Almost ready...the phone is squished, and the movement of the phone and its splitting / reforming are pretty cheesey to my eyes. Nothing like Motorola's DROID ads, which I think are scary and scary-good.

if free hotspot was a limited feature, from 3 months to even a year, i think that would definitely help sway people over an iphone. the trial might even convince some to pay for a permanent service....or even if it was a non-contracted-whenever-you-need-it type of service. hotspot-per-month sounds fair if they do so.

as long as the 4g network runs good, it'll make the evo shine even brighter.

during apple-week, i think free hotspot (even if limited-time-only) would steal back some thunder from apple.

I was hoping to have more and to take a picture but they wouldnt allow it. Also the kickstand seemed to be pretty strong. I have been following these posts for quite a while and followed Jackson on the Sprint Community since he seemed to know more then us. I just happened to meet with HTC today thus the update, Otherwise I was as much in the dark as you and hoping Jackson was right. Glad I could help!

has anyone seen this??

On solid Q1 footing, Clearwire promises two WiMAX smartphones - FierceWireless

"The company also promised to sell two Clear-branded WiMAX smartphones by the end of this year: A Samsung Android-based "3G/4G/WiFi device optimized for heavy video and video communications use," according to the company, and a 3G/4G/WiFi-enabled phone from HTC. Clearwire executives said both devices will carry the company's "Clear" WiMAX brand, and that the HTC device will be different from the WiMAX-capable, Android-based Evo 4G smartphone HTC plans to release this summer for Sprint Nextel (NASDAQ: S). Clearwire did not provide further details on the planned devices, though executives said the voice-calling service for the phones would run over Sprint's network rather than via VoIP on Clearwire's WiMAX network."

im blowing my brains out right now. I was wondering what happened to the rumored Samsung Android 4g phone from a year ago which was supposed to be the first, and the HTC device sounds like the HTC Scorpion!

@Rebella....anything confirmed on the set pricing for the phone? One more thing since there is only one color, does the same apply to the earpieces? Just silver...or red as well for some odd reason?

I agree, makes EVO look lke a brick, If this is a real sprint add they should fire the person responsible. The first teaser add was not like that, and why are the 2 women talking into the HDMI cable.

I currently own a T-Mobile G1 and my contract expires Sep '10. Since the EVO is coming out in June, I won't wait until September to get it. I don't want to pay for ETF for T-mobile since I only have three more monthly cycles to pay. What I was thinking is to lower my monthly T-Mobile bill to the cheapest price.$39.99 for 500 mins or so, no internet.

So I will pay about $45.00 in July, August, September. That's$135.00, I don't know how much if the ETF for T-Mobile, but I think it's like $350 or something. Anyway, my concern is my phone number. I want to transfer my T-Mobile phone# to Sprint. But I don't know if I can do it after my contract with T-Mobile expires. Anyone has any idea on the best approach for me? Thanks in advanced! You can always port your number, mobile companys can not stop this. They can however charge you depending on the situation. IF you are out of contract there should be no charge for porting your number though. Last edited by tkrechel; May 5th, 2010 at 07:12 PM. I think in the last 6 months it drops to$100, and drops again for the last 3 months. I know because I'm trying to get my sister out of her contract so I can get her to Sprint!

Here's what I found looking online.

Quote:
While the normal $200 feel still applies to subscribers exiting within the first 18 months of the plan, the carrier halves the fee to$100 for those with between three and six months left in their service. Those with three months or left pay $50; for those with less than one month left, the rate can drop below$50 if the customer's monthly rate is less.
Make sure you verify this with T-mobile support.

Bill, I will keep hoping and praying you are right, but it still seems like a pipe dream. Come on 22nd of May, but I'm thinking June 6th looks pretty solid at least.

Thanks!

But when I buy the EVO, they give me a new number, and then when my T-Mobile contract expires and I can go to Sprint and port my old T-Mobile phone number?

Do you know how much they would charge if I am still under contract? One time fee? Monthly?

Okay....this isn't news....but just fwiw...my experience on the phone with a Sprint sales rep just two minutes ago....

I called wanting to know what would happen if I was out of town during the release and in a NON WiMax area....would the phone be available...can I buy and port my and my wife's numbers. (remember...not very experienced here....still have a Katana) and...told the rep I'm sure he probably couldn't say anything if he knew. I explained that people on the forum here might start jumping from buildings if the phone is not release soon. He laughed and said, of course, that he didn't know anything....except that he just returned from vacation and saw on his notes...on the computer....that people are in training on the EVO now. He said this usually means the release will be soon.

As for answers to my questions....yeah...duh...feel so smart...but wanted to verify....I can go into any Sprint store and they can help me....but...he wasn't sure if the phone would be available everywhere or not. I asked him directly...so there is nothing to be read into this statement. He said to just call back to Sprint when the release date is known and ask how best to proceed. He also didn't know about the possibility for pre-order. So...perhaps Best Buy would be an option. But again....would I be able to go to a Best Buy out of state in a non 4G area? With my personal situation I may have to wait until the evening of the 9th....and would then worry about stock running short. Have any of you had experiences with purchasing out of state....with pre-orders....and the logistics of this situation? I've never waited for a phone....no research....just went in to the store and bought. This of course is very different. Feeling a bit anxious here!!!

Wow, that's even better! I am afraid to call T-Mobile and ask them these questions, and they're like

"Why are you leaving us"?

BECAUSE YOU AIN'T GOT THE EVO!

porting a number over during contract usually results in automatically cancelling ur plan. which means ETF.

you can also wait til your plan expires and then port, no charge for porting numbers. just watch out of ETF when you do it before your contract is up

I'm not in the TV advertising business and I don't care to speculate anymore. Actually, I would be happy to speculate with eieio on an earlier release date. He's still going for a May release and when you think about it, May still makes more sense.

If I remember right, you're in the business.

There's nothing to worry about. They won't cancel your contract. Just call them and ask them. I also updated my previous post to add some more detail to the T-mobile ETF schedule.

Well they will give you a new number if that's what YOU want. if you tell them you want to port your number they will ask you some info on your current account and they will port it over. If you choose to get a new number and buy the evo with a new number you will be stuck with that number. Only way you will be able to port it later is if you add a line and buy another phone. They cant port the number over later to an active new line. Well maybe they can but they WON'T so be sure of what you want to do before you buy the phone.

As far as what T mobile will charge, I'd think if you're under contract still you will be charged the flat rate amount for breaking a contract early PLUS any remaining time on your CURRENT billing cycle. So if you do it RIGHT after you pay a bill it shouldn't be a whole lot more than the ETF amount
