I noticed something, actually happened to catch it, last night which might have something to do with my battery problem. I have GPS turned off but noticed the GPS icon in the status bar was on trying to get a fix while inside last night. Not sure what turned it on particularly since I have it turned off. Anyone else notice this or have any ideas? I factory reset last week and haven't installed much back. Anyone have any ideas?

Weather or location setting in browser or other apps would cause that to light up previously.

Use GSam Battery Monitor to see if your GPS has been on much.

Thanks, trying to figure out where. Thought I had everything turned off for GPS.

I did get my wife an Evo for Christmas and her battery life is where mine was. It's been on 1d 5h currently and at 67%. She doesn't use it as much as I but still..... It had ICS out of the box and had to do the JB upgrade before started setting it up. She does have the navigation issue though, force closes every few minutes.

The unbranded, International One X has already had another smaller, post JB update to address some of the issues folks had after the initial release. Our update rolled out circa the same time as yours so hopefully there's one in the works for you guys shortly too.

Well I had the android.process.acore message after the update and ended up having to do a factory reset on the 13th of last month I think it was. That fixed the problem but this morning the message came back in full force. I haven't changed anything on my phone lately, not sure why it would come back out of the blue when I haven't seen it once after the reset.

Found dedicated thread - sorry for the dup

OK so I cleared my cache and it didn't fix anything. HTC wants me to do a factory data reset and gave me a link to HTC sync manager, but that only syncs music, photos (basically data on the phone. It doesn't sync settings, apps, basically anything I have done to customize my phone. Is this correct. I told them the only way I know of to backup my device is to root it. Will I basically start from zero if I do a factory data reset on my device?? Would it negate what I am trying to do if I pull my SD card first?? Thanks for any info.

Yah, I know of the 2x1 (two wide by 1 tall) widget with animation-

There previously was a 1x2 (one wide by 2 tall), but since updating to Jellybean, it is gone.

Also, regarding "animation", I was referring not to the widgets themselves (which all seem to have animation) but to the animation across the entire screen (generally when unlocking the screen after a long period or something).

EDIT: This apparently isn't working on JB.

There's also this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420351

but I don't know if it works with JellyBean.

SMS can be backed up to Google or the SD card using any number of apps from the Play Store. If you can mount the internal SD card while in JB, you should be able to back that up to a computer.

I tried it, didn't resolve the issue. I have been tracking all the threads related to the Navigation crashing, no fix yet. It's widely known. In fact, I checked for reviews of Maps in Google Play, filtering by just this phone, and there's lots of feedback from people for whom Navigation started crashing right after the update.

Hm, sorry about that. Maybe the app hasn't been updated to be compatible with JB.

No worries. Thanks for trying to help

so I decided to just do a factory data reset, but when I go to settings then to storage I do not find a factory data reset. Is it under something else. I searched around quite a bit. There is an erase phone storage, but for the life of me I can't find the Factory data reset.

I used MyBackup Pro before I did a factory reset a week or so ago. It worked for me, restored SMS/MMS and a few other things. Didn't restore settings, did that myself. Kind of a PITA but figured it would be safer that way. All my pics/music/etc are on the SD card.

The real pain for me doing the factory resets is contacts. I have most everything in Exchange but somehow a few get put into gmail and the phone. Must not be paying close attention when I create them on the phone. Wish there was an easy way to sync/dedup all contacts across all accounts. Basically, make all accounts have all the contacts so I would have multiple "backups" in multiple locations. Then if I make a change to one contact in one account have it update all.

Factory reset should be under backup and reset

I am on cm10 though or I'd send a screenshot

I believe it can also be done through the stock recovery

OK so I had to do it like this

If for some reason you cannot reset your phone using the settings, you will also be able to do it using the phone keys following the next steps:

1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the volume down button, and then press the power key.

2. When the phone’s display turns on, release the power key and volume buttons.

3. Use the volume button to select Factory Reset, and then press power. All data on your phone will be deleted.

Now that my phone is a big blank slate how do I get my google stuff back on it.

Nevermind got it. I was worried for a bit there.

Of course there are some great options out there for better, all encompassing back ups and I don't think otherwise. I just wanted to throw these ideas out there in case they were not considered/part of the common knowledge. Seems like I see many folks looking to third party solutions before considering the great (simple/specific) back up tools shipped with the phone.

Quote:
You can always use MyBackup from the Play Store to backup your device settings, etc.EDIT: This apparently isn't working on JB.

There's also this:

but I don't know if it works with JellyBean.

SMS can be backed up to Google or the SD card using any number of apps from the Play Store. If you can mount the internal SD card while in JB, you should be able to back that up to a computer.
SMS can be backed up and restored easily and efficiently, to the MicroSD card or e-mail, within the Stock HTC Messages application. No extra applications needed. This awesome feature was added with Sense 4.

Open messages -> Menu -> Backup/Restore SMS -> Back up -> (follow the prompts)
(won't back up MMS, but that content can easily be saved and moved to the MicroSD manually)

Contacts can be imported and exported (backed up and restored) easily and efficiently, to the MicroSD card or email, within the Stock HTC People application. No extra applications needed. This feature has been a part of Sense for a while.

Open People -> Menu -> Manage contacts -> Import/Export contacts -> (follow the prompts)

People application can even have multiple phonebooks, so you could have a phonebook for phone contacts, one for Outlook/Exchange contacts, and one for anything else neatly backed up to MicroSD.

And then there is the ubiquitous Google account, I think most people use this as their master contacts list. As it syncs with the phone and outlook/other contacts can be imported into it relatively easily.
I know what you mean though about wanting to have a universal sync. Especially when contacts are sometimes added in haste or if there is personal/business cross over and specific contacts don't always get a good follow up or manual add to all sources.

This battery thing is really strange. After all the short days yesterday went long, over 50% left and on for 14 hours. This morning started off fine with 3.5 hours and still 89% then all of a sudden it started getting hot and battery life plummeted. GSAM didn't really show anything in particular. I had a couple texts/phone call right before the heat started. Went ahead and rebooted the phone doing a soft reset (long power button hold) and it seems to be ok again.

Got my wife an Evo 4g LTE for Christmas and her battery life is way out there. Had 27% left last night after being on 2 days 4 hours per stock power app. Then again she doesn't really get any texts and few phone calls.

Well, the only issue I've had since updating is the missing microphone on my text keyboard. Sure would like that back.

Is anyone else having GPS issues? Seems like the location services does not work. For example if I got to the yellow pages website and click use current location it errors out. It gives me "Unable to detect your location. Manually input your location or try again." I should mention this is in the stock browser.

Just a thought. Trying clearing your maps cache and making sure you have the proper app associations.

I had an issue for the first time today trying to find POI's by name as I was traveling out of state. I was in a fringe are for coverage so at first I blamed it on that but I was eventually able to find the same location via a browser and Google so I'm not sure why Google search was having a hard time finding the same location from their maps interface. Unfortunately it was a very busy day for me and I wasn't able to further test the situation. When I wasn't at important meetings I was hurtling across several states at (or above in most cases) highway speeds. This did seem different from the issue others had reported so I'm not sure it wasn't just a Google servers issue as Voice and Talk seemed to be having issues for me as well as those back home that normally don't have issues so I'm unsure if it's related or not. The more pressing issue for me is that no combination of settings seemed to allow me to roam onto data networks for a majority of my travels. Pretty frustrating.

Great, I used the RUU and now I have the prox issues :/

I've spent the past hour and a half chatting with technical support. First online, then on the phone, got escalated up to level 2, then level 2 was escalating me to her supervisor, when I got disconnected.

The new lady I'm talking to doesnt know what a PRL is, put me on hold to do research and now claims this phone isnt equipped with one.

Default Facebook subscribed pages push notifications not working since Jelly Bean update

My push notifications still work for messages, posts on my wall and such, but ever since I upgraded to Jelly Bean I no longer receive notifications for the pages for which I've selected the "Get Notifications" option. My livelihood partly depends on knowing when certain pages have made posts, and so I'm forced to refresh half a dozen tabs every few minutes until I can figure out why my phone won't notify me any more.

I've checked every single box I can find on Facebook.com and the Android app pertaining to notifications, and yet they're still not working. The only problem I can see is that when I log into my notifications settings on the web, it says "Some notifications" despite that everything on my Android app is checked.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be? I'm going crazy trying to figure it out here. I'm even considering buying an older Android to keep charged just for Facebook push notifications for page updates.

Default Question about MTP

If i would have known that the usb plug in mode would change if would have held off on switching to jellybean for as long as possible. Why did sprint/htc/google change the usb options anyways?

My question is, i just bought a new tv, and could plug my phone into the tv and play my music files. Now when i plug it in it says cant access usb storage and it says that on both the disk drive option and when i switch it to they htc sync option. Is there anyway or another option i can choose so that it will play my music, picture, and video files again?

Would rooting it be an option?

Rooting would almost certainly be an option. If nothing else it would give you more options to try.

The other thing would be to wait for the next ota which should fix all of these bugs

When entering text on websites (textareas), Swype behaves oddly, capitalizing every word and sometimes leaving out automatic spacing. Anyone else have this issue?

Default Proximity sensor doesn't work right during calls

Hi, all! I just got the LTEvo last Thursday. During calls the screen either stays black when I take the phone away from my ear or the screen stays on during the call! I took it back to Sprint, but the blasted thing started working perfectly after a hard reset. Once I used the phone as I was heading for home, though, the proximity sensor started acting up again! This behavior seems to happen on and off. The erratic behavior seems to happen when I am in a place where the lighting is dim or, in some cases, in indirect sunlight. When I'm in a room or area with bright light, all is well. This started happening even before I got the update to Jelly Bean, but it got worse after the OTA.

I know this is a known issue. I've read up on it. Has anyone come up with a fix? I really don't want to start over with a new phone only to find the new phone has the same problem! I can live with it if I must. But if I can fix it, that would be cool.

Thanks to anyone that can give any input.

Its a bug introduced by the latest jellybean update. There is a rumored fix being worked join by HTC

If you're interested, most rooted ROMs have a reported fix already

Cool! Thanks for the quick response. I don't know if I'm gonna root this time. But then again, I say that with every phone I get when I first get it. This one seems like a keeper.

Thanks again.

With the latest Google Navigation issue on the EVO LTE running JB, I called it quits... Too many weird quirks with the phone now. Easily the most unreliable EVO to date. I'm going to the LG Optimus G... hopefully HTC can make some much needed changes for their models this year.

Just to report HTC told me that they are already working on many fixes to many of the issues that customers have been reporting from the Jelly Bean update. They still have no ETA though.

So should I take my phone in to Best Buy or just wait until an update is released for my issue with the proximity sensor?

Just curious, how many people with issues have tried rooting? Did that fix the issues, or do some of them exist in the custom ROMs, as well?

Posted this in the Bluetooth thread but it seems to be a JB issue as well....

The issue I have with BT now is the new voicemail app no longer plays sound through my BT connection. Music streaming and the phone work fine but when I play a voicemail there is silence and nothing comes out of the phone speaker either. I have to disconnect the phone from BT and listen to the VM's through the phone speaker. This worked just fine on pre JB. I have paired the phone several times and deleted it from my car radio all together and readded it to see if that would fix it and nada. Any ideas?

Default EVO LTE JB Working Great. Part II

I bought my wife an EVO LTE when they came out, and she has no issues with JB. She is a light user.

I bought an EVO LTE for me on Dec 15. I upgraded to JB right away, and it ended up having a light leak on the screen. It worked great at first, then had issues updating weather. Everything else was fine, but since there was a hardware issue, I could exchange it for another EVO at Sam's Club. The 2nd came with ICS. I used it as ICS for a day, then upgraded to JB. The second unit works like butter. I love it. I don't love the Sammy G3.

Why won't HTC get behind the EVO with marketing and software? Sometimes I wonder if I bought the flawed machine, but I really prefer the build quality of the EVO. I prefer Sense. The supply chain is forgetting about the EVO, but with 4G service all around me and Jelly Bean, I find this EVO rocks. Love it. Has HTC, Sprint and the market given up? I'm staying stock Operating System. So far, I believe this EVO LTE is still the superior android device available today. If no one promotes it, or refreshes the market letting people know how blazing fast it is with 4G, and how well it can be with JB, I fear HTC EVO is another Palm. I was a Palm guy, too. KoD (kiss of death)?

This might be a dumb question: Have you turned Auto-sync on? (Settings > Accounts & Sync > Auto sync, and then go down to weather and select the update schedule)

Does anyone else have a problem not getting a SMS notification when receiving a new SMS/MMS message? I'm using the stock messaging app and I cannot get the notifications to work. They work fine with GoSMS, but I would prefer to use the stock messaging app. I've checked and rechecked my settings, rebooted, and I cannot figure it out.

Thanks for the help.

I was having trouble with no/spotty notifications after the last ICS update but JB has pretty much fixed the issue for me. I use the stock messaging app along with SMSPopup for repeat notifications until I ack them.

I figured it out. I had a setting in GoSMS that was enabled that shouldn't have been.
