I have been drooling over the Galaxy Nexus and am getting jealous of the new phones coming out..but I have to say that spec wise there isn't much those do that my 3V0 doesn't. I'd like NFC and ICS (mainly for the Swype update). I can actually say I am SINCERELY happy my contract doesn't come due till Spring of next year. I can't see anything awesome coming to Sprint soon that'd make me want that over the 3V0. Plus, I'd like to see their LTE network built out that way when I get my next phone it is LTE and I can take advantage of it. Are you still happy?

If we had any polished AOSP ROMs, I would have no problem with the Evo 3D. But, currently, I have no need for Sense and would like to remove it from my phone. Plus the whole S-ON Unlocked thing instead of S-OFF still rubs me wrong.
And the topic is "Still happy with the Evo?", the 'General' tag is one of the four tags that can be put on the thread. It just reads like it's a part of the thread title. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do to make it grammatically correct.

No complaints for our 2 E3D's since June! As far as upgrading I don't see anything that blows my skirt up. As of right now when I upgrade it will be HTC, if they keep their track record intact.

It didn't show the brackets on my phone which is why I thought I might have put it on there haha. I do have to say, I love Sense. I can't live without it

I am with J, I have no use for sense and can completely do without it. And yes this S on and S Off is a PITA for us trying to help members out seems that HTC simply wanted to make peoples life complicated. All we care about is the hardware off the phone and not have to be forces to use the UI.
I guess idk right now, the devics itself is ok, but as others have said the hboot 1.5 is annoying and it makes flashing Roms correctly a bit more tedious for me. I'm also wishing the screen size of the 3D was a bit bigger, the screen itself is fine as far as its quality. I'll still hold on to it until the new wave of HTC's hit the shelves. Stuff like playstation titles and beats audio will be more than enough for me.

Reason: NEW wave
I am still happy with my Evo 3D. However, if I could pick an Android right now I would go with the Galaxy Nexus. When I got my Evo 3D I was in a pinch. My old phone was pretty much dying & I had to make a decision. While I am happy with my Evo 3D I wish I could have waited just a little longer for the Galaxy Nexus.
Some Criticism:
I loved Sense at first but now it seems like a hassle. I'm not a root user so I'm stuck with it.
I'm disappointed that a lot of HTC phones are going to get ICS before us. That's annoying since the Evo3D was a "flagship" phone.
Another thing that bothers me is that that our phones are sub-HD. After I bought my phone a lot of 720p phones immediately showed up. I must admit; I felt slighted.
More than anything I am disappointed in the Camera. The shutter is so so so slow! The pictures are always blurry if there is any movement at all. Also if I don't have natural light the photos are tinged yellow/orange.
It's not really HTCs fault, but the #1 thing that bothers me about my phone is that Sprint sold me a WiMax phone in a large city (Phoenix) without WiMax & now they're switching to LTE. Thus, making my phone's "4G" useless until I buy a new phone since they will not be expanding WiMax any longer. I wish I had gone with Verizon as their 4G is well established in Phoenix. (My next upgrade will be with Verizon. I'm done playing Sprint's game with 4G promises.)
Things I love that make everything above worthwhile:
I just love the big beautiful display on my Evo 3D. I can't imagine going with anything smaller for screen size.
I love how fast and responsive it is and how it runs everything I need it to run, and quickly.
I love how bright the diplay is too & the assortment of Apps that I have access to.
The 3D is a cool feature to show my friends but nothing I use on a daily (or weekly) basis.
Chrome to phone is pretty much the coolest thing EVER... I don't think I could live without it LOL
I can't upgrade again until March 2013, so... who knows what we'll have by then? If I had to buy a phone tomorrow it would be the Galaxy Nexus with Verizon. So while I am still happy with my Evo3D, I have mixed feelings about it.

This is totally off-topic & not to blaspheme on these forums but, I'm a not root user. I don't do anything advanced on my phone. I text, I take pictures, & I play games. As much as I hate Apple, if they will just upgrade the size of their puny little 3.5" displays I will probably buy an iPhone. For what I do on my phone day to day, there is nothing Android can do that an iPhone couldn't. Unfortunately I play a lot of games & many of them get update priority on iOS. The Camera quality seems better too. However, as long as Apple keeps their itty-bitty 3.5" display, they wont get a cent of my money.
I can't upgrade again until March 2013, so... who knows what we'll have by then? If I had to buy a phone tomorrow it would be the Galaxy Nexus with Verizon. So while I am still happy with my Evo3D, I have mixed feelings about it.
I agree with you 100%. Sprint is getting the galaxy nexus but I'm going to pass on it. I want the next motorola device that sprint releases. Hopefully its similar to the razr maxx.
I'm happy with it over all, but like several of you I am frustrated with Sprint's service and their lack of communication if regards to ICS, and a release date for the Nexus (which looks very attractive, if it were a world phone it would be a purchase on release day for me).
The WiMax/LTE thing was also a good point, with the LightSquared fall out I'm curious to see what will happen the LTE.
I'll admit that the 3D is something that I rarely if ever use. If anything I only really break it out when someone asks about it after seeing the camera's. I also agree that the camera could have used some work, its not great.
Hardware wise though, the 3VO still seems to be a front runner compared to other phones offered by sprint and other carriers. The device itself is still a rock star, but if we were able to get S-Off, and a good AOSP build then I would be in heaven with it.
I too would possibly think about an iPhone just because it would match so well with my MBP. It'd have to be a 4.5" screen though and I'd need the customization that my EVO 3D has. I AM SICK of the permanent buttons on the bottom, the SLOW shutter speed, the Otterbox Commuter Case not fitting well (even after 3 of them...), Sense weather widget not updating on the lock screen, HTC calendar not updating, and no built in widget control that has 4G toggle on it. I'd also like to just once be able to use 4G.
picking up the camera point, I was initially pleased that the Evo has a shutter button, but actually it slows down taking a photo. Pressing the on screen shutter seems to take the photo instantly.
I was also a bit disappointed to find that holding the shutter button half way down doesn't lock the exposure setting, only the focus.
As an FYI, those of you who have complaints about the camera should look into the Amaze camera mod. There is a non-rooted and rooted version. It is really good and works with 3D.

I'm still more than happy with my phone, and I can't wait till the ICS update finally comes out. But I would have to admit, when they announce the iPhone 5 in June...if it is 4GLTE and has better or equal specs than the current Sprint phones at the time it comes out, I'll be switching to that. I've always disliked the fact I can't really sync my phone to my computers (Mac's) since HTC does not make Mac supported programs.
I came from and rooted Evo 4g that I had since the phone came out. I bought this phone when I was due for an update last Dec. 7th for $49.99. Figured I couldnt find a better price then a phone. I got lucky and ended up with older boot version so was able to root easily. I was concerned I wouldnt get used to the smaller screen at 1st but I did.
The phone compared to the Evo was much faster so that was a plus along with battery life. I was concerned at first because I didnt see as much traffic in these forums for ROMS and was used to flashing roms like changing clothes on the Evo. Mostly for the battery life chase but also just to have a change.
Someone in 1 of the forums pointed out part of the reason I didnt see as much support for ROMS on this phone was because there is not much to "fix" or make better on this phone and I have to agree. I've tried most of the ROMS decided to stick with Clean 2.9.5. It does EVERYTHING I need my phone to do and more.
I'm used to sense and prefer it over AOSP. I tried some of the ICS ROMS on the Evo before I switched to the 3D and also have it on my Transformer Prime..Its not a big deal. Updates are always nice but when it doesnt change much it doesnt make or break me. Just my opinion.
I also considered an Iphone 4S at 1 point but I have an Itouch so I have a good idea what it would be like and I'm not interested. I'm going to stick with HTC and Android since the latest phones have done the job. I like being able to watch (adobe flash), download music, movies anything I want when I want not having to go thru Itunes and etc.
I was switching phones often prior to these phones so now its a big accomplishment if I have it for over 1 year. My only complaint is not having good 4G but having a 4 G device. Its great when I have it.. Still Happy with my device and waiting the next upgraded version..

They say hindsight is 20/20. Well I kind of wish I had at the very least held out for the Epic 4G Touch. All my instincts told me to wait the extra month but I was so impatient.
I can't say the Evo3D has kept my attention long. I've only had my phone 7 or 8 months and I'm already getting anxious for the newer devices on the horizon. With Sprint getting rid of the 1-year upgrade plan I don't know how I'm going to wait the full two years to get out of my contract & head to Verizon when these quad-core devices hit the market.
As I said in another thread; I'm shooting for the 2013 Nexus phone. Just not happy with the non-vanilla Android devices any longer.
This phone-fever I caught last year thanks to these Forums (Sheesh thanks guys!!! ) I've become a little crazy about smartphones. Whereas before last year I could care less and carried around a Palm Pre lol

Hindsight may be 20/20, but our culture has become blind with dis-satisfaction. And we all have developed gadget Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Even if you had waited for the Epic 4G Touch you would still be in this same situation I can confidently predict. The grass is nearly always greener elsewhere.

I completely agree with you. While I might be more satisfied with my phone had I waited, I am convinced I would still be looking at other devices & drooling. You're totally correct & I have fallen into this pit of GADD. (Gadget ADD) lol
I think if I had held out for the Galaxy Nexus I would be happy. However that is just a pipe dream because my old phone was breaking in May/June and would never had made it to the G-Nexus release.
But you're right. Even if I had got the Epic 4G Touch, in a few months I would just be drooling over the G-Nexus. Then the process goes on & on. It's one of the reasons I like the Google Nexus, iPhone, & Samsung S Series phone release processes. Once a year makes it so you don't have to worry about a better phone coming out for at least a year. It's also why my next phone will be a Nexus, iPhone, or Galaxy-S.
My Evo3D was my first Android phone & I took a leap of faith on the HTC brand because of all the positive input on these forums for them. I had been leaning to Samsung but at the time they were the worst for dev support & updates. So far I've just been disappointed with the overall quality of my Evo3D when compared to my friends iPhone 4S, Moto Bionic, & Galaxy-S2.
It certainly didn't help my faith in HTC to see HTC co-founder Cher Wang in line at an Apple Store buying two of everything they make. Or to hear HTC UK Chief Phil Roberson talk (after a bad quarter) about how he wants to start re-focusing on amazing hardware. Insinuating (to me) the phones they had been making the previous year were mediocre.
My Evo3D is still 1,000 times better than my old Palm Pre LOL =)

Personally, I think if you had waited for the E4GT you would have been looking for a new phone sooner. I bought 2 Evo3Ds at launch for my wife and I. Around the end of September I bought the E4GT for my son. His phone has been headache after headache. The 3g, wifi, and gps have been utterly terrible from day 1.he just got a replacement the other day, hopefully it will be better. Based on what I have seen in their forum, I don't expect it to be much better. Nice phone, as long as you don't need it as a phone.
I think the only thing I am really disappointed about with the Evo3D isn't actually the phone, it is that I never got 4G service, other than a couple of times in airports. If they had a way to swap out the wimax radio and put in an lte, I could see myself holding onto this phone for quite a while.

I couldn't agree more with this guy!!! I as well am locked in until 2013 and i as well agree 100% Sprint sold Me a 4g Wimax device in a city with no 4g now their switching to LTE and we will no longer possibly have 4g in our areas!!!! And now were stuck with 4g Wimax phones that will never be used in our area of living and not only that but our "flagship" 3d feature and our other features such as dual core...now were going to be one of the last for ics but the thing is by the time we get ICS... GUESS WHAT!?!? LTE will be out our 4g Wimax will be shot for the most part...and our phone will slowly die out guarantee and i can't upgrade until March 2013 so now I'm f$$$ed !!!!!! Just like the guy that I quoted above!

Agree with Adair with one difference...I happen to be be one of the lucky ones who does get 4G and man, is it fast! I have a good friend who works for VZW who has been trying to get me to switch to them but who can't even get LTE in my house. Of course, she doesn't live there but I do! I have an upgrade in September so hopefully Sprint has LTE going in my area by then. I would really like for my next device to be Sprint's first HTC LTE It goes without saying that I am operating under the presumption that Sprint's LTE will work as well as the WiMax (or at least as well as WiMax works for me). The sad thing about WiMax is that it was never widely deployed, which is too bad because it really is faaaaasssstttt.

What speeds were you getting on WiMax? My GF with her TBolt with Verizon is getting ~23Mb/s downloads and the best I have seen in a 4G area on Sprint is ~1.4Mb/s download speed. Mind you that was back in like October or something but that is still a SIZABLE difference in speeds.

I've gotten around 8.2MB/s in my area on a normal day...LTE is a lot faster than WiMax in most cases
I get about 8 Mb/sec as well. Not as good as LTE, sure, but for most things that I do on the go, that's good enough. I usually just read news stories and such when out and about. WiMAX is actually pretty strong around here, too, so I often have it if I need it.
Storms are over (for now, anyway) and this is what I am getting inside my house. Like I said, I guess I am one of the lucky ones but you can see why I am happy with my 4G service and my EVO 3D Sometimes I get 10 or above.

I'm still very happy with my 3VO, but I am one of those 'have to have the latest and greatest' folks, so I'll be using my wife's upgrade once the GNex is released and upgrading to the GNex and I'll give her my 3VO, which will then have the OG EVO on the backburner as a backup device for either of us in the event of a mishap.
My most recent (this AM) 4G speedtest. I've gotten as high as 15mbps, but it's been a while since I have seen a speed that high. 11-12 is about where I avg here in NYC/Long Island.

wifi drops in and out
sometimes when it says you are connected to wifi, the phone will tell you there is not data connection
random reboots galore
recently, when i get a phone call it will not ring, but the screen will come on and let me know someone is calling. when i go to answer it the phone app force closes and then i have to call them back
sometimes when typing on the keyboard it will just disappear
sometimes the touch input will be way off from where i actually touched
sometimes when trying to turn the screen on it will flash for a second then reboot
3g speeds are a complete joke now. glad i have unlimited data because i doubt i could use 1gig in a month if i tried. anymore i'm happy to get 100kbps
i get a lot of dropped calls
the carousel is just ******ed, it has no function and just makes things harder to do
the worst part is all of this stuff happens at random, and i can never get it to act up when at the sprint store. its like my phone is constantly trolling me
this phone is the second worst phone i have ever owned with the palm pre being the worst
i've considered dusting off my hero and going back to it. atleast i know it can handle its main function of receiving calls better than my 3vo

I would love to root but the last thing I need is to root and have the display die on me like the last one did and have them deny my a warranty replacement. This phone does it's job but I just get let down by it quite a bit. The screen will freeze up and not allow me to input anything unless I turn the display off then back on. It doesn't happen very often so it's hard to diagnose. The programs I have installed are all major apps and none of them are customization ones. I've done hard resets and battery pulls, still to no avail.
Did you even read the post? He said he can't get the it to act up while at the sprint store.
I must have passed right by where he wrote that. Simmer down there faux-forum police.

What hboot are you on? You could always revert to stock if something were to happen to your device. Worse case scenario, just go through the insurance if you have it. You don't have to worry about anything with them. You just pay your fee and carry on.

I don't have insurance. At the end of the year what I would pay to carry Asurion and pay a deductible, the cost benefit doesn't do much for me. I'm on HBOOT 1.5

There is a workaround for HBOOT 1.5 - it seems like a fairly simple process, but you would have to follow the directions as it reads.
...you quoted my original post which said, "I would love to root but the last thing I need is to root and have the display die on me like the last one did and have them deny my a warranty replacement." I appreciate the help but that requires the HTC Unlock which gives them reason to deny a warranty replacement.
i must have gotten a lemon phone or something. I hate my phone
wifi drops in and out
sometimes when it says you are connected to wifi, the phone will tell you there is not data connection
random reboots galore
recently, when i get a phone call it will not ring, but the screen will come on and let me know someone is calling. when i go to answer it the phone app force closes and then i have to call them back
sometimes when typing on the keyboard it will just disappear
sometimes the touch input will be way off from where i actually touched
sometimes when trying to turn the screen on it will flash for a second then reboot
Have you tried a factory data reset?
Our threads on vocoder changes and 3G proxies may help as well.
Note that Sprint stores have their own tower relays to give the best signal and many signal issues are masked by that. A Sprint service center near you can perform an RF box test to determine the truth of hardware health if a factory data reset fails to address the issues.
And finally, a call to customer services, and go up the management ladder until someone listens, is in order if all that fails. Let them know that a bad unit is making you think twice about Sprint.
Clearly, your phone has lemony scent, whether hardware or software, and life's too short to not get your money's worth.

I know I did, but not all devices are the same. The issues experienced aren't exactly widespread across everyone else's 3VO's or even the exact same phone, but different/newer model.

? If I have a phone malfunction and I lose the display (we've had it happen on 2 EVO 3Ds in the family), I don't want them to be able to deny me a warranty replacement because I rooted my phone. I'm not 100% sure that they would but it isn't something I am willing to chance. Aside from that, I'm not sure what this last message was supposed to mean.

What I am saying is that if I rooted my device and it was fine, but you rooted yours and somehow you acquired a glitch - the issues that affect our devices aren't widespread. As in not a lot of people suffer the exact same problem. You'll always find folks with issues, but everyone seems to have a weird different one. In your case, it is a faulty display - which I really don't understand how your display was affected by rooting.
Sprint said that so long as there was no obvious evidence of rooting causing a problem, they would honor warranties and service contracts. I don't have the announcement at my fingertips, but I seem to recall them using the display as a case in point that can't get damaged by rooting. That was an enlightened policy change and no one else has followed suit. HTC says that you void warranty using their unlocking tool.
Anyway, rooting isn't for everyone.
PS to atistang - if you don't want to hassle the phone, you can email Sprint service. Either way, insist that you think that you have a problem needing Tier 3 support if they start messing with you. And customer retention can often help. The 3D is an excellent phone, but your copy ought get attention from them, in my opinion.

I'm still not sure what you're saying. My EVO 3D has never been rooted. The display just died. My worry is that I root my phone, have a display die because of a hardware issue and they deny me on the basis that I rooted it. The phones we have had lose their displays have been on stock EVO 3Ds. We had a rooted Thunderbolt have the display die as well as an HTC Incredible. I've rooted plenty of phones and am not worried about rooting it causing the problem. I'm worried about there being a hardware issue.

Ah, I was not aware of that. If you can find a link I'd surely appreciate it. I'd love to root just to get rid of a few things but the whole warranty voided has me put off. I've had too many hardware failures that I don't want them to be able to deny me on the basis I rooted it.

Got bored with mine and sold it months ago. Honestly the only reason I got it was the 3D and after that whole fascination wore off by the 3rd week I was bored with it. Kinda hated that I wasted my upgrade on it looking back at it but the gimmick phase got the best of me. And from looking at the development a year later nearly there still aren't any fully functional AOSP roms so I dont really think i'm missing much.

What phone did you switch to and do you like your new device?
Sprint continues their EVO line of Android Phones with what is certainly a first for them - a 3D phone. The HTC EVO 3D boasts 3D technology on a beautiful 4.3-inch screen and get this: you don't even need glasses to enjoy the 3D experience!
