i do not think that it will ever get sense 3.0. looks like sprint will be moving on in the next few months from the evo. so now the only way to get sense 3.0 is to be rooted. and unfortunately, you can't root just yet if you have gingerbread 2.3.3 installed on your phone.

however, i am on a sense 3.0 rom right now and it is pretty amazing. i wish that htc would hire some of the devs that make these roms. i do not see no reason as to why these roms can't be made available for the evo.

also if you do decide to root but can't yet, i have a feeling that very soon an exploit will be found. we will then be able to root gingerbread. so sit tight and be patient.

Exactly. My wife has seen HTC Sense 3.0 on my Sprint HTC EVO 3D and she really likes it.

I keep telling her that her handset can have it, but not yet. This is because her Sprint HTC EVO 4G came with Android 2.3 out of the box.

EVO is at EOL in Oct.

dan330 is right, the Evo 4G goes EOL in October. However, there are a few custom ROMs for the Evo 4G that have Sense 3.0 right now, check them out here. I've used a couple of them and found that Sense 3.0 makes for huge ROMs, not a lot of internal memory left after flashing.

Since Sprint is dropping the Evo in Oct - the question now arises in my mind: what advantage would I have if I root my Evo?

well the advantage is that the dev community so far has no plans on dropping the evo. it is still going strong with no signs of slowing. i believe that they are still coming out with roms for the hero still! so i would not worry about it too much, you can still get you flashing fix, once we gain root.

yes.. i am rooted and running the Myn's synergy ROM.. it is GB with sense 2.0 and 3.0 combined. this is the best i have seen.

with the support from developers.. I would bet the EVO will get the next android update and maybe even another sense update.

Indeed! This is one of the many areas where the dev community excels, they will likely support the Evo 4G for years. The htc Dream/G1 is still supported by the dev communioty and that phone went EOL eons ago.

Yeah. Officially, you will never seen HTC Sense 3.0 on your Sprint HTC EVO 4G.

What I was talking in my previous post was rooting and flashing a ROM with HTC Sense 3.0. That is still possible even after it reaches End Of Life. Indeed, the Sprint HTC Hero is still very much supported by the development community. I have no doubts that they will get Ice Cream Sandwich onto it somehow.

No official 3.0 sense for EVO 4G.

However, rooting will give you so many choices, it's not even funny. I'm getting dizzy with the choices and I'm not even running a Sense 3.0 rom right now!!!

It's already announced that the EVO is not getting 3.0, but I think it'll be getting 2.0 very soon.

I dont get why you guys get all hard over a piece of software that turns your phone into slugs. I had maybe 70MB free of internal memory after using those synergy roms. EVERYTHING was laggy and slow.

Ever think the reason they stopped designing for the evo was because of its memory limitations?

I wasn't too impressed with Synergy either but have been running MikG ROMs for a while (currently on 2.45) and they are amazing. They are Sense 2.1 ROMs but incorporate some of the Sense 3.0 features. I have tweaked a few things and always replace the keyboard because the default one is really laggy, but otherwise the ROMs are great. It doesn't have the 3D carousel effect for switching home screens but it's awesome otherwise!

The 2.45 release has a lot of apps moved from /system to /data though (to make it easy for people to delete apps), but I have deleted a lot of them and the rest I plan on moving back to /system using adb.

i think that the point of this thread was that will a non rooted evo ever get sense 3.0. the answer unfortunately is no. and i have not seen any evidence that the evo will ever get an updated version of sense. in a few months the evo goes eol. so maybe one more update....maybe.

and if you guys have not tried mik3d then you are missing the best sense 3.0 rom out there. i can't wait til it is a final release. it is still in alpha!

You're more of an optimist than me. I will be highly surprised if we get an update for anything, let alone sense 2.1 or 3.0. I rooted in May and it turns out, it was the perfect time.

I don't think Evo will get Sense updates going forward. Not enough mention of it by HTC or Sprint so I have to believe they're in basic maintenance update modes only now and in the future.

The Gingerbread update had a lot of hiccups so I don't expect they'll want to take on any more challenges for the Evo.

Good news is that it's still a decent performing phone and there's really no urgent need to move to something else or update IMO. To have a smartphone these days that actually makes it past the one year mark and still be satisfying has been a good thing. When I think of all the others who bought phones after Evo, they've had just as many issues, if not more, and most have no chance at a GB or Sense update either.

Well, if you want Sense 3, rooting the current evo software is possible.
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/395962-guide-rooting-gingerbread-revolutionary.html

That will add a bit more life to our evos as they approach end of life, and after life
