My Swype is broken but I'm largely using Swiftkey so it doesn't matter much to me, but I cannot turn on wifi. I've even uninstalled the Connection Optimizer via Titanium, and I still can't turn it on. 3G and HTC Internet Pass-thru do work.
Oh, and I had lost root but got it back via Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.

It's not the end all solution but some times a good old battery pull for about 15 minutes will fix the wifi / 3-4G issues. It has happened to me before on other updates. Just a suggestion.

It was a wonderful thought, but didn't do the trick. I think I'll have to do a reflash of the last OTA, which I do have stashed.

However, if you are considering rooting, it is recommended to not take this update beforehand.
So does this mean I would not be able to root at all after the update? I plan on messin around with it whenever I get a replacement phone and turn the 3VO into a media device of sorts.

No. Root is still possible but s-off was unknown. We finally just heard last night that someone got s-off on the new ota though! Sd card seems damaged though. Not sure if it's because of their setup or if they were just unfortunate. There was always an implied risk of damaging sd card beyond repair.
But now it looks like full rooting is possible

Agreed, my wife installed it earlier, and now her Swype no longer works. She has had and used Swype since the phone was released. It gives her an error message, something about beta Swype and her license is not valid. She yelled at me to fix it, but I couldn't do anything.
I will now wait to install on my Evo 3D until an update fixes the issue.

Glad I checked first. I guess I will not be updating since I don't think I can text on my phone anymore after using Swype for the last 3+ years. How comparable is Swiftkey?

The newer swift key is better than it used to be. I BETA'd on it for a bit and was actually started to like it, but time ran out, and I'm not going to pay for it when I can use Swype and BETA Swype!

I personally prefer Swiftkey with Flow over Swype. I like having the arrows on the bottom of the keyboard.
I agree 100% but again, not going to pay for it when I don't have to.
I don't know how much it costs now, but I know I got it on sell when the Play Store had one of their sells. This maybe a good alternative to Swype. This keyboard is called Kii Keybord. I used it for a while. Its free and good.

Argh! This is new, and possibly the weirdest thing I have seen this phone do!
Just today, several of my contacts who were in my favorites group, are totally gone from the phone! They were there earlier this morning! I've had the data disconnected since I left home, and during that time the phone deleted 4 people in my favorites group, but left the rest!!!
This has to be new with this update!
I figured out that it deleted all the people who were "starred in Android" whatever that means. I unstarred then in my contacts in gmail and they instantly appeared on my phone.

Perhaps. I've noticed a lot of weirdness since the update. Other than swype being hosed, my phone reboots frequently, now. Also, the items in the recent apps (in the pull-down, notification menu) inexplicably disappear, on occasion. If I go to keyboard settings, the phone hangs and then reboots after a couple of minutes. Etc. This is a horribly botched update. For me, the most frustrating part is that they know of problems, yet they continue to push the update anyway (my wife's phone, for instance, which I didn't update after my phone was ruined, continues to receive the pending update notification).

It's not a great solution but a factory reset could help with some of your issues. People have issues a lot after taking OTA updates, a lot of which are problems in the cache. Rooted users can easily wipe the cache on their phone in seconds. Unfortunately, for non rooted users, the only way to clear the cache is through a factory reset.... This also means that you will lose all your data. Not really an optimal choice there, put up with phone acting up, or start from scratch. Plus there is no guarantee that the reset will fix all of the problems, so it's a big decision for people with a lot of apps/app data.
Also, for your wife's phone, go into settings, software update, and uncheck the automatically check for updates option.

Yeah, a factory reset sounds horrible to me, too (especially considering I'm up for renewal soon- I think I would prefer to avoid doing all of that work twice in a month). Thanks for the tip for my wife's phone, though! For some reason, I thought you couldn't turn that off- I will do so today.
Has anyone else dared run the update today? I'm holding off till others can confirm the update won't break my Swype. As of last night the Swype on my wife's Evo3D was still not working due to issues in this update

The March update has been confirmed by many to break swype. I would hold off if it's that important to you.

This update brought a new program called "Connection Optimizer".... That piece of crap has been randomly turning my wifi and 3G on and off. And today it prevented me from turning on wifi at all, because I woke up early and it thought I was supposed to be sleeping!
The wifi settings could connect to my router and said I had excellent strength, but the wifi symbol at the top of the screen show zero bars...!!! and as soon as I would launch a browser, the wifi would disconnect!
I found the connection optimizer and disabled it, but the wifi still wouldn't turn on. So I turned it off and pulled the battery. Now the optimizer is still disabled, and I can connect to wifi no problem.
I found no settings for the optimizer anywhere, and it is not an app that you can run to change settings.

This def breaks Swype, I even did a factory reset to see if that did anything and Swype still doesn't work. From what I've read, HTC and Sprint are aware of the issue, and HTC is working to send a fix for it. In the mean time you can either install the beta version of Swype from the Swype website, or you can use another app like Swiftkey.
Is there still no solution from Sprint that fixes the Swype problem?
Nope. Ironically, if it weren't for all of this, I'd probably have a new HTC One by now. The lack of support on this issue from HTC and Sprint though, has made me re-think my plans. Not only have they not fixed it, they're still pushing the update that they know breaks it.
Thanks for pointing that out marctronixx! I didn't notice as I've bookmarked this page directly. I forced mine to check and it can't find it yet, but I will definitely keep trying. I'll still choose to be a annoyed with them, but perhaps I'll consider not hating them, now. ;-)

Sprint continues their EVO line of Android Phones with what is certainly a first for them - a 3D phone. The HTC EVO 3D boasts 3D technology on a beautiful 4.3-inch screen and get this: you don't even need glasses to enjoy the 3D experience!
