Thats up to you. If you with sprint then i would say get the Evo, its the best phone out in my opinion. Friend of mine just upgraded the the Epic 4G and i thought it was just nasty. Felt very toyish, cheap, and plasticish. Plus the Theme they have on samsung is very iphone type to it. If it were me i would say Evo all the way. SO many things you can do with that phone its not even funny. Everyday using that phone still blows my mind after 3 and half months.

Dont forget to use Thanks button. :-D

Even with all the rumors of new phones, none of them have been rumors of anything better than Evo. There was something very similar to Evo coming out on Verizon soon, but we don't even know all the stats for it or anything.

I'd go with Evo personally.

Personally, I haven't heard of a new phone coming out anytime soon for Sprint (I'm assuming you are planning on going with Sprint).

Depending how long you can wait, hold off for CES, where the next announcement would come (I guess). Of course, even if they announce it then, there's a good chance it wouldn't come out until summer.

I'd go get the Evo (or Epic if you prefer) now. There's been a lot of new phones for other carriers since the Evo came out, but they don't seem to have improved much. There's a second generation processor out, but I still think they top off around 1Ghz, so it doesn't even seem like they'd be much better, which leads me to believe if a new Sprint phone came out next month or so, it wouldn't be much better (if any better) than the Evo.

Here's a good tested.com article. Its mostly about when you should upgrade, but it may be useful to let you know if buying a new phone now will be prudent or not.

I chose to wait. Have an iPhone now. Picked up an EVO last month to try out. Really liked it, but ... not quite there for a number of reasons, so I returned it. Plan to buy whatever replaces the current EVO from either Sprint or Verizon early in the new year.

What reasons? Battery life? Camcorder quality? Colors didn't pop enough? -Just curious

With regret, I returned my Evo and am keeping the iPhone 3gs for another 6 months or so. I really wanted to love the Evo - and did like a lot about it. It's just not there compared to the iPhone. I believe Evo and like android products win in the long run (just as Windows did), but they are a revisions or two away.

Loved:
* The physical device - nice, big screen; great feel in the hand; quality build; just a good design.
* The way the OS and HTCSense work. Improved design and flexibility vs the iPhone. But clearly not as polished and much more work to user figure out.
* camera - very good. Don't know how it compares to the iPhone 4, but blows away photos and video on the 3gs.
* voice commands: especially Vlingo and it's integration with navigation and other applications.

Hated:
* battery life - yes, you can improve it by working hard and turning off all the stuff that makes the Evo special; but the operating system should take care of that.
* applications - a number of applications that I use a lot are simply not there - like netflix, skype, WSJ... , and others like Facebook are just not as good an implementation (yet).
* synchronization calendar and contacts (with Outlook) - too gmail dependent (with some functions not supported, like reminders which I use a lot). Did not try the HTC Sync. However, just converted to gmail and this could become a benefit over time.

Indifferent:
* 4G - Live in Austin, so we have 4G most places (except where I live in the hill country, but that was no big deal with wi-fi). It is as fast as advertised, but I found it did not make much of a difference on a small-screen device. However, did not use for video conferring since nobody else uses the only application that works on the Evo.
* Sprint - actually this is a compliment because I had low expectations (based on 10-yr-old experience).

Conclusion: I expect to convert to whatever replaces the Evo in six months or so. Android 3+, HTCSense.com, native video conferring, upgraded nav system, more 4g coverage, fixing the annoyances & polish of Android, choice of Spring/Verizon/Other (need a carrier that has both a great Android and iPhone - my kids will switch from the iPhone, but my wife will never - she is the character in the cartoon "... it prints money ... I don't care, I want an iPhone 4"... I really liked the EVO, but not enough to keep it yet.

Did you mean the Skype implementaion wasn't as good? As Skype is out for Android when you wrote this, not sure when you had the phone though. Always good to hear iPhone comparison thou, thanks for posting it.

Skype (or Fring version) was not available when I had the phone a month ago. Maybe available now, don't know.

Yea is go with the Evo now, it has enough features on it now that will give it good longevity in the long run. My fiance was one of those people that needed a hardware keyboard but after playing with my Evo she is ditching the idea of getting an Epic and getting an Evo. Will probably have to buy it full retail but I'm sure we can find a good deal on eBay at that time.

Thanks for that detailed reply & I understand your position. The joke about Google products, is their users have to be willing to be beta testers.. I was gifted an iPhone 3GS when it became available & played with an EVO on launch day. Wasn't quite sold on it with 2.1 but now with 2.2 would consider it superior (except for battery life) to iPhone 3GS even iPhone4 (however 4's camcorder quality is superior to EVO so that feature's priority would have to be considered in decision). The customizability & openness of Android offer me more than iOS' walled garden store front. Apple is just insulting to me with their dictatorial attitude. I want to see how the holiday news plays out before pulling the trigger on the EVO but it's currently my favorite Android form factor. It's a tricky time due to all of the market developments happening..

If you haven't bought an EVO by now, I would wait until at least Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) to see if there any deep discounts on the EVO or other devices. I wouldn't put it past Amazon, or another online retailer, or even an B&M store like Best Buy to have it at $99, possibly cheaper.

Default Should I wait?!!

Radio Shack has a sale for an HTC EVO for $100 with a 2 year extension of my contract, Should I jump on it or wait till June where a new hot phone usually comes out. I currently have an HTC Hero and it is terribly slow for my liking

Thanks!!

Default Droid to Evo?

I currently have a Motorola Droid with Verizon. I have been with Verizon for many years and have been somewhat satisfied. However, my contract is up and I would like to switch to sprint. I was wondering if it would be worth getting the evo or is there something "better" coming out soon that I might hold off and wait for. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks

Right now the EVO is the best phone on Sprint to get. There will always be something better coming sooner or later. But most likely a better than EVO will not be out until around June. Sprint likes to put out their best phone, their flag ship phone, in June. The EVO will be getting Gingerbread, android 2.3, soon and hopefully HTC's new sense UI. This will make the phone almost like a new phone. The EVO is continuing to EVOlve. This is the phone the get for now.

There is an Evo Shift that's coming out. There's a forum for it here. IMHO the Evo is still tops and nothing really blows it away yet, from any carrier.

Thank you for responding. I do know that Verizon is coming out with many new advanced devices. I'm not at all familiar with sprint. I figured this would be the place to go to get educated.

Verizon is getting the HTC Thunderbolt.. it is and EVO for V... with their LTE 4G.

My guess it will have a few extra benefits..
like the same CPU as in the G2
and maybe more RAM same as the MyTouch4G
maybe even a 2nd microphone for noise cancellation
I also like its version of the kickstand.. which allows it to stand in Portrait too.
It looks like it has a nice speaker hidden under the new bigger kickstand...

but Sprint will save you $$ every month!

Why would you not get the 7 dollar INS from sprint and instead use a third party? Makes no sense.

Blush A question?

Would it still be worth to get an evo? I know a new one could be announced this year, but honestly, I really want this phone!

Wait until after CTIA, which is at the end of the month. Sprint is rumored to be announcing 3 new phones, as well as the 4G HTC tablet that will be coming out.

Hey guys, just picked up the Evo two days ago to see if I want to switch from my current iPhone. I'm still debating between the Evo and the MyTouch 4G.

The main issue I have now is that I hardly get a 4G signal at home, there are spots where it might come on for a minute and at work, I don't get 4G at my desk, but if I go near a window I get almost 2 bars. But it doesn't help me much if I don't get it at my desk or at home.

And now after reading about LTE possibly, I'm still digesting that information, I'm wondering if maybe they won't be upgrading WiMax as much. I'm guessing it's too soon to tell, but maybe I missed something somewhere.

Thanks.

I don't even use my 4G here in Dallas. If im not doing something next to a window or in my car, I can't even get signal, and usually, by the time it would take me to turn on the 4G antenna and connect, I could have already looked up whatever I was going to on 3G. All my issues lie with sprint and not my EVO. I love my EVO, but sprint's coverage is a little hit and miss with me. For instance, when I'm at my girlfriend's house, which is in a very populated part of Dallas, I can barely pick up any signal and my battery suffers because of it. I will be tempted to switch to Verizon if I can absorb the extra cost when my plan is up.

Yea, if you're not getting coverage, then it makes sense to switch. I get GREAT Sprint coverage where I'm at, and where I work, and in-between so I'm lovin' my Evo.

Default About to pic up the Evo!

Hi all,

I've been lurking in this forum for a few months now, as I was sure the Evo would be my next phone. I am currently using a Samsung Moment, and can't wait any longer to get rid of it..

I know that CTIA is at the end of the month, and sprint will be showing off some pretty hot rumored phones, but I don't think I can hold out any longer this moment is driving me nuts...

Do you think I should wait, or just get the Evo? The thing is even if I wait till CTIA I don't think I will be able hold out until June whenever the new hotness drops..

With rumors of the Nexus S 4G and the EVO 3D coming out...yea i would wait a few more weeks. You would be picking up a phone that is almost a year old already. It's still one of the top phones but i wouldn't sign a two year contract with one.

I would wait, without a doubt. CTIA is next week! Just wait to see what's announced. If the phones don't seem up to par with what you think you can get out of the EVO, get the EVO. It's really a win-win situation.

I came from the moment also and couldn't wait to ditch it. I've had my Evo for 3 weeks now and it's a great phone. So answer your question, yes I'd get the Evo and ditch the piece of junk your walking around with.

For those sitting on the fence, especially those of you with the Moment, jump! I got the EVO in January after suffering for a year with the Moment. I tell you it's the best decision you will make regarding a phone purchase because so far the EVO 4G has been stellar in performance. I have mine rooted with MikFroyo 4.5 ROM and not one, let me repeat, not one FC! The hardware is top notch and even if the battery might not be its strongest suite, you will never be away from a USB or wall charger for longer than a day.

I bought my White EVO from Radioshack when it was $149 for upgrade. Haven't seen it at that price since.

I love the evo...

but since it is a 2 yr contract.. no 1 yr upgrades (unless you a 10yr-er).

get an evo on craigslist for under $200.. save your upgrade for later this year.

Thanks for the input.. Does it change anyones answer if I am a premier customer and get another upgrade next April??

Also I thought what if I get the Evo this Friday as planned, and if there is something released at CTIA I feel like I can wait for, couldn't I return the Evo as I will be within my 30days??

if they anounce a new phone at ctia .. it will not come out fast.. maybe in 2 months... so no you can not trade it.

if you are a premier .. it might be good for you reset your clock for summer.. that is when sprint likes to drop great phones.

He means, wait to upgrade until summer because 1 year down the line, new phones will probably be released in 2012. Of course, this is assuming that you'll be gold premiere, not silver.

As far as I know, you can return the phone and have your upgrade status reverted back (within the 30 day trial).

My theory is this: If they're announcing the new phones coming to Sprint within the next 2 weeks, why not just wait to see exactly what those are and if they have specs that completely hold you back from getting an EVO now. If the specs underwhelm and don't completely blow the EVO out of the water, then just go upgrade to the EVO. Seems pretty simple to me.

Just a small note. But you guys should keep an eye on phones at Walmart. They had the EVO over there for like $119.99 a month ago. My dad picked up a Samsung Fascinate for $50 and the EVO is only $129.99 with contract.

@Pengwinn, I posted on another thread about this but it's worth posting again.
Best Buy has just introduced their "Buy Back" program.
In a nutshell, if you buy a phone today & decide to upgrade any time between 31 days & 6 months, they will give you 50% of the retail price towards a new phone.
Example: You buy the Evo today for your upgrade price. Retail is $599. May 1 a new phone comes out that you'd rather have. You return the Evo to Best Buy, they will give you $300 towards the retail price of the new phone. If the new phone retails for $400, you pay the $100 difference & you don't even deal with the contract.

I have no ties with Best Buy so by no means am I an expert on this program but that is the way I have read through it over & over & over again.

I'm pretty sure those are only for newly activated accounts, not for upgrades (for those of you that are just looking at an upgrade, not a new account with Sprint).

Question Just bought an evo...mistake or not?

I purchased an evo on March 12th, before i knew anything of the Evo 3D rumors about all the better specs. I also switched from t-mobile, so im brand new to sprint. Should i return my evo and use a sprint phone my friend gave me until the new one comes out, or stick with the evo? And if i were to use the older phone until the Evo 3d launch, would i still be able to buy the new evo for the 2-year contract price? Thanks

I got mine in December and that was pushing it but I really wanted to upgrade my crappy phone. At this point at the very least I'd wait for the "big" announcement from Sprint on the 22nd ( at least that's what I think I read) and see what's coming this year....
