues when moving apps before but this is a little weird for the apps to just lose their picture but still work.

Same issue for me. I noticed it the first day I got it. It's fine until I restart or shut down and reboot. It appears to be apps I have moved to SD card. These are apps I have directly on my screens..not in folders.

I am happy this is not just my phone because I wasn't quite sure if it was the SD Card or the Phone.

I did do a hard reset just to see if that would change anything and it lasted about a day and then once I turned my phone off it went back to getting the generic Icons for all the apps I moved to the SD card.

I hope they fix this soon because one gig is not enough when you consider the spider man app takes almost 100 MB and Plant vs. Zombies is around 78 MB. It will only take a couple of those to reach 1 GB.

Has anyone contacted HTC about this?

I have to throw in my 2 cents: I have the same problem. I didn't move my apps at all but one in particular (glow hockey) has the generic android icon which it didn't use to have. Will try to hunt down a solution eventually.

I've been battling this problem for days now....finally gave in and moved all my apps back to internal memory.

That is what I did and they work fine now.

I did contact HTC support via their web site and they said they would get back with me.

They also have a thread for the same problem with no permanent solution on HTCs support forum. Guess we will just have to wait for HTC to fix the problem.

That happened to me before. All I did was remove the icon and then go to my program screen and drag it back on again.

FYI, this is NOT restricted to cases where you've moved apps to the SD card. I've not moved any apps to my SD card, but ran into this with icons inside folders. They were fine for a few days, then for no apparent reason they're generic icons, and a reboot doesn't fix.

(cuellarm mentioned folders a few posts up, but I wanted to make it clear I've never moved an app to the SD card but still hit this via folders.)

Have you turned the phone off and back on and had the icons stay?

It is weird how changing a skin would work - but it worked for me. Easier then having to re-create all the icons not working.

I talked to HTC yesterday & they said their aware of this issue & they are working on fix that will come as a maintenance release but they have no timeline for this release..

You'll find it documented on the Evo 4g forum. No solution has been found other than switch to a different scene and then switch back, but that is only temporary. If you reboot, it happens again.
Yep. I had the same problem on the 4G (only after upgrading to the stock Sprint GB ROM) - icons inside of folders would go to the generic icon. Switching the scene would solve it till the next reboot. Luckily, the 4G (or the 3D) don't need a reboot all that often.

either restart sense, or, download an app call fastreboot; either way will bring your icons right back...

HTC reps reply to my problem:

Thank you for your reply. I reviewed your information with my team and it seems that Sense is losing track of where the icon file is located when you turn the phone off and then back on. Other users report that changing between skins or force closing HTC Sense from home>menu>settings>applications>running services will refresh the icon pointer.

In the meantime, we will research the issue for inclusion in a maintenance release. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I hope you have a great holiday!

Exclamation Put a Facebook shortcut on my home screen but...

Hi all,

So I put the Facebook app on my home screen for easy access. After a day or so the logo becomes what looks like the android market picture, except that it says Andoird on the top and is still named Facebook.

If i delete the shortcut and re add it, it shows fine, then a day later it gets funky again. Weird. Anyone else experience this? Anyone know how to fix? Should I just uninstall the app and reinstall?
