My Evo 4G has been a work horse and I'll likely keep it long after htc no longer supports it because I know the developer community will still support it. Kinda like the g1

If you are willing to root, Mik2.1 ROM brings sense 2.1/3.0 in a very stable fashion to the EVO. I'm currently sporting this ROM and it gives the EVO a new lease on life. The new Sense GUI is truly a sight to behold...

I was going to grab a 3D but I'm going to wait a while and see what the next few months brings as my 4G sporting Sense 2.1/3.0 is really quite stellar.

I still can't comprehend this argument. My buddy has an iPhone 4 and he runs to the plug more than I do. I'm not willing to say that the iPhone has worse battery life than the Evo, but I'm not willing to say it is better, either. It certainly isn't a big enough delta to make it a deciding factor, in my opinion.

Really the only thing I can concede to the iPhone is that it has a unique OS that may appeal to some people more than Android. That and I suppose it makes you look "cool".

Yep, I'm running Kings Alliance ROM 7.3 based off of Mik's ROM. Still not giving up my EVO 4G.

Until I got my Evo 3D shipped in, that's how long. I'm going over to my new home, the Evo 3D forums. Been a great ride here. Thanks to everyone for the help they provided!

I will keep mine until i get an upgrade, which this guy at the sprint store told me it would be 2 years....WTF? When i signed up i thought it was 14 months. He said they changed it and for them to just change it like that is F'in ridiculous...Anyone know anything about that? Yeah though, this is without a doubt the best phone i have ever used (yet) and i have had a ton of phones. 3 diff androids, all the iphones except 4 (whats the point) and this blew them all out of the water.

Sprint premier used to give the primary account holder a yearly upgrade. They split it into Sprint Premier Silver and Sprint Premier Gold. Only Sprint Premier Gold gets yearly upgrades. In order to be eligible for that you have to have been with sprint for 10 years or have a monthly base plan that is $89.99 for single lines or $169.99 for shared plans. If you don't get a yearly upgrade you can upgrade every 22 Months. Some people have had luck calling in and asking for 1 more yearly upgrade check out this Are any of us eligible to upgrade...

Mom has a new phone today, and it's a rooted evo...

The e3d is really nice. I can't wait to get root and really see the potential of this phone. It'a amazing.

By the way, Best Buy is ofering evo 4g's for $1 with a contract. With that price for that phone, I bet they sell a hell of a lot fo evo's in the near future...

I'll be keeping mine until the alleged EVO 4G+ comes to Sprint. As another said, I picked mine up late summer last year so I'm not due for roughly another 10 months, unless I call Sprint and persuade them to move my date up. But I could care less honestly, running a ROM that I absolutely adore at the moment. New isn't always better. In this case specs are, but 3D is useless to me, give me an upgraded camera instead (4G+)

I was pretty excited when I read about that...but I really now think that is an 'asia-only' model. It's basically a EVO-3D without all the 3-D gimickery and a nicer, 2D 8 MP camera. Just what I would want!

I can still hope, I guess.

I have to admit the 3d is a pretty neat feature. I didn't think I'd even turn it on but it takes very cool pics. I feel like I am using a secret handshake though as no other computers or phones can read the pics. You're limited by the fact that they are only viewable basically on the camera.

It's better than it sounds believe it or not. As for specs it absolutely crushes the evo...

Don't rule out the photon 4g. With the Atrix 4g supposedly getting an OTA that'll unlock the bootloader, and Sprint announcing that they'd allow all future smartphones to be able to remove certain Sprint bloatware out the box (no rooting), the Photon 4G might just be the phone of choice for some former EVO owners that didn't buy the 3D.

I tested out the 3D in the store today. Definitely not my cup of tea with the 3D thing and looked like Sense 3.0 was a little watered down compared to how they showed it in the videos (e.g. you have to download skins that they were showing off in videos with different phone launchers, etc...).

I checked out the 3d ver of this and it did nothing but hurt my eyes, dual core will always have its benefits but right now the only I c so far is console like games. Aka my evo will b wit me for a good ole while

Absolutely agree. Just a little tip, if your contact is up in october, be sure to ask sprint for a customer loyalty credit if u extend. I got enough credit to pay for a good portion of my evo and it may be enough to allow u to upgrade. If you end up liking the photon 4g or galaxy s 2, you can use the credit to help pay for a dual core phone.

i like this Droid Bionic -

http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/new-and-improved-droid-bionic-getting-a-4-5-inch-display-and-doc/

BUT i prefer HTC products and i prefer Sprint. here's hoping that HTC and Sprint offer a 4.5"+ display superphone soon.

maybe an HTC "Holiday" for Sprint?

Got my EVO in november and I am enjoying it. If something is available at the end of the year when my upgrade is due then I will definitely take a look. I hope HTC change the hardware design and bring something more sleek and stylish to sprint. All the EVO line just look so much alike.

Yeah I heard about the photon, but since I'm not too keen w/motorola as well as samsung it doesn't interest me much. But that could change since my friend has an atrix and it was interesting.

I'm not going to lie, I was kind of disapointed with HTC and Sprint with what they did with this year's EVO. I can't stand the 3D. It just gives me a headache. Sense 3.0 is good but I don't really like that carousel on the homescreen. I love the scrolling wallpaper better. Theres no kickstand...I don't like the form facter. I love HTC and I love sense. I'm just really hoping that this is not going to be the way to go on future HTC phones. If it is, I'm going to have to go elsewhere. My plan is to keep the EVO until something major comes out later this year or just wait till I upgrade in summer 2012. I'm looking at next years EVO or the Galaxy S lll.

Ever since new "upgrade" Google doesn't sync contacts. I own an Imac and when Sprint gets the new Iphone 5.....bye bye EVO 4G (yeah right!) Paying $10.00 a month for something I rarely get.

You will pay $10/month no matter what smart phone you have with Sprint. And with an Apple product you will be paying a lot more than that when they nickel and dime you every turn you make.

Yup. When the rumors about Sprint getting an iPhone came up...again...they were saying that it's likely Sprint will have a "different" data package and plan for the iPhone. And if there's one thing we can guarantee on that, the plan is NOT going to be less expensive than what you're currently paying to have an Android phone.

I'll keep my device for a while. The longer I drag it out, the cheaper an upgrade will be. I like the Evo 3d and all, but really, in six months there will be something faster, and in a year quad core phones will be hitting the market. I went through this pissing contest with computers a few years ago. I won't do it again.
So, any device I like must have a few requirements before I buy now.

1. Stability. In terms of hardware and software. I'm thinking light leak and screen lift here.

2. Support. If I get a 3d or another 4g device, I had better actually be able to use it. Not as a con, or a wow factor, but actually have a need to use the feature.

3.Aftermarket accessory support. It took the Evo how long to get any decent cases? The Otterbox Defender pretty much sucked and so far the only case I found worth a damn is the Ballistic HC case and that too took quite a while to surface.

As a Premier Gold member, I'm eligible for an upgrade next month. Don't think I'll be upgrading, though. I still love this phone. It's never given me any problems and it does pretty much everything I want it to. Except for the battery life, I think it's the perfect phone.

I'll be keeping my Evo at least for another year.

Since getting the extended battery a couple of weeks ago, I've been able to use the phone the entire day...14-16 hours of heavy use has been typical since I got it....way more than the pathetic 4-6 hours on the stock battery.

Complaining about limited battery? Get the extended. You'll be pleased.

So true I use to b the ones walking around with a charger expecting the phone to die, now with this extended battery I can leave one less thing at the crib. Good investment you'll be surprised how cheap it is on eBay

I will be adding a tablet this summer to my collection. I believe this will satisfy my thirst for new technology. I plan on keeping my Evo for at least another year. I can't find any reason to get rid of it. And with root and sense 3.0 I basically have the latest and the greatest as far as roms go. I don't complain of battery life because I purchased some extra batteries, so all I do is swap out batteries if need be. My brother just got the 3d so I was able to play with it some. Its cool and everything, but I use my kickstand.

I have had way too many bad experiences with Samsung phones and hardware issues with them crapping out in less than a year. Also all the update issues theyve had would drive me insane.

so what's the consensus on ranking the Android manufacturers based on past experiences in terms of build quality and update urgency?

1. HTC
2. Motorola
3. Samsung
4. LG

others?

???

I'd say that Samsung would get last because of their update urgency. LG builds decent enough phones, as far as quality is concerned, to maintain a 3 spot.

Other than that, I think that's pretty accurate.

I'm with the evo for the long run. Rooted, and battery life is great if you run a custom kernel. Using the new Mikg rom, awesome.

I like how the iphone users are now getting android features in their 'superior' phone os. But, their phone is much 'cooler' I suppose.

I can't even imagine what phones will be doing by the time my contract is up...

I went back and checked the specs on the Photon 4G and man I started drooling. 16 GB internal memory had me sold. I just have to wait until my phone craps out on me, and with the durability of my EVO that may not be for awhile. Maybe then the LTE network will be out and the LTE Photon 4G will be out. One can only hope.

Yup. The sub-forums were already created by the admin's, if you want to start contributing in any of the threads that have already started.

Motorola Photon 4G - Android Forums

I've been die-hard HTC for the past several years Mogul>Touch Pro>Evo 4G, but I've always been curious how Motorola smartphones would respond on Sprint's network, so I'm a little anxious to see how I feel about it once it's available. This is the first Motorola smartphone that's been released on Sprint, that I actually liked a lot just from the first announcement, preview videos, and initial specs alone. Basically, it took the components that I use and love the most in the EVO, added them into a Motorola phone, and also added the specs that I wanted from the start on the EVO.

Yeah that phone running Sense with LTE on sprint would be my dream phone. I did really like playing around on my girlfriends droid before I got my EVO. Motoblur doesn't feel as polished as Sense though IMO. I haven't played with the most recent version of Motoblur though so that may hav changed.

Same here. I flashed Cyanogenmod 7 on after trying some sense based roms and messing with kernels and cpu settings. CM7 was like the best combination of all of that and tons of features I really got used to. It feels like I'm running a secret version of Android 2.5 and Andy Rubin's classified personal custom edition.

I'm planing on waiting until the Nexus Prime comes out or something significantly better than my phone. Right now the battery life is crazy good and everything from pinch zooming to scrolling and general behavior is smooth as hell and almost never hicups. I seriously can't kill the battery faster than a day and I'm on the bastard all the time.

Stock ui will never be an issue for me since I use launcher pro plus.

Had mine since launch weekend; I'm eligible for full upgrade now but I'm waiting until a Nexus-type Ice Cream Sandwich phone gets released. And rooted.
