why the hell don't we get the update from HTC, this should be offered to those of us that purchase an HTC phone even if it is on sprint (*$(@#@# worthless network. here in Oklahoma we still pay the $10 more a month for the 4g we are told yet we don't have 4g here.

we have put up with crappy service here for 2 years. we are told "they have towers down in your area, been told that they are 160% over capacity being they are now selling the iphone, have been told that they have been kicked off towers they were leasing. I have heard so many excuses from them. my wife and I drop around 50% or our calls a day we call in and they just give us credit. I don't want credit just fix the #$(*@.

as soon as they put a cap on their data plan I am dropping their sorry @#$$.

our county and local PD just dumped sprint and went to Verizon because of the poor service, our laptops would not stay connected. I heard Cox communications in Oklahoma dumped them for Verizon because of the same issues.

I guess I am just going to root mine tonight. Screw Sprint!!!!

So it's clear - the extra $10 per month is on all smartphones, and is not a 4G charge.

Go with MeanROM GB or ICS. They are both outstanding and everything works

I thought this thread was for whining and complaints only. Although everyone that can't wait for ICS already has a rooted ROM version, the real thing must be outstanding. Don't get me wrong, I want it just as bad after reading this thread for 6 months.

I sent an email to CS about a few things and I asked them when the release for ICS was....here is their reply, so take it for what it is worth....

"The Android 4.0 update for your HTC EVO 3D has a set ETA of mid-July."

So, by this reply, we should see it within the next 10 days or so......

We have heard so many lies like this from sprint cs over the years I bet if you did a poll 95%+ would agree that mid July will not happen.

Everyone relax, a Sprint rep (that appears legitimate...) posted on the "official" Sprint Community forum that ICS is in final testing for the Evo3D...apparently he is a 3D owner as well so understands our anticipation.

I just love this phone so much, its so prompt with updates and releases. I find it amazing how sprint does exactly what they say and what we request from them. Sprint is just outstanding with its responsiveness. Thank you so much sprint.

You know the Evo3d got screwed by Sprint when it looks like the E4gt is going to get ICS before we do. Terrible when Samsung gets a major update faster than HTC. Has that ever happened before? :-)

It's ironic in retrospect, but when I was shopping for my first Android it came down between the Evo3D and the SGS2. One of the many reasons I picked the Evo3D was HTCs track record with update support. Today as the SGS2 for Sprint gets ICS, I feeling kind of upset. I am looking on the bright side though! At least I don't still have a Palm Pre =)

Yeah, it is a bit disheartening to have the E4GT get ICS first. I wasn't in any real hurry for it after playing with it on the the OneX anyway. Now I am not going to worry about it. 4gLTE is turned on for Wichita, so I will be picking up an Evo4gLTE. Just have to decide if I want the white or black one. My wife is keeping her Evo3d and I will send mine to my mother in law to replace her horrible blackberry. It really is too bad Sprint dropped the ball so much on supporting the Evo3d, because it really is a great phone.

At first I was thinking that this was only Sprint's fault, not updating the 3D to ICS, but I am now thinking it is both Sprint and HTC. All the other 3Ds are just now getting ICS. The international version has had it only a few weeks now, maybe a month. The Canadian version just recently got theirs. So this tells me that HTC is partly to blame. But, Virgin Mobile has had theirs since May 30, from the release day of their 3D. I don't see how Virgin could have gotten theirs and Sprint not have theirs when they run on the same network? Or am I am missing something? Is the Virgin Mobile version much different from ours?

Seriously, though … are we "really" getting this update or not?? And yes, I've been anticipating way too long. We do have every right to vent on how we feel...and I'm just mad.

Sprint …… you suck. Period.

The lesson I've learned from all this is to stay away from HTC phones. From here on out, it's only Nexus devices. (yes I'm aware the Nexus One was an HTC phone)

I will also be buying only Nexus devices from here out. I love my Evo3D, it's a great phone, but I don't ever want to have to wait for updates again.

I don't think this is HTC. HTC has gotten the ICS updates to all its other devices, and before the SGS2 to boot. This issue is with Sprint. One more reason for me to switch carriers next year, TBH.

I am as upset as you guys are, however just remember our phones still work really well and that 2.3.4 isn't doing us any disservice =)

HTC has gotten the ICS updates to all other devices is true, but not the 3D. The 3D has taken longer than any other device. You can see this if you look how long its taken the international and Canadian version to get theirs. So its not just a Sprint thing, its an HTC thing also. I personally think that HTC just does not really care much about this phone anymore. It was/is a great phone. It just was not marketed right in my opinion.

For me I cannot say I would stay away from HTC phones. Even though I'm using a SGS3 right now, I still think very highly of HTC. I have had three HTC phones, and liked all of them. I would love to see what HTC could do with another Nexus device. You do realize that CDMA Nexus phones will take a little longer on the updates than the GSM versions? Look how long it took the Nexus S on Sprint to get ICS. So having a Nexus device does not guaranty you will have the next update as soon as it is released. You still have to wait on carrier if you are on a CDMA network. That being said, I think I am going to go with a Nexus device next time also.

The 3D features are more difficult to write code for than a normal phone. From my understanding, this is primarily what has caused the delay versus the other HTC phones. I think HTC cares, they just have a lot of devices to get ICS to and JB is already coming.

Don't get me wrong the Evo3D is not a priority device for HTC or Sprint anymore, but it's not an intentional "slide" to HTC customers who purchased a 3D. That's just the nature of the industry. The newer devices get priority.

ICS is still coming, albeit relatively late compared to other devices.

The 3D part of the update has been done for the GSM model and the VM model (which includes making it work on the Sprint network).

Sure looks like Sprint is the holdup rather than HTC here. Just saying.

it's 100% Sprint's fault at this point, the only blame on HTC now is kernel source.

Yea, it is pretty much on Sprint now. There is already a fully working CDMA version of ICS for our phone (on VM), so now it is purely on Sprints developers that have to put all their bloatware into it and make it say Sprint instead of VM on everything and roll it out to our devices...

Look how long it took the Nexus S on Sprint to get ICS. So having a Nexus device does not guaranty you will have the next update as soon as it is released. You still have to wait on carrier if you are on a CDMA network. That being said, I think I am going to go with a Nexus device next time also.
The next time I get a new phone, it will likely be later this year when Google releases the new Nexus device(s), and I will get the GSM version directly from them. I have no issue paying an extra $150 for a phone to make sure the carriers' don't get their grubby little hands all over it and to assure that I get fast updates.
The 3VO was my first android phone through a carrier and likely my last. Sprint and HTC have been nothing but a nightmare handling this whole thing. The broken deadlines have turned into outright lies as far as I'm concerned.
The same goes with Toshiba for me at this point. It was originally told that the Thrive was going to get ICS in the spring. That turned into October. What a load of BS.

I'm going to be sticking to a Nexus phone off contract like Xanok plans to do. I'd buy a HTC again as long as it was a Nexus device as well. The Evo3D itself is really well made & I'm extremely happy with the phone itself.

Sprint, on the other hand, I'm 100% fed up with. The WiMax debacle & now 3G is horrible. The promises they continually give & break. I'm supposed to trust them with LTE? No, I'm done.

The Evo3D ICS update is slow coming for a multitude of reasons. Mainly releasing right when Sprint changed their entire network focus. Right now though, with ICS CDMA being ready, I don't know what is stopping ICS for the Evo3D other than Sprint just being Sprint.

Looks like we'll all be using Nexus phones soon. I looked up when the next one is expected... rumors are late 2012 or early 2013.
I'm already up for an upgrade. I'll wait til that phone comes out before I use it.
Like you said, the 3VO isn't a bad phone. The lack of updates though is disheartening.

the virgin mobile version has some bugs, HTC is working on a patch and I'm sure this is the reason it's been delayed on Sprint.

My friend just told me that his SG2 on Sprint got ICS today.

I'm eligible for an upgrade, looks like a Galaxy Nexus is my next phone. A little older than the Evo LTE or SG3, but it already has Jelly Bean. How long will it be before the SG3 and Evo LTE get Jelly Bean? Anyone think that it will be less than 6 months?

FYI...Sprint's Galaxy Nexus doesn't have Jelly Bean yet, at least mine hasn't had the update yet...I think the GSM version has gotten it already

As Corpse11 stated, Sprint's GNex doesn't have official Jelly Bean. It of course has Jellybean ROMs available (no noticeable issues).

If you had asked this question a few months ago, I'd have guessed that EVO LTE would get JB within 6 months, but with how Sprint has handled the ICS update to one of their most recent flagship devices (EVO 3D), I'm not sure anymore.

Sounds about right. From the beginning I was skeptical we'd actually see it in June, and now I'm skeptical we'll even see it in July.

I will say this, if we DO in fact get the update in July, the EARLIEST we'll see it is the end of the month. Sprint has taken their sweet time with this release thus far, I doubt that suddenly changes.

As was mentioned by others, this is 100% on Sprint now as they are busy cramming their bloatware on this update, and quite frankly the 3D is at the absolute bottom of their list of priorities. So don't be surprised if we get to the end of July only to find out it got bumped out another month or 2 judging by how this has gone thus far.

What's funny (or sad) is that I was thinking the EXACT same thing. With the awesome track record of HTC and the original EVO compared to Samsung being the dog on updates, I decided I'd go with the 3D because of that track record and with HTC being better about the software on their devices and support.

I was rewarded only to see Samsung become good at software updates with HTC falling completely off the map.

Like you and others, I may have to buy a Nexus for my next phone so there isn't any bloatware to hold up the update, as it will come straight from google. Also, that will guarantee you'll always get the most up to date version, rather then with a carrier where if the device isn't sold anymore they likely won't waste time updating it.

For example, I'll venture out on a limb and say the 3D will NEVER get Jelly Bean. If however we had a Nexus phone, we would get Jelly Bean provided the hardware could support it.

but, the Sprint Nexus isn't even recognized by AOSP, wtf, lol. I like the LTE, but, who's to say if I buy one now, it'll still be supported in 6 months? Sprint really needs to get their 'ish together, I'm just saying

The tech said he thought it was the "motherboard" which I'm guessing is the same as the digitizer, but maybe not...because my phone won't even turn on or anything and if I plug it in the light is dim then goes solid, but if you push the power button the light disappears all together and nothing. A couple minutes after it first happened, I was able to get it to go the white HTC screen when I would hold the volume button and power at the same time...but it would power down again after that
