oh what's that? The captivate and droid have sold as many or more phones than the EVO? And their forums just aren't as big because they don't have thousands of threads about light leakge?

If the EVO has so many problems then why is there like 236,700 posts in the forum about the phone? Got to the Motorola or Samsung forums and they don't look anything like the EVO's. Tells you the EVO has great build quality just by how many people are curious and read up on the phone. People don't buy crappy cars like they don't buy crappy phones.

Apparently all of those posts are in the form of complaint? I think that's what is being implied anyway.

I think that what Evulution means is that people actually like the Evo, it's just that a lot of people are complaining about build quality, even though it's a very good phone.
Charge/usb port came off mother board, I lost it b4 I could repair phone, does anyone know where I can get a new port? Or should I just sell it as is, everything works great except that.

Only problem I have is the paint cracking at bottom (charging port) and top back (where hole is to take the back off). I have the white Evo and would assume I may have caused the cracking myself - red is showing thru. I can live with it - it is a tool after all not something to frame and place on a wall.
AFAIK this is a known hardware issue and it should be covered under HTC's manufacturer's warranty. Sprint may need to send it out for the fix, but it's better than a dead phone IMO. I have also hear of Sprint charging a nominal fee ($15 or so) to repair known issues on site instead of shipping it to HTC, so you may get the phone repaired for a couple bucks. Either way, I feel it is certainly worth a shot.

Don't think companies put a lot of love into the white version of cell phones for some reason or they are just using cheap paint.
I still think the charging port issue is due to the user using cheap cables, attempting to unknowingly put the plug in backwards, or yanking the cable from the port (tripping over it).
Anyway, my girlfriend purchased a pretty expensive USB cable for me and I had to get an adapter for it in order to use it with my EVO. Had to purchase an adapter for about 5 bucks from Radioshack. That cable is a beast and I haven't had any issues after sleeping on top of the cable or stepping on the cable multiple times. Didn't know this but some cheap cables (ebay) cannot do data/charge the phone at the same time. I assume the more expensive cables are extremely flexible, can take abuse, and charge the phone as well as do data at the same time.

I did go to the store, but they told me it wasn't covered, How long is the warranty? Maybe I should try another store? They were telling me basically if I do not have insurance I was screwed, the phone shows no signs of physical or drop damage.

I have the issue with my black phone and only use the HTC cables (I sm lucky enough that my girlfriend is assistant manager at the local Best Buy so she gets things at cost... cables are marked up so ridiculously much to the consumer that it's depressing - a $25 charger set ends up costing her ~$5). I am sure that I don't insert it 100% perpendicular each time such that no part of the male end of the cable ends up touching any of the painted plastic, but I still see this as a design flaw myself. Simply using solid colored plastic rather than painting it would have done well IMO.

Did you actually take it to an official Sprint store (not just a Sprint certified retailer)? I am only going with what I heave read here, but they shouldn't decline this repair. Try giving HTC a call. I KNOW that this it a known issue on early model phones. HTC may have you send it in. If I had to guess, they would probably send you a pre-paid box to your home that you can put it in and ship it free (this is what other such companies have done with me for hardware in the past, although I've never dealt with HTC).
It's entirely possible that whoever you talked to was misinformed. I had a terrible experience getting a kiplsche subwoofer warrantied through Best Buy. Long story short, klipsche told me to take it into Best Buy and they would swap it out for me. best Buy refused since I purchased it over a year prior. I had to call corporate and someone from corporate called the store and ordered them to go ahead with the replacement for me. Interestingly, this is Best Buy's official policy reguarding klipsche products that are too hefty to ship. So... moral of the story, employees, their supervisors, and even their managers can be wrong.

The only Physical problem I have with my Evo is the powerbutton on the top is sinking in. I just signed up with sprint a week and half ago. First started off with a white one and right off the bat there was light leakage right below the captive buttons like they didn't fully paint it. It also started to have the power button sinking so i returned it for a Black one this past thursday and now im having the same problem with the button. So I had to remap the volume up button as my power button and the search button is my volume up button and now my power up button is my search button(which i never used the search button feature anyway)

Its hard for me to believe the power button issue is HTC fault. If you have two defective devices back to back then there is something wrong with the user and how they are treating the device. My EVO is from launch day and I had the Seidio Innocase II, now I'm sporting the Seidio Innocase Active. The power button is covered now and it took a little while getting used to have it covered but I haven't noticed any sinking on the button.
Maybe you need to start using the app screen lock so you do not have to use the power button and don't drop your phones.

1.i've never dropped either of my phone i'm very careful with it thank you very much..
2.I don't use the power button to lock the phone most the time, because I have the screen off setup for 15 seconds. But it's still going down lower and lower slowly.
3.i'm not the only one having problems with sinking power button. There are links on here, xda and other sites.
I really do love my evo so i'm doing everything I can to take care of it. I never had this problem with my HTC HD2

I'm just saying I know 4-5 other people with the EVO. Not a single person has experienced this and they received their phones a few weeks after mine. The 5th phone was purchased in August. Some people are probably pressing down to hard on the device or they have dropped the phone.
If a power button is defective. You would have noticed it when they handed you the new EVO right out of the box. For someone to have the SAME problem with their device two times in a row is extremely suspicious to me. There is no way out of ALL the EVOs sold a person can get two phones back to back with jacked up power buttons. And oh, the problem doesn't show itself until after you have had the phone for a few weeks.

three EVO's on my plan (hardware 002, 003 and 004), none of which have any problems. And mine (the 003) goes on a 3 to 5 mi hike with me EVERY day in the rugged AZ terrain, GPS tracking and streaming music. When I get home, I wipe it down and call it good (no cover; completely "naked"). I'm the "picky" type with my phones, and still cant find any problems.

Ohhh so you know 5 people with EVOs. That obviously gives you the right to call him a liar or accuse him of breaking his phone. I think if you search you can find the guy that got 4 crappy EVOs in a row. You should go give him a good tongue lashing too and teach him how to properly handle a phone.

Have you ever heard of a refurb?
The person you are talking about didn't receive a refurbished phone. His phone was BRAND NEW. Next question.
Having a refurbished phone with issues is understandable but not two brand new phones fresh out of the box.

He never said if the replacement was new or not, and given the sheisty-ness of all the sprint stores I've gone too, I wouldn't be surprised if there are stores selling refurbs as new, they've tried to pass them off as new for me, so who knows...
But again, continue with your assumptions - do you have the angry mob and pitchforks ready? I say we really teach this guy a lesson. Nobody badmouths MY EVO!

If he had the "white EVO" for a week and a half they are not going to give him a refurbished phone. He said he returned his phone for a black one this past Thursday. Meaning he walked into a corporate store. If he received a refurbished phone he would have had to go through Sprint insurance. Sprint isn't going to give you a refurbished phone out of a corporate store!
EVERY phone I've gotten from a sprint store(and yes it was corpo) has been refurbished, and
EVERY phone I've gotten from Asurion has been a new phone.
The fact of the matter is he didn't get a refurbished phone. And nobody on here is going to have a phone for a week and a half and go into Sprint and accept a refurbished phone for a phone they just purchased a week and a half ago.
After going through 8 chargers. Sprint is going to replace my EVO. Turns out it was the USB Port after all. Should have a replacement in about 8-9 days. Other wise I love the phone.
I have no physical problems with my EVO. I took my Otterbox off of it for like a day and dropped it.....go figure....and got a ding at the bottom right corner...other than that, we are flawless.
I have had my EVO since launch day and the ONLY problem I have had, is the charger port came lose and now I cant charge my phone, now I have to take the battery out of the phone and charge the battery by itself
my daughter's and my evos both started giving us problems about a month ago. we could have them sitting on a counter, and the screen would power on by itself. it got to the point where it would run the battery completely down, even while they were on the chargers.
i'm very anal about keeping bare-bones apps and info on mine to keep plenty of free space, whereas my daughter (14 y/o) loads hers down.
we brought them both to the repair store last weekend, and were notified that there is a problem with some power circuit in some of the evos. apparently, both of ours were effected. the tech waived any fees that would have been incurred to replace the phones and we got new ones within a couple days.
now, we have our reliable work horse phones again.
The biggest problem with my evo is that I can't seem to ever put it down. The second biggest problem is that even though all these new devices are coming out, I still don't want to let go of it, but I think I would like a galaxy note. I just upgraded from Savaged Zen rc4/ Savaged Zen 2.2.1 to cm7/ tiamat SBC and went from 1450 to 1550 on quadrant. So m loving my phone right now!
In my house we have 4 evos. I thought it was worth mentioning that my brothers had problems until I rooted it and put cm7/tiamat on it ( after seeing how good it ran I made the switch) my moms speakerphone automatically comes on and her proximity sensor has problems. But my dads runs great, and I myself have never had a problem that I either couldn't fix or made myself. IMHO this phone set the standard, and many phones that are coming out still don't compare to it.

Reason: Thought it was qorth mentioning.
Don't have the Evo anymore, but before I got the Nexus S 4G, I got a replacement Evo. The other Evo was basically in perfect condition, all the previous problems I've had before fixed itself somehow. But it started to overheat; the heat was so hot, I actually dropped my phone once after not being able to handle the heat. Then the dreaded rebooting curse started to kick in. But I assume the overheating caused the rebooting, as prior to the reboots, I felt the heat starting to kick in. I took it over to Sprint, and they just factory reset it. I already did that a bunch of times, but I pretended to be a fool, and just let them do their thing, and they said if it still rebooted and/or overheated, to go back and they'll replace it for $30. I was more than glad to pay those $30 for a new Evo. I got the replacement, and there were no problems with it; no light leakage at all, and it was just perfect. But I did notice that I got a crack (like bottom picture) a week after getting the phone. But nothing else besides that.
i've had my evo since 1 week after launch day and have had no problem with it at all until recently. now i've noticed that my kickstand is squeaky and i have a small crack under the volume down button, similar to the one in the picture above. but it's not enough for me to replace it.
Well i had my Evo 4g replaced @ best-buy less than a week when i had it,8/17/11 phone would not charge, wifi quit working, and speaker sounded crackling, so i took it in, they gave me a referb crap, the "clear" button would not work, replaced phone again 8/24/11 now this phone out of referb box had lens scratches on camera, crack next to power button when i got it.... was so pissed that they canceled my black tie thing, and canceled my insurance with sprint, now i have the "clear "button not working. 1/30/12 turned off service due to no reception in my area for sprint, just only verizon ( phone is on page plus now) I'm waiting for HTC to contact me so i can get phone fixed under MFG warranty... glad i keep all my receipts and records, I will NEVER BUY CRAP FROM BEST BUY!

I've had my Evo since 1 or 2 months after release. The kickstand is a little loose, the silver "T" and "C" are gone from the back cover, and of course the camera lens is cracked (not like anyone didn't know that was going to be an issue on the launch day). Aside from that, it's great! I stripped the case and screen protector a few months back and haven't looked back
