Default camera self-opens, snaps photos. (physical issue with camera button?)

My HTC Evo 3D (Virgin Mobile) recently began acting up in such a way where the camera keeps coming on by itself and even taking pictures by itself. It went on for a few days, stopped, now it's doing it again. I just did a factory reset and it immediately started up again. It is likely to drive me insane. Please help if you can.

This is odd... Can't say I've heard of an issue like this before. My only thought is that the hardware shutter button is malfunctioning...? Since that button not only opens the camera app, it also snaps a pic. Is this happening in your pocket or even when the phone is sitting on a table untouched?
