You need to put in your pin in the Wallet app, to unlock it. You can do this while in line, by default it stays unlocked for 5 minutes. If the screen turns off before you use it, you don't need to go back in the app within the 5 minutes, just unlock the phone, and you are good to go. You are looking for a pay pass keypad usually. The top section of the keypad will have the nfc reader, just touch your phone to the top section, and should see it processing quickly after that.
I just put my phone next to the card reader and it pulls the wallet up and prompts your pin.... The only thing you need to do is turn your screen on... No need to enter your pin before hand
The Following User Says Thank You to 3vodroid For This Useful Post:
Wake the phone, place it on/near the card reader/PIN screen (compatible ones say pay pass or have an icon that looks like our signal meter turned sideways). This should launch wallet and prompt you for your pin. Keep holding it there, say "abracadabra," and it will show a successful transaction.

Does it usually take a really long time to add the google pre-paid card? Mine says "verifying your account with money network" circle is swirling but nothing is proceding. It's been doing this for a while.
Update: Nevermind. After about 30 minutes it gave me an error and said to try again later. Guess I will do that.

Mine took forever (more than 30 secs! lol), but I put it down and then came back and all was good with the world.

1) Someone said they got ten bucks for activating their Google Card... is this the same as the $10 promo for Google Wallet or is this $20 free? I'm sure it's just the $10 but I want to make sure I understand this correctly.
2) Is there a way to have this automatically draw the amount of transactions or do I need to manually pre-pay set amounts to get it to clear? If Google would allow people to attach ANY credit card to just debit as charges are processed I think this would be a HUGE thing for them.

1) just ten bucks.
2) pre-loaded only (unless you have a citicard). Read the last couple of pages, I think people got pretty hot about it. I don't think it's that big of a deal, and will likely evolve into allowing more/any cards.
Now getting the message "Prepaid is unavailable at this time. Try again soon." It comes up instantly when I try to set it up.
I was getting this message. Now it's stuck on "Adding card...Verifying your account with Money Network." It runs in the background, but stays stuck trying to verify.

I've been trying to get this to work for five days, but it never verifies my account for prepaid.
I called Google for support and he said it had something to do with our device (LTEVO) and that the Engineering team was working on it. He said they would send me a follow-up email when it was resolved so I didn't need to keep trying. It also affects trying to add a Mastercard as well. They sent me an email support ticket for reference. Still waiting for one to tell me it's up again.

I have used both the prepaid card and my Citi MC at Circle K and CVS with no problem, Meijer it will not work. That's because Meijer's RF receiver sucks tho, my embedded cards and keytags don't work there either.
I did however have a problem with "initializing your device" in a low signal area, and afterward google wallet kept my phone awake 100% of the time. Rebooting did not help, did not show up under task manager or Advanced Task Manager app. Had to force close from Apps to let my phone sleep.

Can you use wallet on a new device, with same gmail used on old device with google wallet?!
Im afraid to activate my wallet, because as I'm sure many of you have heard or seen.. I was the unlucky fellow who did a factory reset on day 2 of having the device and mind you I pre ordered may 7 promptly at 9am via the sprint website. I received mine may 24 the google wallet side of the device instantly became bricked when I had no choice but to do a factory reset to fix sense issues....and I had one heck of a mountain to climb in 14 days to get a new device considering the rest of the devices were still stuck in customs...called sprint, google, HTC almost every day we talked...well finally I got what I deserved a new device!
But since I used my gmail address on the bricked wallet I'm scared to use the same gmail to set up google wallet this time on a completely new phone.. any ideas!? Iv asked google several times about this...there only reply was please wait until we are certain what has caused your last issue. They won't say yes youl be fine, but they won't say NO DON'T DO IT EITHER so idk what to do ...I'm dying to test it out though and I can't I don't wanna brick google wallet #2 and be screwed for good this time all over a lack of detail before factory resetting your device!
i think the issue is caused by a local key on the phone and not tied to your google account.
if you are in doubt, then dont do it. you can still sign up your google account on you phone and just wait until the bug is fixed on google wallet. you have made transactions without google wallet for years, so a little while longer wont make much difference..
I was the unlucky fellow who did a factory reset on day 2 of having the device
I factory reset my device on Day 1 with no ill effect. Factory resetting your device was not, and is NOT, the issue at hand.
Quote:

You did have a choice. You always have a choice. You didn't have to factory reset, you chose to do so. There are many other options and choices you could have tried and selected before factory resetting (factory reset was simply the easiest most effective solution, plans backfire all the time).

Google told you what to do. They explicitly said to wait until they have figured out and fixed the problem. So wait. I have noticed waiting appears to be a foreign concept to you, but I plead with you to try your best to be patient and wait for Google to provide you with more details or issue a Wallet update fix. Please.
(if not, set up a 2nd Gmail account specifically for Google Wallet and NFC pay to your little heart's desire)
While I can empathize your story and position I would also like to make a personal request that you not keep repeating the story nearly every time you post (while this is a friendly request on my part, you have the right to do as you wish). Your predicament has been well documented elsewhere already.

I'm guessing because I'm rooted? That and I heard if you don't wipe Google Wallet settings before flashing a new ROM it can cause issues. I did this when I flashed Charmeleon ROM. But i forgot to when I restored my viperROM nandroid backup.

No need to guess, you are correct.
By clicking the "learn more" link below the error message, it states:
"Some users may disable important security mechanisms in order to gain system-level 'root' access to their phone. We strongly discourage doing so if you plan to use GW. We are unable to support devices w/ unauthorized OS's as the security layers of the devices may be limited."
As to your second issue, you may or may not have a problem using GW if you didn't save your info on the nandroid. Mobile GW is device specific when you log in, so by not resetting prior to wipe or flash, it's going to store information that may not be the same on your next ROM and cause issues. Too early to tell whether this can be fixed, but check out the Nexus forums for some tales of GW woe.
Yep, mine says that too, it has no loss of functionality however, just an annoying message. I have flashed roms and radios without resetting wallet, and I'm fine, so it's not an all is lost situation just because you did that. However if you get a secure element error, that's all she wrote. Resetting it prior to any sort of flashing is a way to be safe.
1) Change your device ID in your build.prop file to reflect the following
-ro.product.model=GT-I9300
ro.product.device=GT-I9300
2) Reset Google Wallet
3) Reboot and re-enter your info in the Google Wallet app
4) Add your prepaid card
Done and done, your balance should show. If you're a newbie, $10 instantly. If you've already added funds, it should reflect your current balance.

Yep, getting time out error and will not activate pre paid card. I think with Sprint in talks to start there own NFC wallet app. Google wallet could be out the door at least for Sprint. Agreed, spent years doing it the old fashion way. I can wait for proper fix and not risk doing something silly to LTEVO
Update: Called money network today. Tech informed me it is an issue on there side. Tech was infatic it is not LTEVO or Google wallet app. Tech said 2 days issues would be resolved.
I guess will see

Mine still working as of June 9th
I used my Google prepaid card at McDonald's yesterday (Sat 6-9) for breakfast with no issues. Mine has been set up and working since May 24th though.
I rooted last night using the perm root only method (to get Titanium first) and could not get it to initialize(after clearing Wallet after backing up). Restoring the app data fixed it. Did a full root with recovery after clearing Wallet today, same problem, Titanium fixed it again. Have not tried to pay with it yet since, will report back when I do.
Seems if you have a phone with working Wallet, you can preserve it with Titanium.

Wait, presumably, you needed to root to get Titanium backup so you could backup the app data... so wasn't it already not functioning at that point?

No, it was working fine. I did my homework and realized I needed to reset it after perm root but before full root + recovery, and it might not work. Glad I did, 'cause that's exactly what happened. I cleared it then tried to re-initialize it before I went any further. I REALLY wanted root and the only reason I hadn't already done it was the potential Wallet problems. After scouring here and XDA, I thought this might work, so I tried it. It did (so far.)
I didn't want to full root even with clearing it if the Wallet wouldn't work, even if it was only temporary. I have buy back from Best Buy so I can get the EVO that transforms into a spaceship when it's released in 2 years. So I figured even if I broke the secure element this would make me so angry I'd hurl my EVO onto asphalt, then just walk into BB and get a new one.
(The buy back is cheaper if you pay BB for 1 month of insurance.)

Step by step:
Unrooted = wallet working
Perm root only = wallet working
Titanium Backup = wallet working
Reset wallet = wallet NOT working
Restore data = wallet working
Reset wallet = wallet NOT working
Root + recovery = wallet NOT working
Restore data = wallet working
Maybe that's clear? Sorry, I've posted diffent versions of this in a couple places, tried not to go into all the root details everywhere. Got tired of typing it
I shoulda just wrote up one big clear one and pasted or linked it.

It shows up instantly when you activate wallet on your phone. IF you can activate it.
I can still get my wallet working, but only by restoring data from Titanium. Although as of today I cannot get transactions to finish. My phone sends the info but the register never completes the purchase. I have not had a chance to try the build.prop method, maybe tomorrow. If you are rooted you can try it, not sure if the $10 was EVO specific or not though. Check the xda EVO general google wallet thread, think it's linked above, I'd look myself but I gotta go to bed. Good luck!

Well just another update Decided to call Google this time instead of money network. I have to say the Google lady was very polite Anyway, she knew right away which phone I was calling about ROFL. I guess Google was taken back a bit by the sheer volume of LTEVO sold I guess if a million LTEVO's sold, Goole would have to eat $10mil hehehe Okay, she just said there are team of engineers working on it and typically they hope within another 2 days will be working
Guess will see

Now today when I open the app it says: "Not Supported. Unfortunately, google Wallet has not yet been certified in your country or on your device / carrier"
So this is progress - Right!

I agree! I opened mine today as well just out of curiosity and I received the same exact message...
i'm kinda pissed at this because i've started using it a lot at work (vending machines for food and drinks are set up for NFC) so i loaded my google prepaid card and now its useless. this bettttter not be permanent, if i find out sprint did this i'm going to be PISSED.
Any consideration that this issue is related to the secure element issue, (ie, Sprint doesn't want to cover secure element bricking under its warranty, although since it happens without the user taking an action deemed to void the warranty, they will have to?) If Sprint just told Google to disable the app until they came up with a warning message, or a procedure for re-enabling the secure element, that wouldn't be quite the doomsday scenario that some of these articles are proposing...
Yep, find it weird that this is not front page issue. Some online stores selling LTEvo included $10 google money as the final sell price. Wirefly comes to mind! Even more weird if I google search "evo 4g LTE google wallet" I find almost nothing accept work arounds and evo launch articles Google conspiracy?

It has made the rounds, search again. Nearly every story on page 1 is recent and talks about this incompatibility "issue" Google Search: Google Wallet Evo 4G LTE
More like Sprint conspiracy, as they are readying to create and launch a "Google Wallet"-like service for making purchases via NFC.

ROFL, Pyro you are so right Google wallet is not a huge deal breaker for me I did a Google search 'EVO LTE Google wallet" and the web is up to speed on the issue.
Here is the funny I got my Sprint bill and they did not wave $35 activation fee or my $100 deduction for re-upping my 2yr contract. That all got squared away pretty easily. I asked if customer service rep could transfer me to tech support. Dude, proclaimed to be tech savy I asked what is Sprint doing about the GW dibacle ? Dude, was like, " I just got my EVO and It's fine" I was like really?" I then said "you have a computer terminal in front you?" Google search "Evo LTE Google Wallet" Dude is like "OH Wow" I have not herd anything internal about this and here it is all over the web? Dude was like, I haven't activated my LTEVO yet thanks this is important news. I guess its one of those things you chalk up to laughter. PWND

YOU CANNOT ACCESS ANY PART OF THE APP AND ULTIMATELY CANNOT ERASE THE SECURITY TOKEN.
I am wondering if an uninstall of the update would work to protect the Secutiry Token. When I was having trouble with Wallet previously, I did an uninstall of the Update. What resulted was like a reset. It says the "app is replaced with the factory app". Nothing I had previously entered was retained and I had to reenter. Of course now since the app will not open, am not sure how we would check the state to be sure it did reset.

So this is happening to everyone right?? Bc my wallet was working 100% fine.... So Idk how this could be a software issue.... Now I have cash that is sitting in limbo somewhere... I heard a rumor that sprint wants to do their own type of wallet..... Maybe thats why its down? Im confused.
So, fund the google card with your Paypal card, right? 1.5% back.
I'm still not getting it, guys. The google card is linked to my debit card. You can link it to any card you want. Is it that there is a middle man (google card)? Explain to me the benefit of having a heretofore unlisted card debited by NFC. I'm not trying to be obtuse; I really don't understand the complaint.
One reason could be that you would want to use different cards for different purchases (business and private) with the transaction showing up for tax purposes? That's One reason I would want to be able to attach a multitude of cards.

So has anyone heard anything about g wallet or sprint touch for the evo 4g LTE? I have not unfortunately but I did just receive an email from google talking about how now you can activate g wallet on the LG viper 4g LTE AND RECIEVE $25 FREE... but our beloved evo 4g LTE phones only got $10 and we all know how well that went so far with no word on a fix as far as I know (which threw me off cause I believe that's a lower end phone and is currently running android 2.3 os) and it also talked about a virgin mobile device that is eligible for that $25 credit so has google and sprint given up on our phones for wallet or what? If anyone has any info I'd love to hear it please and thank you! :-)

It did work... ive had my evo since 5/25... and it worked up until like 2 weeks ago... its unclear why sprint/google has it down for our phones but there are some speculations...
