that leads me to think.. it is all marketing.

It's marketing of an equalizer.

Everyone talks about them, but until you use one, you may not realize how bad these phones sound.

I found Beats an improvement over stock nothing and I find DSP Manager with my own preferences for eq an improvement over Beats.

But had HTC not included the clever marketing, the vast majority would never know what an eq could do or if they liked it.

And despite criticism from purists, the Beats eq is exactly what a lot of people prefer.

Visit root forums for other phones - Beats is a sought after mod in a great many of them. Despite good eq software being available.

PS - take your earbuds to a Sprint store or Best Buy, and try the FM radio on this phone, Beats on and off. Tell me what you think about that included for free.

also on top of what Earlymon said, a lot of people dont really know how to use an eq right. beats does the eq for you, if you listen to the bass kind of music, just pop your buds in and the phone does the rest!

when Beats was first announced and that they were going to package Beats headphones and the phone would be equipped to take advantage of the headphones. I was excited and happy to finally get an android phone that was a great music player. It was one of my MUST-HAVE requirements for my next phone.

then they dropped the headphone..
then i read it the software was only an EQ..

I am so over over beats. I no longer consider it a point of interest.

This phone sounds great, and they are improving.

Respectfully recommend that you root your next phone so that you can install DSP Manager - it's quite good.

Not much you can do there as the OG EVO's DAC just isn't nearly as good as the new EVO or Iphone4. Software can only take you so far unfortunately.
