I just want things to run when I want them to, not when they want to. There always seems to be crap running that I don't even use. I turned off auto sync, disabled what I could and clear the cache out of everything, yet these services still go on the net taking up the bandwith I need for my sprint hot spot. Is there any way to keep all apps (other then essential stuff) to stop doing what the hell they want to unless I tell them too? Sorry, just frustrates me. Please understand, I have no desire to ROOT at this time.
I don't even owned this phone and I contact HTC to voice my concern about this issue. Email or contact HTC and express your concern with the way multitasking is functioning on your device. If enough voice is brought to HTC and they see the mass concern on this matter maybe we will see a fix with this issue. (1866-449-8358)
So far I notice that the OTA may have reduced incidences of sense re-loading. In fact I don't think it's happened to me at all yet, when I would occasionally see it when doing very memory intensive stuff.
Hey guys, kinda new to the forum and root thing. I had an Evo 4g lte, nice phone but the multitasking killed me. I hated answering a text and returning to a game or a webpage and it totally reloaded it rather than taking me to where I left off at. I traded for the SGIII, great phone, fast all around and the multitasking is excellent, I hate Touch Wiz, but I use GO Launcher anyways, but gee golly I miss my HTC. I miss the red accent, the screen, the kickstand, and the Camera the most. Has there been any methods found that can fix the multitasking to be comparable to the GSIII? Besides the "fix" that HTC gives you that was an epic fail?

Root+custom Rom makes it better...but does not eliminate it
not aware of a fix from HTC other than the software update last week
I literally, could not use this phone out of the box. It would unload everything I was using, not even a full minute after being out of application.
Home launcher would be unloaded in 45 seconds to a minute and a half, unless I was staring at it. Tabs in the browser would be gone in 30 seconds, forcing page reloads. How can HTC release a phone that's inferior in terms of overall usability and speed, over their last phone (the 3D)??
Even WITH optimization, this phone isn't any faster than the 3D was. It's stronger graphics wise, but none else.
even with the ota (non rooted) multitasking is still an issue.. if you have more than 2 windows open expect re loads ... this is my one and only gripe with this phone...id love too root..but im scared lol
I have gotten this screen twice since I have had the phone the fix is just exiting multi-tasking and re-entering it. Also so times I will see the icon for a different program then what is up on multi-tasking I see pandora icon on a picture of Maps
Sometimes (not consistent) when awakening/unlocking the phone, the screen is pure white. When I touch the home button, the normal home screen appears and the phone works normally. Any thoughts as to what is the problem and its fix?

smitty,
this falls under the OS needing to force close/aggressively manage your memory.
do you have live wallpapers? or a lot of widgets/apps/shortcuts on your screen? do you have a lot of multiple screens? all of this takes up memory and the OS is closing out things that it needs to in the background to conserve memory for running/in focus apps.
there is a tab in settings called "storage". you can click in there and free up phone and storage memory. I would suggest you do this and make sure you have as many files, etc as you can on your external SD card. also please smoke over this thread for other discussions.

Thank you, I went to 'storage' and cleared cache apps in phone. Is it suggested that I move apps to SD card (app2sd since not rooted)?
I have three widgets on home page: [sound] Profile, Mobile (turn 3G on/off), and Brightness Level (app). (Not sure that last is a Widget.) Standard Wallpaper.
On my EVO 4G LTE, sometimes my internet and YouTube app just won't load. I'll try searching something on google, and then I get a blank white screen with just my task bar at the top of the screen.
Sometimes ill open up my YouTube app, and my channel feed will appear, but when I click on q video, all I get it a black screen.
This two problems don't necessarily occur together, but the only way I can seem to fix it, is restarting the phone. Until it happens again...
Anyone else having this problem or know of a permanent fix?
Thank you for any feedback

white screen issues sounds like multitasking problems so i have moved your comments here. the OS is pretty aggressive in app management. I would advise you to smoke over this thread and read up on others' experiences.
to help, if you have live wallpapers, lots of apps on homescreens, lots of running apps, try and remove some of those. also go to the storage section in the settings menus and free up some ram memory...
I don't really understand why this would be a multitasking issue (although I agree with others in this thread, multitask sucks when it reloads everything)
Usually when this problem occurs, it happens when I pull my phone out of my pocket after its been there awhile. I unlock the screen and type into google to look something up, and then nothing happens.
Also, I have a standard wallpaper, and only 8 apps and the HTC clock/weather widget thing on my homepage.
And I did as you said and cleared my cache and moved my 11 apps to my phone storage. (I hardly have anything at all on my phone)
The Following User Says Thank You to TrickayTiger For This Useful Post:
black screen, white screen are both signs of low memory, multitasking and ICS management issues other have spoken about in this thread and it mainly falls under multitasking.
clearing cache and remove temp files, etc will help the OS. also check your downloads and if you have a lot of downloaded files, these will also add up.
the white and black screens you see are from the OS loading apps into main memory. make sure you close out "recent apps" as well.

I still occasionally open to a "white screen" which is corrected by tapping the home button.
I have cleared cache, and storage in settings shows the following:
Internal storage: total 2.09 & Available 1.55
Phone Storage: total 9.93 & Available 8.78
Total Space: total 12.96 & Available 8.9
Seems like I have adequate free space, but why do I get the "white pages" when I awaken the phone?

Multitasking issues.
The numbers that you are looking at are for storage - the issue is what is happening in ram memory.
If you want to try out rooting and tweaking your phone, that can be solved.
See our root forum for instructions.
Otherwise, the latest update rolling out for another One X variant is said to correct this for many. No idea on schedule, but you can look forward to that.

With my LTEvo, when I awaken it from slumber, I get a white screen. Then when I tap the home screen button, the normal home screen appears. What is happening? [Stock phone NOT ROOTED.] (Have about 60 apps installed, including those with "bloatware".)
Thanks for your insights (and corrective actions).
I'm considering getting the Evo 4G LTE and I was wondering if the crippled multitasking issue has been resolved. I've read in some places that the 4.0.4 update and other OTA updates have freed up some memory for multitasking, so that apps do not reload as often when returning to them, but I'm having trouble finding a definitive answer on this.

I see a few phones are coming out now with 2 gigs of ram. HTC is making a DROID DNA for Verizon with 2 gigs of ram 5 inch screen looks really nice. I bet we get something like that next year. But for now I'm happy with my EVO LTE and won't get a new phone till I'm due for my upgrade probably. But I know a couple people with SIII's that love it. That would be my 2nd choice of a phone. But this is my 3rd EVO and I like sense.

This is far improved in the last update and you can improve it still further if you're of a mind to get root access and add a few customizations.

play store updates result in unresponsive phone.
My phone has become unresponsive recently. Texts come in, but are unreadable. Just a blank write screen. Trying to dial someone yields a blank screen as well. My only recourse is to reboot the phone. When the phone reboots, there are always play store app update available that didn't show up before. Coincidence? (I already did a factory reset and turned off Facebook sync, so I don't think that's it)
Thanks!

I'm starting to see that every time the phone acts up, there are updates waiting in the play store. If I open pay store, and allow the apps to update, the blank screen issue goes away until another update pops up.

Oh boy.... now I'm confused. I did some research on the HTC forums, and found this posted by an HTC person there:
"Unfortunately, there is no way to move apps that came pre-installed to your phone onto your SD card. If you have downloaded apps, then you can go into Settings> Apps> All and then tap into the apps you have downloaded. If they are already on your SD card, they will have an option to “Move to Internal Storage,” but if not just tap on the option for “Move to Phone Storage” and it will send it to your SD card.
{Snip}.
Also, keep in mind that only Class 2 SD cards are supported in our devices, and other classes may function abnormally or not at all."

Ill admit I haven't read the majority of this thread to see what was said, but that's the interpretation I got from the quote you had from the HTC site
So you're saying the EarlyMon is wrong? He says it's all internal.
Let's review your question.

Internal storage typically refers to the user accessible /data partition where apps normally install.
Phone storage refers to the internal /sdcard partition located on the same 16 GB eMMC flash memory chip.
Apps that move other apps from /data to /sdcard were originally intended for small /data space phones to move to an external sd card. If you have a total of 2 GB free (for example) of your 16 GB, for example, after moving apps, you will still have at most 2 GB free, maybe less depending on the apps. You're just moving things around on the same 16 GB.
The 16 GB chip being eMMC flash memory type is important for understanding for two reasons. One, it is ultra high speed, and two, it's like an external flash memory sd card.
The same controller chip that controls your built in 16 GB controls your external sd card, and despite what an HTC employee said, that controller is a state of the art type device.
Not only does this phone support class 10 external sd cards, they will perform to the full potential of individual chip, which will vary a bit. They also support a wider range of cards that fit the socket.
The spec sheet for this phone says it supports 32 GB sdhc type sd card. A great many of us are using 64 GB sdxc cards.
The first Evo 4G from 2 years ago was shipped with a class 2 card. The Evo 3D shipped last year with a class 4 card. No doubt the HTC employee meant well but was simply saddled with poor charts and training materials, not their fault.
Class 10 means that the system supports 10 MB/sec (MBps) reads on burst.
Not only does this phone fully support that, as the following test graph from SD Tools proves, I am exceeding class 20 performance.
BTW, I work in r&d in the semiconductor industry, so I am fully qualified in the area of what chips can do what.
Hope this clarifies, if not, apologies, ask again. Please trust our other staffers here, they're more than qualified to give you the straight dope on what you can and cannot do.
Cheers!

Its built-in storage includes the Android-standard /sdcard folder that any Android app can access.
In the past, that was a separate part that the user could plug and unplug. Not so on extended storage phones.
This is the only One X model that also includes a micro sd card socket. When a user plugs a card in there, it is known to the user, and any advanced apps that understand this scheme, as /sdcard2.
For convenience, it's also known by the shortcut, /sdcard/ext_sd.
For the Linux-savvy, the actual system mount points are found under /mnt, let's leave that discussion reserved for the root forum. The sdcard0 and sdcard1 monikers are also accurate, but better used in root discussions as well.
Hope this helps!

I am having a problem with my EVO 4G LTE randomly kicking me off the internet and going back to the home screen. Sometimes when I reopen internet explorer my page is still there and other times all pages have closed. Also my screen widgets stop working and I have to restart my phone to make them work again.
Phone is not rooted.
sounds like the OS on your device is force closing due to low memory or other multitasking issues. So lets continue the discussion here.
What have you done to try and troubleshoot?
how long has this been going on?
did you install or uninstall anything prior to this issue?
what is your memory status? phone/internal storage?
have you closed any unnecessary tabs in the browser?
what happens if you stream from , say, youtube? hiccups? or does it stream fine?
does this issue happen on wifi AS WELL AS cellular?

my lte has done this a few times, and when rebooted the play store update is waiting. I took me until the second time this happen(which was roughly a month or 2 ago) that it was trying to update the play store.

I'm convinced that this is a play store issue. I've been in safe mode all week, and the only time the phone black screens or white screens me is when an update is waiting. Once I do update, the phone performs correctly.
The HTC EVO 4G LTE is Sprint's version of the HTC One X. It comes with all the same specs, except for the processor, internal storage and radios (includes LTE). And aesthetics are also significantly different.
