My Brand new phone stopped vibrating after 2 months.
POS "Advance" exchange phone I received had broken volume rocker.
2nd POS "Advance" exchange phone I got looked like it belonged to a 5 year old. Scratched up, bent speaker grill, red paint under kick stand was all scratched.
Figured I may have better luck at the local corporate store rather than phone support again.
Sprint guy tells me "Well it is a refurbished phone you know..."
To which I replied "Would you not be standing in a Sprint store too If you had received this POS to replace your brand new, 2 month old, zagg screen protected, otter box encased, mint, effing phone???"
They gave me a new phone. Being a light cell user, hopefully I get better mileage out of this one. And hopefully you heavy users have better luck than me.
Damn that sucks, I would be pissed too. I asked the sprint guys if they would give me a new screen protector since mine had one and they said they would put the new one over to this one and did a half assed job. No matter how much I complained they wouldnt give it to me though.
So I just go to Sprint and say that I have a loose kickstand, and they'll give me another Evo?
Make sure you go to a corporate store and not a third party reseller. Third party guys will give you the runaround. Corporate stores have Sprint techs on staff that will fix it while you wait.

My battery door fits like junk. One side of the phone it sits flush, the other side its up about 1/32" of an inch or so. Not a lot, but enough for me to notice.

Some third party stores have techs, too. Just be sure to go to a "Corporate Store" b/c the third party stores are a joke.
Launch day 002 HW that's been in the basic rubber case and a basic screen protector that were both available at the Sprint store on launch day, because I never got around to replacing them with something better. Turns out that would have been a waste of money anyway because after almost 10 months my EVO is still in perfect like-new condition. Not a scratch, chip, dent, no dust or light leakage, no operational issues, nothing. Couldn't be happier with it.
I'm still replacing it with the EVO 3D though
Had a second launch day 002 HW that was doing just as well until early Feb, but it was stolen. Insurance replaced it with an 004, and that's doing just fine, and isn't even in any kind of case.
The Evo continues to be a pile of garbage, now its my turn, not the gf.
Earpiece is blown and it rattles when it vibrates in landscape. I seriously hate apple and preach against them, but considering an iphone at this point.

^yep...I've been saying EVO's are garbage since day 2...(got mine on day one :P)...I got bashed all over the place on this forum...now, the knowledge is commonplace.
It's not that HTC makes bad phones, it's just that they make a LOT of different, thus, causing the qualities of the phone to be as good as expected. But all HTC wants is money, so they're happy as long as they make money.
Yeah, I remember getting thread crapped for returning my phone because of a bad vibrate. I was being 'unreasonable.'
Only time before people realize HTC makes garbage.
Yup, been there with light leakage. Until the phone completely stops working or explodes in your hand, the general consensus around here is you should just put up with it.
After dealing with sprint/htc and warranty work for light leakage, I'm not sure if they feel this way because they actually think it's not a big deal, or just because its too much hassle to deal with sprint. I was already going to open my insured and warrantied phone to change a speaker just because I can't bring myself to deal with sprint anymore. Now I can kill 2 defects with one stone... sigh
I guess you guys think Samsung or Motorola products don't have flaws either?
Yes, every phone samsung has ever made has been absolutely perfect.
Seriously HTC is garbage. I'm sorry if that hurts your feelings enough to ask dumb questions, but its true. Light leakage was all over the tech news and forums for the EVO. HTC knew without a doubt it was a major problem. Look at the Thunderbolt threads - same shit, in fact probably worse.. I can see it in google images thumbnails...
^^
Seriously, Simply not true. I have 3 EVO 4G's in the household and all of which are flawless and I'd go as far as saying they are abused at times, especially mine. I take my EVO on hikes with me nearly daily in the rugged, dusty terrain of Arizona to stream music and GPS track my hikes, with no case (completely naked), and it has held up amazingly well. One EVO is from launch day, one from 3 weeks later, and another was just purchased. They have all been flawless. In fact, I would challenge you or anyone to find a structural flaw in the build quality. I have inspected them all with great attention to detail as I am the type to pay meticulous attention to detail, and all of the "same shit" you have mention is simply nonexistent in all three of my HTC experiences. I would challenge you, or anyone, to find a flaw any one of my EVO's, because it is truly not there. You are making a generalization, which is simply a "garbage" assessment. Due to the great build quality I have experienced with my HTC EVO's, I will be likely be purchasing the EVO 3D's without hesitation.
I, too, have been very impressed with my Evo and would not hesitate to get another. Especially if the alternative was a Samsung.

I work for Sprint, I do not represent them on this forum!
Single biggest problem I have right now is that the EVO is so awesome, I can't put it down. It's getting me in trouble at work. Also, I think the EVO has become self-aware. I sense its angry when I don't give it enough attention. Also, the video player crashes a lot for me and I don't know why. Seems to only happen with wma formatted videos. I resorted to using Summer Player and the videos I make don't crash anymore. I guess this is user error, but even in landscape, I still manage to hit every key but the keys I am looking for (thank God for auto-correct though). I wish in landscape, there would be one single line that you see for typed text, with the rest of the screen dedicated to the keys; making them insanely big to help my lack of dexterity.
My Evo, too, is also getting jealous. She knows that I'm starting to look at other phones, so all the problems are all going away now, to keep me from leaving her.

Well, I'm glad we can have an open mind about things..... You talk shit but really all I hear is solid bias. Did the white robed guys at HTC probe you while you slept or something? Sounds deep.

Your probably the 5th person I've heard/read say that today.
You guys are like totally right! I mean, if you have THREE PHONES that don't have problems, HTC must be the best phone manufacturer on the planet, no, in the universe.
... so find me a samsung or motorola phone with this many LENGTHY threads and tech news articles about major problems. Don't forget to find the polls of hundreds of people in the 30-40% range.
Considering the EVO is the almost the most hyped and developed phone on the market and completely relevant after a full year .. yea, I can find problems on the internet all day. Actually I can do it for almost everything in the world. I deal with your type in an automotive dealership daily. Your completely biased and I'm not sure why. I'm not in here acting like my phone is the end all. It's a great design and build and like all phones has it's quirks. Atleast you've found something you like bc the truth is, to each his own.
I upgraded from a Palm Pre, and have been happy (except for the lack of true multitasking) since day one. I have dropped the phone a few times, and still have none of the problems listed here. Even with a chip in the plastic next to the volume rocker, it works fine. The screen doesn't have a single scratch in it, and i am still amazed that it doesn't.
I do have one problem not listed though, after the last drop, it developed some horizontal lines across the top 1/4 inch of the screen, but with as long as it takes Best Buy to repair a phone, I am just living with it for now.
Sorry that everyone else seems to be having so many problems, I hope that eventually you guys will stop getting lemon phones.

More good points.
If you can do it for everything in the world, find me as many lengthy threads, polls, and news reports for a samsung or motorola phone like I asked. Prove to me I'm biased. 40% is 40% whether its on 1000 units or a million.
PS - What's my type? Usually my type would be smart enough to never set foot back in a dealership after purchasing except for warranty work. Unless its to get those keystone OEM tires you've been raving about.
I agree about the screen scratching easily..I have a few..The kickstand is sensitive, sometimes when i throw the phone on my bed from a short distance the kickstand comes out and then snaps right back in...I have light leakage on the bottom which is very little and i have a case on so i dont see it..I dont have any problems with the charging port although my husband does..It has to be put in the right spot to charge, although we have sprint insurance so were ok with that as we can just get it replaced which he is planning to do soon.
Other than that i am in love with my phone although id like to see and use the evo 3d and maybe upgrade.
It never fails, there is always at least 3 on every forum!
Arguing with them is about as futile, and time wasting as getting an accurate count of blades of grass on Coors Field!
Hey guys, I had my Evo since launch and lately it's been resetting itself randomly (dunno if its something I installed or what, or rom I put on). I also have quite a bit of dust under my screen on the upper left hand side. Do you think they'll replace it? I"ve gone to a few Sprint stores before for other phones and some wouldn't even look at my phone cuz I didn't have insurance on it. Even tho I bought it online and it was acting weird.

They should do something for you, although that something might be sending it out to HTC. If it's under manufacturer's warranty (which is should be since a year hasn't yet passed since launch) it should be covered under that, at least the dust under the screen issue.

Haha I'm just going to end this on a positive point bc I'm laughing that someone still remembers that. BTW your right about your type; They wouldn't purchase a $5 air filter from me bc 'I'm out to steal their money at the dealership'
Today I noticed a "chip" in the charge port (inside). There is a small sliver of red showing now (I have the black phone). Not terrible, but I hate when my products show wear

I think everyone does. Even if it's a little chip, I'm just irritated by it for the rest of the my life.

When Motorola or Samsung sells a phone that has a forum with 236,700 posts like the EVO then we can talk about quality. Minor issues with the phone isn't driving people away.

oh what's that? The captivate and droid have sold as many or more phones than the EVO? And their forums just aren't as big because they don't have thousands of threads about light leakge?
When Sprint announced their first ever 4G handset at CTIA in March 2010, they dropped a bombshell on the mobile world. The HTC Evo 4G is a device that introduces a lot of firsts when compared to other North American handsets. This is the first Andr... Read More
