Data connectivity issues with the EVO 4G LTE
Im not sure if its sprint or my phone but almost 70 percent of the time I cannot send text messages, connect 3g, and when I make phone calls I get nothing but busy signals. When I send a text I just get a triangle and a explamation mark thing. When people call me it just sends them straight to my voicemail.I am out of town but where I had 3g connection yesterday at times all day today I had nothing. Does anyone have a clue whats the deal?

Sprint may be working on the network in your location, or maybe a ntwork issue.
Have you tried to do a PRL update and a Data Profile update?
Go under Settings / System Updates / Update PRL Do the PRL first.
Then do the Profile . It might fix your network issues.

I'm having no issue with calls or texts in fact the call quality is amazing.... But the 3g in my area is amazingly slow all the sudden.. Sometimes I can't even connect I am going to contact sprint tomorrow... I'm thinking it's simply heavy traffic in my area.. (ocean city new jersey) bc of memorial Day weekend... There are thousands and thousands of people that come to this area for the weekend as you can imagine... After I talk to sprint tomorrow I wll leave a report.
--
3g is back to normal for me today..gues yesterday was just a slow day in my area..
Is it just me or is facebook/instagram/Twitter very slow... The browser and tapatalk are fast.. but for some strange reason those 3 apps are very slow...anyone else experiencing this?

Reception Issues? Concerned about radio signal strength?
After having it for one full day of work, and now the long weekend, I have some concerns and wonder if anyone else is seeing the same issues?
Friday the 25th. unplugged at 6am and off to work. Battery did fine, did not charge till I went to bed at 10pm.
Saturday the 26th. phone is getting quite warm, data connection goes on and off at random and the internet is TERRIBLY slow. Can't seem to hold a cell signal either. Battery life needed to give it a quick charge a couple times during the day.
Sunday the 27th. left at 7am. by 2pm I was down to 38% with very little use. A few text messages and a about 10 emails. Phone was very warm again. Signal was not great, but could not get internet connection at all. Data turning off and on again, at random.
Is it possible that there is an issue with Sprint in my area?
Do I have a phone issue? Or a sprint issue? Or is it me?

Use Open Signal Maps to see what sort of tower signal you have and if you are tower hopping instead of locking on to just one.
Please post back results.
I hope that I'm wrong, but your description fits a phone with a bad RF section.
Thanks EarlyMon.....I installed open signal maps.....I don't seem to be locking to any tower in particular.....but going between 2 or 3 for just a few seconds each. I will look into it more later today and post back.....right now its 85 and sunny....need to get a trader vics rum and diet coke, and head to the pool for a few hours.

Wow, my reception stinks! That app says I'm getting no more than 40% from three different towers. Can I get an airwave?

Unless you have weird tower activity there due to the holiday, that's highly suggestive of a bad 3G radio or antenna, if you never had a problem with a previous phone there.
And happy Memorial Day!

Maybe. How's your performance otherwise, in other locations? Compared to your perception of previous phones?
Are you tower hopping?
What's your signal in -dBm?

I just did the speed test on open signal.... ping: 380ms......download: 540kbps......upload: 589 kbps
I don't know what that means..... :-)
Signal strength is bouncing between 53%-64%....with an average of 61%
Signal is -87dBm
I dont see any red flags there (pings a little high, but not a concern)... Those are all fairly solid numbers. My signal is usually about -87dBm in my house, too.

Actually, it's been pretty bad, but I've been assigned to a notoriously poor area signal wise for the last couple days at work. I'm getting one to two bars at home, which is normal, I think.

I had similar issues with data dropping on my Ltevo and I finally had enough so I called Sprint and they walked me through another activation. So far it seems to have fixed it. Plus I got my MSL.

I had a ping in the 1000's, but I live in a heavily wooded area. Never ran this program before to know if the OG Evo did the same. I usually only have 2-3 bars max at home. Mine was bouncing a few towers also.. hmm.. Now you guys have me worried.lol

My 3g data has been horrible...but only when using facebook Twitter and intagram...tapatalk and google search/browser are up to par...I'm going to call sprint tomorrow .. I just wanted to wait and see how it was after all the shoobees left town...I live in a beach town and everyone migrates here for memorial day weekend...A LOT of people

I'm having the same issue with my data. It keeps dropping at random times. Does sprint know to just do a reactivation? Or will they just tell me to go to a store? I would rather they try over the phone .
has there been any word on when they flip the lte switch. I've accepted the fact that 3G is gonna be sketchy, and only use it on demand if even necessary. is lte coinciding with official release date?

I don't seem to be receiving most calls; they don't even show up as missed calls. It just doesn't ring and apparently goes to voice mail. If the voice mail is left then I get that. I don't think it's a coverage or network issue because I'm getting coverage just fine. It's very weird. Any clues? I have gotten some calls, so I know it's not impossible.

Check the contact record of the ones that left VM. see if any are set to goto Voicemail. I know we had that on the original Evo, now I only see "Block Caller' as an option. Other than the typical reboot or check PRL, that's the only thing that pops into my mind
Been getting calls and texts just fine.... I was actually amazed at how clear the call quality was... Really impressed... I can stand next to a running bus at work and the person on the other end can hear me.... Thats very important... My workplace is very loud
It's so weird how the call goes through one time, but not the next. Calling from my same home phone at home, one time will go through just fine and another it won't ring at all. I updated PRL and Profile and it's not set to block.
Otherwise I love the device. Hopefully it resolves itself.
the phone is new. sprint is updating towers across the country. this is their first LTE device. there will be bugs. you guys and gals are on the bleeding edge of mobile phone tech right now, so you have to roll with the punches. it will get better.
i would suggest if you are still seeing these issues after a solid week of use, give sprint a shout and have them troubleshoot. could be a defective phone, could be intermittent issues with the network--only time will tell.
once i get my MSL im going to chance my slot cycle index.
Ok.... so now I am sitting at Bob Evans having coffee, and I can't get enough signal to run a speed test. I show 3 to 4 bars of signal, but can't run a speed test. I hate to say it but..... I miss my MoPho. That phone could hold a signal amazingly well. I am going to call Sprint this morning and see about getting an RF Box test as EarlyMon suggested.I have also found out that my voice to text does not work. I tried for 10 minutes to send a text message saying "I am going for coffee" and it did nothing. Perhaps after all my years of good luck with phones .....my luck has run out.

Wondering the same. My wife EVO LTE is having somewhat similar issues and I'm wondering if a reactivation would solve.
Exact same issues since Thursday arrival. my old evo 4g is 3 times faster than this phone. have a feeling there is an issue out there. Service can't open the phones for 90 days plus they don't even know how to work on them yet. Believe there is an issue with the antena's. and thus far, the battery has been less than impressive. I swiched back to my original evo 4g last night so i could have a functioning phone back.

you could have a bad phone... bad radio.
calls and text work on the CDMA network.. not 3G network.
so you can have 3G data, but bad calls and text..and vise versa.
you said you are out of town.. maybe the location you are in does not have sprint networks and you are roaming on someone else's network.
I called Sprint and was on the phone for about an hour. We tried to do a reactivation but I pretty much lost my data connection before that happened. Pretty much now I have to bring it in
Not to mention when I go into settings now. My mobile connection tab says disconnected. I turn it off and then on but it won't connect.

Reason: update
Just to update.... Since the town has cleared out with the holiday weekend passing.... My data speeds are back up to par.. Maybe even better thanmthe old 3vo.. So happy that this issue seemed to just fix itself... Emails are coming in instantaneously.... And browsing is fast even Facebook twitter and Instsgram are alottt faster... Seems like it was just due to the network being clogged... Hopefully everything straightens out for everyone else!
3G turning on and off randomly (possible local network issues)
So I picked up my device saturday and have loved it so far. Just today though Ive started having a weird problem and browsing around on the XDA forums and sprint community there are others with the issue. I was aware of the wireless problems but am now having an issue with 3G. I will be using the phone in a static place with full bars of cell service and 3g screaming along then all of a sudden have 3G drop.
I've tried switching to CDMA only, switching wireless settings like people recommend and rebooted the phone several times. Updated PRL and profile several times also along with the reboots. Issue is still occuring. Occurs when using apps or browsing the internet and has started getting pretty annoying. Haven't timed the outages but it seems every 5 minutes or so of using the phone. Sometimes it will occur when I unlock it and sometimes it will occur 1-5 minutes later.
Any ideas? I'm tempted to return this phone and go back to my Hero or swap for another Evo. Really dissapointing since this is an amazing phone =(.
i would absolutely return the phone to your place of purchase and get a replacement.
also not that since sprint is undergoing network upgrades across the country, you could be in the middle of it. i would contact sprint with your zip code and ask if there are any updates or upgrades to their network going on in your area.
if you have done all you could and you are still having the issue on a brand new phone, best case is to return. diagnosing cellular problems on the internet is difficult.
ive had the phone since may 24 and have had no issues with cellular coverage in the area i frequent.
My phone was downloading on 3g just fine. I have had data up to 1.5 mbps, but now I have no data transfer at all. I bought it at Bestbuy, but was wondering if i should go to a sprint store to get the radio checked out?
Even with 5 bars on the phone I get no data transfer get error code 67 and 1012. I want to back up my apps in case I have to get qa new one. Whats the easiest way?? Should I transfer them to a sd card or backup on my computer?? What is the easiest way to back up to a computer??
Thanks for any info
By the way my calls are crystal clear.

Error code 67 means that Sprint isn't providing data.
They sometimes do that as a security check.
With the screwups in their accounting system, this is no surprise. They have a lot of confusion in their system as to what the Evo 4G LTE is right now. (I have run into it on other phones.)
Your phone is fine.
Dial *2, follow the menu to contact Sprint, answer truthfully, and they will fix it in a jiffy.
This is not the big deal that it feels like or seems to be, honest.

I am working nights, so while I was taking a nap my wife called sprint. I guess they tried everything they could on the phone with no help. I'm going to bring it in to a sprint store tomorrow. I hope they can fix it without losing all my apps. I called a sprint store and they say it is a known issue with activating them. Sounds likethey can fix it.

Promise, it's an activation issue, and it's very well known.
Surprising that they couldn't understand that over the phone.
Best luck, please keep us posted!

Well....after a few minor things....my LTevo is working GREAT! I had been experiencing severe battery drain for the first few days. Found out that it was more than likely a tower issue. Lately, I have been just turning off my data connection when I am not using it. Now I get home from 12-14 hours of being at work and still have 60% battery left. I just put the little "data widget" on one of my screens. Then I manually turn it on occasionally to check emails and so on.
I'm very happy with the LTevo.

First of all - Thanks for the merge. For some reason I couldnt find this thread with a google search and forum search is hanging when I try to use it =/.
Wanted to follow up on my post from earlier:
Mark me as resolved. I contacted Shawn H at sprint and he had me power off the phone then power back on the phone while he was on the line. He cleared out some kind of error that was occuring with the PRL update. I have not had an issue since he performed this reset.
He knew exactly what needed to be done so either there was an error showing on his side or this is a common issue. I would urge you to contact sprint through their phone or chat service and explain that your 3G is bad and you're dropping ever so often.
Spoke too soon. Back to the old issue. Two chats with sprint today and neither has fixed it. Problem returned immediately after the resets today. Was basically told they couldnt do anything including getting me a replacement by the "advanced specialist" (She didnt even know the battery was not removable on the 4G LTE...). I will be going down to the sprint store tomorrow it sounds like to see how they will fix it.
Went to a sprint store near my house and they fixed the known activation issue in about 10 minutes. I love the phone so far except the starting issues I have had.
