Exactly one year ago, we spent months full of late nights, anxiety, arguing (a lot), waiting, more waiting, and hopeful wishes. Now, I am ready to do it all over again- in 3D
I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but will the new EVO3D have improvements of the picture quality, specifically, higher shutter speeds when using flash, and better exposure metering?
The pictures the EVO takes outside are pretty good. Inside, almost worthless. I love my EVO, but the camera is truly horrible IMHO. I REALLY hope with the dual cameras, the PQ is much improved.
Edit: Just saw above post. I'm hoping the lowered megapixel counts will allow better light capture on the camera sensor. Lower grain, faster shutter speeds, etc...
THANK YOU so much for sharing all of this info!!!!! I really appreciate the transparency, and love you guys for being open and honest with us!
while we did spring for a Carl Z lens, we should have paid closer attention to the CMOS sensor and it's ability to capture photons (light particles) to increase night snap shots and high speed photos. Once again we did here the complaints/concerns and the Android Market came to the rescue by means of the talented people to get the most out of Original EVO 8mp camera.
There is so many first with this EVO as with the Original. The one that failed to mention is another first in the world and another Sense UI 2.0 exclusive.
1) Camera will have a Sport mode, the 5mp camera's will function in tandem, but alternate. Each camera will burst alternately and provide crystal clear photography on high speed action events. (11 fps) I have tested this out and watch a 20ft putt go in the hole in frame, by frame increments. To be upfront burst sport mode will only work in 2d mode for obvious reasons, because the two cameras are sharing the load@5mp.
2)Another industry first as the Original EVO it will have dual LED flash. EVO 3D will be the first phone to have dual cameras and dual LED flash.
3)EVO 3D will not have lower pixel density as dual 5mp cameras will work in tandem to produce worlds first 10mp 2D photo ever.
4)Explained before, night photos w/o flash is twice of the original EVO.
Cheers,

Are the notification LED's the same under the earpiece grill? and is there one or two like on the OG Evo? Are there more colors than the orange/green on the left and red/green/orange on the left?
WiMax AND LTE?!! This EVO 3D is going to be simply amazing.
First, thanks for taking time out of your hectic schedule to come on here and share all the fantastic info!! Second, that someone from HTC and/or Sprint (sorry, not sure of your affiliation) comes here and listens to the users speaks volumes to me. It gives me another reason to want to give your company my business. Thanks again.

Honestly, I think the camera(s) alone will have current Evo owners get the new one on top of having both Wimax and LTE radios in it.
For me, the DRM will be huge now that I will be able to use netflix on my phone and not always have to pull out my laptop to us it.
The combo of being able to use my Slingbox, Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, and also go on sites like Justin.tv may have me on my phone just as much if not more than my laptop.
Love that I will be able to add a BT keyboard or game pad if I want.
If music play on it improves, my Ipod will be very useless!!!
With Sprint switching to LTE in the future, there was no way they would make this phone WiMax only. Man, I can't wait to see this phone. Thanks Blue Screen!
wow i have a calculus 2 exam on wednesday and your freaking making me eyeball the computer ever 5 mins.... lol thanks!
2 questions for you... will it support the new sprint direct connect coming out this year? can you ask if htc can make an accessory to have a solar panel for a battery back cover to help save on the battery life
also, whats up with sprint lightsquared and clearwire.
oh and this is what i think of the evo 3d
again, thank you for all you do

HOLY S***. That's all I can say. I am so glad I held out for this instead of just taking the EVO back in January. Much thanks to EarlyMon for that. BSOD you are awesome! If only some of the other companies treated their customers in the manner you have they might be doing better. I'm SOOOOOO happy to hear that it will be WiMax + LTE. Makes me feel okay to be with this phone for 2 years!
As I said before, goodbye big red, hello Sprint!
I'm glad to be moving out of the DInc. & OG D1 forums into the EVO ones.

* LED notification is still located underneath a new brushed aluminum grill and we wanted to stay true to the Original EVO and keep the LED lights same. I have been keeping a close eye on the news lately and this is nothing like the original EVO announcement. I our intent was to keep it simple and provide a device the fans have been asking for and provide answers to some of the demands (I.E. Netflix, Hulu, and a little extra beef on what is to be expected in technology a year later)Today, Holy cow you got ATT saying there buying T-mobile, announcing LG Thrill, and we haven't even step up to the podium yet!(Seriously) I know this thread will get out and so be it, but lets play ball. I call your 1gig processors and raise you with 1.2gig processors and I need to raise 2.0gig processors will do that. So yeah, if I have anything to say about it @ CTIA announcement tomorrow and I do. I plan for it to be announced. There is stage roll call, while this is hectic, we wouldn’t be here if wasn’t for you fans/support. I’ll catch sleep/vacation after EVO 3D launch just like the Original EVO. If you guys are able to catch the show live? I’ll give a shout out to Android Forums by salute on the stage.
Cheers,

Wow, this is the hottest thread to watch for sure, thank you BSOD for all the great information. I just had one quick question, is the sd card slot exposed? One of the gripes of my OG Evo is I have to take the battery out to switch the cards, but I have all these cheap 8GB cards lying around. Thanks again, I'll salute back when you're on stage!

the backward compatible you keep mentioning in a few places.. has me excited... for my OG evo...
thanks a bunch..for everything.. hope you aint pulling our collective legs!
I would never, it's a given and seen how there plan to do it. It's not all that high tech simple h/w, s/w @ tower and OTA patch for all 4G devices. At least we all say "4G".

Slight bummed but no big deal. If all you are saying is true, the awesome sauce is going to hospitalize me with seizures and a psychotic break from reality

so what does this display mean Worlds first qHD 3D display on a 4.3in screen (Pixel Density Classified)
Comparing it to LCD on the current evo or the nexus S super amoled, I care more about screen qality then processor, my evo is fast enough
Meaning there is not a single 4.3in qHD 3D screen in the world. Rumors have it at 540x960, but that would be for a phone of a lessor 4in screen size correct?

@ bluescreen yall should put in a motion sensor in the front camera so when ur using the 3d you don't even have to touch the screen it'll be like minority report and add the ability to unlock ur phone using face recognition.
I know been hearing that one too. Think quad core/ms kinect/3D/ and maybe!

So - I'm guessing the reduced size is coming from by making the buttons soft (on-screen) and thus able to transition when in landscape mode - in anticipation of that becoming a standard feature via Ice Cream (Sandwich).
BSOD, is it actually 960 wide in 2D mode, and 480 wide in 3D mode, or are we talking true 960 wide in 3D mode (meaning 1920 wide in 2D??)? I know the parallax 3D display in the 3DS has double the width pixels to account for showing independent left and right fields.
Above is assuming the 3D effect only works in landscape. Correct me if I'm wrong anywhere above, which is very possible .
Like others have mentioned, I had to join the forums just to say thank you to BlueScreen for all the great information. I was debating wating till June to upgrade, and now with this info I've decided to wait it out. It's going to be a long 2-3 month wait.
BlueScreen, you've been an amazing "dealer" these last 2 years in satisfying our addictions!! I can't thank you enough!
The only other question I have is will we have front facing speakers at all? Anytime I want to show someone a video on my phone I have to cup my hand around the back so the sound come to the front.
I'm backkkk!!!!!! to share in the excitement of the EVO 3D! Hopefully this time, the forums won't get so divided into sections, that people are scared to post!

Will the wireless chip include support for 802.11n over 5GHz band also and not limit it to only 2.5GHz?
according to pocketnow
"Going by model number PG86100, the HTC EVO 3D received certification for 802.11 a, b, and n communications. The 802.11 n performance was only evaluated on the 2.4GHz band, and not the additional 5.0GHz band the standard supports."
What will the fps be for reg 720p video capture and 1080p video capture? Is there a chance that we can see 60fps out of 720?
There are no fps caps period. vid capture for 720p/1080p/3d720p/1080p/video playback of POV2D/3D/ H2.64 etc movies/Streaming 1080p/720p via DLNA/android games.
Stressed test all the above formats, load was nominal, need for fps caps non issue.

I had a Thunderbolt in hand when I began reading this thread. A thread I thought I would avoid as i was ready to say bye to my EVO for good even though I loved the phone. Fortunately, I did not cancel my service with Sprint and was amazed by the incredible features and updates the EVO 3D will have. If people like me come across this thread and Sprint is reading this it's because of you my htc thunderbolt made it's way back to Verizon... I do have one question, will this phone share a similar look to the HTC Pyramid I caught at the link I will leave below.
I was hoping the LTE would work better in my area than Sprints 4g and at times the speeds were fair. In other areas the speeds were amazing. Reading that the EVO 3D will also be backwards compatible with LTE was a classically smart move.
Kudos to you and HTC for making what appears to be one heck of a phone. Thanks for listening...
D.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR TIME & INFO!!!
First thank you BlueScreen for all the information. We have been guessing for too long lol.
I second this, I always cup my hand over the back to get the sound out front.
Now I have to spend however much money in june when i just got my first evo this past december.
BlueScreen, as the info you provided prior to the original EVO, I thank you again for all the inside info for the next generation EVO. I really didn't think I'd upgrade my EVO so soon after getting the original one, but everything you've mentioned has made me change my tune and I'll likely be upgrading again come June!
Keep all the info coming!

There will be no shortage of the OG's on ebay/craigslist haha, I'll need mine up there to recoup the cost of the 3D lol. Actually I think I will pass my OG onto my gf so she can drop that samsung like a bad habit and i will pay outta pocket. She has already called dibs on my evo.
I believe the original Evo shortages where due to the shortage of screens.
I would hope that both HTC and Sprint learned from last yr and now knows the type of monster they will be facing this yr. I was lucky enough to get my Evo from Sprints website on July 2 and when I checked back later that day, it was sold out.
Expect pre orders to sell out quicker this time around.
I just wounder if Google will be handing out free Evos this yr like they did last yr.
Here's a question that I haven't seen anybody else mention about the EVO and upcoming EVO 3D.
Why is it that the Incredible got 8gb of internal storage + a slot for the SD card, but somehow that's not translating to what the EVO 3D is going to have?
I never paid attention to the reasonings after I got my original EVO on launch day, but I've always been curious about that. Seems kinda strange to me that the additional internal storage given to the Incredible did not find its way over to the EVO 3D. I may be way off base, considering I didn't pay attention to how much of that 8gb was actually used up on the Incredible, but just trying to put some logic into all of this.
Of course, I will say that regardless of the internal storage on the EVO 3D, I'm still going to be upgrading...LOL

Huge thanks to Blue Screen for all of the exciting information.
I used to be a B'berry user. Wanted an iPhone, but not enough to go back to AT&T. Saw the EVO specs and knew that was the phone. I pre-ordered it a month ahead and picked it up on launch day. Since that time, I've loved the phone and become a bit of a gadget geek (sorry, no offense intended). Really wanted the Thunderbolt - but now, I am salivating waiting for this phone. This phone will rock.
Funny thing - I'm here in Orlando for a work conference. Some of the Sprint folks invited me to dinner tomorrow night, but I had to decline. Can't wait to hear the buzz after the official announcement.

Greatest thing about this, dylan, is the fact that I'm not actually upgrading because I hate the EVO. I love the EVO so much, ever since I bought it, but the EVO 3D just seems too good to pass up, even though 1 year down the line, Sprint's next version of the EVO might be SO much better.
When Sprint announced their first ever 4G handset at CTIA in March 2010, they dropped a bombshell on the mobile world. The HTC Evo 4G is a device that introduces a lot of firsts when compared to other North American handsets. This is the first Andr... Read More
