How is this off topic? I was under the impression that the EVO has this capability already built in... No? Maybe we replace "Nazis" with "Droid owners".

Now this is just my hope based on the information I have seen across the last few days, sprint sent me an e-mail listing the EVO 4g as coming soon, not summer 2010. Also Sprint has a tendency to move fairly quickly when it comes to marketing and release dates, or they have in the past any way.
Here is hoping I am right.
I actually disagree about Sprint moving fairly quickly with marketing/release dates.
Before the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro were released, I think there were like 3 different release dates. I remember Sprint Telesales AND Online sales had a specific release date that they were actually telling customers, but then all of a sudden, the release got pushed back a couple weeks...then another couple weeks after that.
I don't know if I believe the April 29th part, because that's the first time I've heard that one. On the other hand, I believe LS1 and the inventory sheet he/she posted. If there's that much inventory, then an early release doesn't sound impossible. I know that's what we all want.
I don't think its real because I don't think the software could be finalized first of all and already put on 143,000 products. Especially when there's been talks of 2.1 support of 4G, possibly shipping with FroYo. Perhaps that shows the pending order and it isn't actually "on hand".

Can anyone please tell me what the advantages/disadvantages are of getting a phone from Best Buy as opposed to from Sprint themselves? I already know about getting the rebates right away from BB as opposed to MIR from Sprint, I was just wondering if there were any others. I can't decide which would be a better option for me when the EVO arrives.
and am i correct that i heard somewhere that telesales will not start until a month after release? does that mean i cant order online? because that is how we get our corporate discounts.

There's a thread on it.

i bought a couple of phones from Best Buy and the advantage that i noticed is that they give you the rebates instantly. Also taxes you on the price after rebate which isn't much but still saves you a few dollars.

Yup - caught this too. It's April 12th and Radioshack already has 143,621 phones in their inventory system. Looks like they're on schedule for a release before June 6th as I've heard before.
It's all speculation at this point, but I don't think the inventory sheet is fake. I don't believe it's pending either. As far as the other things you mentioned, SprintFun, maybe they decided it was better to release the phone early as so many were suggesting a week or so ago. If Sprint wants to make sure all the updates are in place before they release the phone, fine, but don't expect it until June. On the other hand, if they think they can do the updates over the air, then great. Bring it on! I'm all for it, but I'm going to hold back a little just in case.
Guess we'll know one way or another on Friday - BUT I'm not going to let one morsel of questionable info affect everything I've been reading for the last month which points to an early June release.

June 6th sounds more realistic than an April or May release. I'm just as eager as the next guy but these things are no small matter. There is software to be tested and finalized, ROMs to be flashed, ad campaigns to be choreographed and rolled out, etc. Timing is everything in this market and these will be out before long. Anyway, enjoy "Silly Season" as they used to say over on the Palm forums. Before you know it you will have had the Evo for 8 months or a year and will have discovered all the pros and cons, tried all the apps, and will be drooling for the next big thing.
Sounds like an announcement and possibly an ad campaign will be starting later this week with maybe a Best Buy pre-launch or at least pre-sale late May and a full launch around June 6th or so. That's less than two months off so start saving your cash! This thing will probably cost between $200 and $300 even for new customers and upgrades.

Only thing that seems strange to me is the inventory screen shot says $599.99=20% markup. 20% of 599.99 = $119.998 (e.g. $120 rounded up), which would put the cost at $479.99, not $499.99 that's indicated on the screen. Maybe it's a typo, but the numbers indicated on that screen shot don't add up.
-EDIT- Nevermind. My math was backwards...LOL...20% of $499.99 = 99.998, which would make it $599.99

I agree, just that when I asked the one legitimate insider whether it would be the "week of June 6th or sooner" he said "sooner". Of course things can change though end of May seems possible lately.
Though I would love it to be true, I really doubt it would release on the 29th, still, I hope the inventory sheet is real!
I love how people with insider info and just overall near-expert knowledge keep popping up and posting here!
This thread is becoming more reliable and informative than websites like Engadget =P
What you just said Android 17 reminded me of when this thread was a poll that asked; Are you giving up on the Supersonic? Out of the blue, someone came in the same way LS1 just did and he uploaded a picture. It was his first post and he never came back again, but what he left us was beautiful, because it was obviously a picture of the Supersonic (EVO 4G) that I had never seen anywhere on the Internet before that. If you're interested, here is the post. It was before CTIA and that's what made it even more surprising, but to me, it was like a gift from heaven, if you get my drift.
It's funny, because before when everyone was saying we want it right now or forget it, I was the one being realistic. Now I'm the one saying this could happen and everyone else is being much more cautious. It will be interesting to see what happens on Friday.

We won't be waiting much longer - if you catch my drift.
140k in stock at that warehouse You don't stock that much if there is a lot of additional developement going on, right? I mean this is ready to roll? I am getting all drooly here (wipes chin) and look! they dropped the price
i just find it hard to believe that it will be released before june. bestbuy presales are in may. seems like everyone is forgetting that.
I don't think Best Buy is the one dictating the release date. If you think they are, I have some nice property here in Florida I could sell you. Get my drift.

Hi Tommy, could you wink or something if you believe the inventory sheet that was posted by LS1 a little while ago is real.
I'm gonna wink just because I want it to be real LOL but I do have my doubts, but then again, I don't really see why someone would be wasting their time making a fake inventory sheet....

I'm with you as well SprintFun. We don't even know that the phone has passed through the FCC regulations yet (unless Sprint passed it under a dummy name/device or something). Imagine if it doesn't pass the FCC regulations and they have to revise 1 piece of hardware in it like the battery or something. Do you honestly think that they would ship out 150,000 of them to RadioShackCrap with that kind of liability hanging over it? I don't know much, but I do know that is just plain bad business. Simply illogical.
You make good points about the software as well.
I am the ever cautious pessimist when it comes to this stuff and for good reason. Until I hear it from Sprint or a reliable outfit (like Jackson!), it is all just cannon fodder in my opinion.
Bill I admire your unflappable optimism, you have all my respect. Don't go changin' Buddy.

I gotta say I do hope that it is real, but inventory sheets are too easy to fake. What makes Jackson so credible is that he didnt post something once and leave, he actually stands behind what he says. If I worked for an inside company and posted something like this in a forum, I guarantee I would be lurking around waiting for responses.

This will be my first Android phone. I have played around with my friend's Droid and my brother's iPhone to get a feel for the different OS's. I was trying to decide between the Hero and the Moment and was all ready to go out and get the Moment but started reading the forums. I was lucky enough to find this thread just before it was made an official EVO thread with Bill leading it.
Boy, am I glad I didn't buy the Moment! Thanks everbody for saving me from a disaster!
Now I can't get away from this thread and can't wait for the phone to get released!
Btw, what ever happened to Ouhei? He had some good info early on.

I have a feeling we won't see it go through the fcc, companies do have the right to have the proceedings hidden for a period of time, and with how hush hush this release has been, I wouldn't be surprised if sprint did it this way.

Thanks, nullspace. I think Ouhei was busting at the seams because he had inside information. It was getting the best of him and we were lucky that we were the ones he decided to share with.

The Moment has pleased a lot of people. It has a 800 mhz processor (pretty fast, just not Snapdragon fast), and has that fancy keyboard... I'm still debating it if the EVO is out of my price range.
I've been wondering about Ouhei too. He was very informed on the ways of Sprint. Sprinformed, if you will.
and am i correct that i heard somewhere that telesales will not start until a month after release? does that mean i cant order online? because that is how we get our corporate discounts.
sorry to quote myself but can someone answer this? thanks in advance
I hope on April 16th Sprint gives more info on availability, as some on this forum, including myself, are a bit confused.
There's only 1 Best Buy near where I live and someone on here previously mentioned that BB got very limited shipments of the Pre the last time they launched a big Sprint product, I sincerely hope that is not the case with the EVO as I may be out of luck.
Ordering online would be ideal if I can't get one from BB, so it would be pretty disappointing if you are not able to until a month after release.
I suppose I could stop by the one Sprint store nearby, but I would rather not deal with activation charges (do they do any other kind of charges, btw?)
Also, this may seem like a dumb question, but how does the Telesales work? Is it just one specific company that works with Sprint that does it, and if so, is it pretty reliable, or a good way to go?

Not a dumb question! From what I understand, "Telesales" is just the name for Sprint's sales department that you communicate with over the phone.

I'm not so sure about the software part. Sprint isn't necessarily the best at shipping hardware with the latest and greatest. I wouldn't be surprised if they ship the Evo with 2.1 (even if it doesn't come out until June) I have a Sprint Touch Pro 2 and it shipped with WM 6.1 when 6.5 had been out for months and They didn't release an update til about 11 months later. I sure hope I'm wrong and they do the "right" thing this time.
