I had the same issue, and then I downloaded HTC Sync, which brought along the drivers I needed. Go download that, and you should be good to go.

However, might I ask what OS you're running, along with your CPU and amt of RAM?

Where did you get HTC Sync? On the Evo 4G, it came with the sdcard. Not there anymore...

On the phone, it's there pre-installed, I believe. As for the PC version, I think I googled it, and got this: Application - HTC Sync for all HTC Android Phones & HTC Smart

Now I know it says for the HTC Smart, but trust me on this. Download it, install it, and it should install the drivers for you. Then plug in your HTC EVO 3D, and it will recognize it, even if the HTC site is slow to realize it's been released...

well, i have the drivers from my Evo 4G, and they work on my E3D.... to an extent. phone works. adb works. but fastboot does not. On the Evo 4G, I was able to use the same driver for all three...

Well, I'll d/l the latest HTC Sync and see if that fixes it.

thanks.

Default HTC Sync 3.0 cannot find EVO 3D on Windows Vista

Hey guys, I seem to have a small problem here. I've tried HTC Sync 3.0 for my EVO 3D on Windows XP, and everything went flawlessly, but when I tried it on my laptop running Windows Vista (32 bit), I cannot get the phone to connect to Sync. What I think is preventing the phone from connecting is the My HTC drivers are not loading properly. In Device Manager, I notice an error under Android USB Devices > My HTC. When I open the My HTC properties window, it displays the following error: "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)" I've tried manually moving the drivers to the Windows\System32 folder and rebooting, but that does not solve the problem. Has anybody else had this problem, and if so, how can this be fixed? Thanks in advance.

Uninstall the drivers, delete the download for the drivers, then redownload the drivers and reinstall. You probably have a bad download on the drivers.

I've already tried that. The problem is that Vista cannot start the device. The driver is loaded though. It doesn't help that HTC didn't include Sync on the EVO 3D's SD card nor have a download option specifically for the EVO 3D on their site. Also I cannot get Internet Passthrough to work either. All I can do is mount my SD card to my computer. So, the main problem is getting the My HTC driver to start. It shows up in Device Manager with a yellow warning triangle.

Posts moved here, per the [OFFICIAL SOLUTION FAQ] Having trouble with your EVO 3D? Click here! noted in the http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/360315-must-read-official-htc-evo-3d-forum-guide.html

Don't know if you've seen this thread or not, and I'm not sure about version numbers on Sync, post 5 above has a link to HTC that will get you to the latest one.

Still no luck after reinstalling several times. Do you think it could be a problem with Windows Vista?

I found out my problem. I needed at least Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista.

Hi! Have you tried reinstalling HTC Sync to get the drivers? The reason I ask is because I had the EVO 4G and Sync was already on one of my my pc's. However, it would not read my 3D when I got it until I updated Sync and got the 3D drivers. Also, make sure you select disc drive if you are wanting to view files and that under Applications and Development usb debugging is off. If you are trying to use something like EasyTether or sdk tools then leave usb debugging selected. Also, and this may be tmi for your situation, if you are going to use sdk and/or do not use Sync, uninstall it. You will still have your updated drivers. If this all fails but you know your usb port works with other data sources, try a different usb cable. Hope this helps!

I just got the EVO 3D because my EVO 4G wouldn't sync anymore. I've downloaded the latest update of HTC Sync for both phones and the phones just can't find it on my PC. I'm using Windows XP Pro. This is driving me to distraction. Sprint and HTC Tech Support couldn't help me. They said I was doing everything right.

My EVO 4G was still under warranty. I had an upgrade available so I sold the EVO 4G for $87 and tried 2 Samsung Epic 4G Touch's with disastrous results. Those kept overheating with regular use, plus the screens would freeze when I had the charger plugged in. That never happened with the EVO 4G.

So I've spent money I really shouldn't have had to unless there is a new solution. I did try the link in post # 5. When I clicked to download HTC Sync for the HTC Smart, I got a blank page with a "bad request" message.

Can anyone help me? The manager at my local store said this is the last phone they will let me try. I've been syncing phones for years. I'm not sure what to do from here. My PC recognizes the phone is plugged in because I can charge and open the drive to view files on the phone, etc.

Thank you in advance.

Hmmm, what troubles.
With our collective minds I'm pretty confident that we can get to the bottom of this.
Try this link first: HTC Mobile Phone Support - HTC EVO 3D (Sprint) - Downloads The link in post #5 was from before the Evo 3D product page was fully updated with the downloads area (looking at the original post date for this thread, that was during release week) also they have since upgraded the Sync drivers to a new version. The HTC Sync drivers are probably 32 bit drivers for the majority of people operating systems out there, if you are running a 64 bit system that might be part of the issue as well. Also, it sounds a bit suspect that your Evo 4G was syncing via HTC Sync just fine and then stopped syncing one day (let me know if this is wrong though). If it just up and stopped Syncing one day then I would think there is an issue or conflict on the computer/software side of things

I'm not trying to sound like a smart alec here but of curiosity, if you can charge the phone and open the folders to view files, add and remove files, etc. what else are you trying to accomplish? Looking to sync Outlook calendars and contacts or something?

Actually I ran into this on my netbook. For some strange reason it would read my EVO 3D from one port and not another. Also, it could have to do with what drive is assigned to external storage. I'm not in front of my pc at the moment so I can't give exact instructions (I'm posting from my phone) but go to the Administrative Tools and go to Manage Hardware (and I think External Storage from there) and change the drive assignment. I will try to come back on later and give more details. I hope this at least gives you a starting point.

OK, go into Administrative Tools-->Computer Management-->Disk Management. Right Click on Disk Management and click on Change Drive Letter and Paths. You would want to change this to a drive that is not already assigned. Again, just another thing to try!

Thank you for replying. My main concern is that I add new contacts all the time and I used to be able to see the phone syncing. Not so now, but if the phone will sync automatically, then it may not be a problem at all. I'll try the link you posted.

Hi. I went back to get a new EVO 4G as I like it so much better. I've installed HTC Sync via the SD card, but I still get the "sync failed" message every time. However, the date of my last attempt always shows and all my contacts seem to be okay. I can charge the phone and move files between my PC and phone.

Thanks for asking.
