I'll be keeping my evo for a while. And at very least, after I upgrade, it'll be used. Just not as frequently. Mostly as a wifi device / media player. I also will probably flash a bunch more beta roms on it
My contract is up in a month. I'm very tempted to jump to either the SIII or a new Nexus phone that should be coming this fall, but I will wait until LTE comes to my city since I have great Wimax coverage now. That and hopefully some nice quad core phones will be out by then.
My Plan is up in December and I plan on getting the Galaxy S III! Cant waIT! I loved the EVO when it came out but its past technology now. The hardware just cant support my speed
Looks like I'm jumping ship to either AT&T or T-Mobile soon. I don't exceed 2 GB of monthly data usage, and I'm paying a premium for unlimited data as well as 4G that I haven't used in any regular basis. In fact I can only count a few times that I've used that service.
I'll be saving at least $20 a month if I switch. For this reason alone, there's only 2 options I have available to suit my needs. This would be the S3 and the upcoming iPhone 5.
It has been a good two years, but I will be moving on when the iPhone 5 comes out, and compare it with the Samsung S3. If by some miracle HTC flagship phone comes out with expandable storage and user replaceable beatteries, I might include it to my next phone candidates list.
My wife used her last upgrade for the Galaxy S2. My upgrade is coming up in November and I mentioned I might not even use it, she want's to get the iPhone 5 with it so I will probably take her Galaxy S2. Or maybe just keep the EVO and sell the S2, haven't decided.
I finally rooted my phone last night with an ICS build. Its made it a completly new phone for me. I plan on holding on to my phone now for a while longer until there are a few quad core phones out and I will decide what to get then.
It's been great OG evo, but I have to move on. you were a wonderful phone, my first phone. I might be getting your big brother or the S3. I'm not sure yet, depends on the phone specs and if sprint can get it together with LTE.

i really do not like BB's in general. why would you part ways with your evo? i'd say keep it. it is so much better then any blackberry anyways. if you root your phone(unless it is rooted already), your phone will be that much better. Plus the dev community is still going strong even though the phone is over two years old now!
that is what i would do, but ultimately that is your choice to make.

Chances are you'll only get about $60 for the OG Evo from sprint. I'd say its worth it to keep it. Development for this device is still chugging along.

LMAO a "phablet". LOL who really wants big a$$ phone in their pocket. the evo 4g and the evo lte is the perfect size for me. any bigger and it kind of starts to get ridiculous. i mean have you seen the galaxy note (the phone not the new 10.1" tablet that is out now)? i can't see putting that beast in my pant pockets..

There's nothing wrong with a phone like the note, but it's not for everyone and maybe not for many that buy them. I have one friend who owns a note and loves it. OTH I have 4 acquaintances who bought one and returned it. The common issue was that it's all but impossible to use the thing one handed. One friend was really nervous about the return because she dropped it due to its ungainlyness (she tried to place a call one handed) . Fortunately tmo was willing to overlook the damage. Most think they need to get past its pocket ability or looking silly holding it to the ear. It's owning a phone that requires 2 hands at all times that I see as the hurdle. If you're waiting for a note2, I highly recommend you try to get a similar sized device like the note and try it out for a day or more. You might find you don't need to wait. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I've thought about the size but I really wanted something I could use more like a PC while still having phone capabilities. I have a bluetooth so no need to keep the big phone next to my ear but I haven't really tested one out so I need to do that before I really decide that I need one.
Just upgraded to the ltevo guys. It was a rocky root without proper internet but I got it . Such a good phone its a little beast in aluminum. Need to over clock and see what it can really do now. Seriously guys damn good phone. The og is still kicking, gave it to my mom since he sanyo flip broke. No wonder right?

I still have my Evo 4g. I upgraded to a Evo Design about 2 months ago. Not a week goes by when I dont want to go back to my og Evo. This Design has done me no favors.
There's still more roms coming out for the Evo 4g than we have total on the Design!

yep the dev community for the og evo is amazing. i can't believe that there still coming out with these roms that are truly amazing. and it totally makes me miss my og evo.
Can't believe I haven't been back to android forums in almost a year. Still using the OG. Plan on moving to WP assuming Sprint will offer a Nokia 920 by years end, if not, I could see myself keeping the Evo for another 6 months. Bought a 32GB card a few months back which was a nice upgrade and made it feel a little newer.

I'm dumping this thing in a month or so. It's a great phone, but Sprint towers in my area are horrible to say the least, even though the coverage maps and CS say my area should be excellent. It was my fault for not talking to anyone, and just going by the coverage maps when I first bought this thing.
Personally, I am seriously considering going back to a contract.
Will be keeping mine until Jan or Feb next year. Been using my upgrades for other people but since Sprint dropped WiMax it is time to find a great LTE phone. Problem is that I doubt I find one that has been as good to me as this one has. Will be passing this one down to either my child or nephew to use over wifi and for music and such. Unless I can find a camera that works front, back and camcorder on ICS and then i may have to just give up my upgrade one more time
Just sold mine for 125.00. great phone but it was time to move on. Thought i was getting the one x but bought the galaxy s3 instead. The lack of sd memory and not being able to remove battery made the s3 my choice, that and i got a new one for 350.00 from craigslist , which i use on straight talk and so far i like. Awesome phone just wish it was brighter

what? no note 2? LOL
the s3 is a great phone. you chose wisely. i was close to getting one myself. But i did not like the feel of it. plus i'm an htc guy.

i am wanting to upgrade.. the evo is getting left behind.. cant keep up with the new games.
to either the S3 or the Note2.. the LTevo with only 1gb RAM is holding me back. so i am going to give sammy a chance to show me the light.
the issue is $$$ and S-pen.
S3 - rumored to be $50 on black friday at sprint. and get a Nexus 7
or
N2 - with the bigger screen and S-pen .. multi-window apps running. but $299!
Perhaps "try them on"..as in, I don't know how you carry a phone, and see how it feels on your belt, or in your pocket--wherever...see how it feels in your hand, how light/heavy it it etc etc.....and like you mentioned--memory, speed etc....
Lots of factors that sometimes bewilder me!

i agree, it felt cheap but with a nice case its good to go and i am an htc guy to just wish the one x had expandable memory and a removable battery. And yeah the note 2 is huge

If you are still with sprint the one x has removable storage
I will be getting rid of my Evo as soon as I'm eligible for upgrade if not sooner!!!! I have had nothing but problems with mine and there are so many errors on my phone that I can basically only use it for calling purposes now!! grrrrr .... The Evo was my first android phone and IM NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!!!!! If I stay in the Android world I will definitley be going with APPLE next!!! I will definitley tell anyone I know to stray away from the HTC products as they really have no support system at all!!

yeah i agree with rx, my og evo, evo 3d and now evo lte has been great. i never had any issues with any of those devices. not sure where i go after the evo lte, but that is to far down the line for me to say.
sorry that your experience was not so great. but if you still have issues, we can certainly try and help.

Actually, I prefer the return of the stylus for note taking and precise drawing.
The Galaxy Note III with 1080p screen might get me to switch. The Note II is only slightly larger than an EVO LTE or even a S III, but so much more powerful. It is like a tablet for the pocket with which one can make calls and stay connected.
Right now though, I am enjoying my rooted EVO 4G with pure Android ROM. It is so slick and completely functional without the Sprint bloatware. I probably will not get another phone regardless if it is not rooted.

Let me say your experience is not typical. If you can accurately describe your problems, wise members here can help. If you have a stock phone, even Sprint can help.
If you improperly flashed the ROM, even to a known stable one, the onus may be on your technique. There are solutions if you want to find them. The members here are more helpful than any Forum and on par with XDA.
One problem I can see immediately is that your spell checker is not working.
Might that be a clue?

I'll be getting rid of my EVO 4G at the end of my contract. The phone was nice in the beginning, but I'm tired of seeing "this item is not compatible with your device" when I want to download certain apps.
My Sprint contract is up on 12/27 and I'm leaving Sprint and their crappy service. They never provided any 4G service in my area and they probably won't till the end of 2013, if even then.
I'll be switching carriers and getting the Note 2.
I am sticking with the EVO 4G until something comes out that makes me lust.
Right now, I don't see anything that hits the spot. From what I can tell, the EVO4G is like the most popular phone on this forum. It has the most threads and replies for a sub-forum (at least, from a glance, it seems to be the most popular).
For this reason, I appreciate what the EVO4G means. The more people who have it...means that more stuff gets developed for it. I'd hate to have one of those phones with like 150 threads in the sub-forum. That would suck.
At this point, I am waiting for more quad-core options. I know LG has one (bleh) and the latest Samsung Note 2 has quad-core. I'll be holding off until there are more quad-core options...and I'll either get the Samsung S4 or HTC's first quad-core flagship.
When Sprint announced their first ever 4G handset at CTIA in March 2010, they dropped a bombshell on the mobile world. The HTC Evo 4G is a device that introduces a lot of firsts when compared to other North American handsets. This is the first Andr... Read More
