here is a post EM (EarlyMon for those who dont know) made back in the EVO 3D forums. It speaks about a MAJOR update at the time for the evo 3D, but the same tips in this post apply here:

Typical major updates in Android will often leave cache areas stale, dirty, and tangled.
This can inhibit proper operation of update features -- and can even lead to the appearance of old things that were working to be broken now.
For best results, save as much as possible (consider MyBackup Pro, for example), and perform a factory data reset.
If in doubt, ok to wait - but at the first sign of issues, best to give that a go.
Since July 2010, I have never updated without doing a factory data reset.
Others on the forum will attest that this is the way to go.
Not an HTC issue, not a Sprint issue - an Android-wide issue.

At the heart of Android is a thing called the Dalvik Virtual Machine. It's what your apps run under. And it has its own cache. And updates tend to never clear that out.
That's the main issue.
Rooters know to always clear this on rom updates.
Factory data reset is your way to get it done properly if not rooted.

Ran the update today and did anyone else have it change the look of the swype keyboard? I think the HTC one changed too but can't really remember what it looked like. Think the clock buttons look slightly different but again couldn't swear to it.
Texts are definitely sending faster but still have intermittent signal and after updating still no 4G on the southside of Atlanta with multiple towers shown on their map as being LTE planned. Will check at work tomorrow since I'll be mostly on the northside of town and see if and where they have any signal. Unlike most I'm more curious than upset I don't have service yet. The 3G service has been plenty fast although I have found some serious dead spots within Atlanta, some JUST outside of Buckhead and Midtown.

Yes I noticed that too, it made the keys skinnier - but now they've changed back again to the way it looked before. I usually restart my phone every couple days just for the heck of it and that might be why it changed back?

Here are the changes highlighted by Sprint
• Google security updates
• Wifi disconnect issue
• Time zone issue
• Google Wallet fix
• Side loaded video pause issue
• Random power cycling issue
• Pioneer Bluetooth Car Kit connection issu
• Gallery app crash
• Calendar reminder (all day even time) issue
Now that you mention it... My phone is no longer asking me for the time zone (that was anoying)... I did notice the side loading issue I'm going to test that now!

So pretty much, backup -> factory reset -> update ?
Looks like Sprint is pushing an update to fix the wifi and wallet. It kind-of surprised me because according to the web, it wasn't being pushed until tomorrow. Such it is, now to wait for my phone to come back on and see what's fixed and what's newly broken.

IT was my understanding wallet and were fixed in the update over a week ago. This update could be the data related update that was rumored earlier this week

Maybe not where, but we know the means and we know the desired targets ... through bs legal action directed to impair the consumers of Android products.
My hope is that they fix the LTE connection issues. Supposedly the GNex update helped tremendously. I heard we would get it this week...anybody got any info?
Our 4G lte radio is already on by default. So I'm not sure what that articles referring to
Yeah it's on, but it won't connect to LTE without toggling the mode. (CDMA/LTE - CDMA only - CDMA/LTE) Have you connected to 4G-LTE yet Rxpert? Did you have to toggle to get it?
and..........There appears to be evidence for Multitasking fix.

-Mutitasking is basically fixed now
-After a fresh reboot, I've got almost 330MB of free RAM
-Browser seems faster
-Homescreens don't lag
-Sense didn't crash after gameplay
-Recent apps button can be modified for menu button
All in all, for someone who likes Sense but just wanted the stupid crap fixed, this pretty much does that.

1.) Sense is SUPER SMOOTH now. It's 60% faster for me, and this is with a static wallpaper. The transistion effect when moving between home screens is more prominent now.
2.) As others have said, you can now change the settings for the recent apps button. You can either choose to tap it for the menu button, or long hold it for the menu button.
3.) The OS is much smoother now. There is no delay when picking up calls, etc.

The lack of the menu button (despite that button showing up on many apps as the "action" button on screen...or whatever it's called), is one of the things that bugged me a little, when testing out the LTEvo and SGS 3 side-by-side. I hope this update comes to the LTEvo as well:
Even though many developers keep their apps up to date, there are still some apps that I have that are not necessarily set up for "ICS," so the menu button was always and still remains my friend when trying to get to the settings area for an app (rather than having to search around for one that's on screen and might be in different locations on different apps).

I finally have enough testing to say that the OTA did seem to improve my bluetooth performance outdoors. The connection to my headphones is much more reliable.

Has anyone seen battery life drop after the update? I just got this phone a couple of days ago, and today the notice about the update showed up. I thought I remember seeing a few people complaining about the battery after the update on one forum or another.
Or with this talk of another update, should I just wait for that (even if it means installing both at the same time)?

If you are planning on rooting, do it instead of taking the update, see details in the root forum threads.
Otherwise, I haven't seen any battery issues and I found it overall positive.
Saw this post on another forum where the guy claims an update that begins tomorrow. Anybody got any info on this, can we confirm this is real? Supposedly info came from a Sprint employee...

If you took the its you can always root using HTC dev. However, you can't get s-off and HTC placed many restrictions on what you can accomplish with HTC dev on the New hboot.
We will always be able to root this phone, but that doesn't mean you should ever take the OTA

Yeah when I took the Ota I had no intentions to root but I'm getting tired of
Watching all the fun from the sidelines.. The htcdev method would be the one click method in the all things root stickies. Right? Would I still be able to flash roms and such? I'm not sure I care to be s-off. I'm still doing my research.

It will unlock your bootloader, put on TWRP recovery, and root the stock ROM if you want to stay with that.
This WILL allow you to flash custom ROMS. However, you CANNOT flash radios, splashscreens, or kernels via the normal methods.
I would read up on HTC Dumblock as well as how to flash kernels via fastboot.
If you try to flash an AOSP ROM without doing a special flash for the kernel the phone will not boot. (Its not bricked, it just cant boot the AOSP ROM with the sense kernel)

Ok yep that's the one I was talking about.. So technically If I run that I will be rooted and everything will look stock but then I could remove bloatware get free wifitether and flash roms. Awesome. Thanks so much for the tips I'm going to take it one step at a time.. I'll get rooted then ill learn up on how to flash roms. Can't wait
I waited to do the ota on the lte evo checking in on this thread from time to time to see if there were any adverse issues with the update. Finally, just wanting to do something, and i'm really p/o i did. This phone has continued to lose functionality at least for me.
1) Voice search...used to be able when a page was loading to just touch the url bar and the google microphone would pop up where the menu button is. after update...poof gone.
2) Copy and paste is a hit or miss proposition...
2b) touching a phone # would auto bring up the dialer...gone
3) when browsing a certain personals website hit a profile and Maps comes up for no reason..
4) unlock ring, used to be able to flick it down and screen would unlock...no more
5) i call it lag but not sure...when i'm in a forum like this one, or another example, Truehoop, i will be scrolling and there is quite a delay between the motion of my finger and the movement of text even with page fully loaded.
And i haven't mentioned multi-tasking...
Rooting kinda scares me and the thought that it's neccessary to restore function just sucks. I'm guessing Apple can be thanked for some of this but certainly not all. My OG evo while somewhat crude in comparison as to build quality performed at a higher level relatively speaking. Done venting.

WHY THE HELL DO YOU KEEP MOVING/BURYING MY POSTS to this old OTA thread from back in July? I'm trying to generate discussion on a NEW OTA, and I'm trying to get somebody to see the post and confirm if they have any Sprint connections, but very few will see the post if you keep burying it in a thread for the LAST OTA. Come on!

It's our policy to usually PM on moves, and try as we might, we're not always perfect.
I'll chat with the mod that made the move, it wasn't anything personal, I'm sure.
Perhaps we want a thread to discuss each update?
In any case, plans have fallen through before, so let's make sure that it becomes reality first, ok? Without asking him, I'll bet that was the reason because we tend to think that way.

The HTC EVO 4G LTE is Sprint's version of the HTC One X. It comes with all the same specs, except for the processor, internal storage and radios (includes LTE). And aesthetics are also significantly different.
