Default HTC C/S Guy Just Told Me Flat Out Not To Buy A First Run EVO..

I called Sprint and HTC to clarify the SD card re formatting issue and was told flat out by HTC If I were you I would wait at least 90 days before buying the EVO Not that our phones are bad or anything but the first runs always tend to be buggy, then he mentioned the Incredible and how on launch day they had over 100 calls holding sometimes over an hour to solve issues they had no solutions for right away. Now im scared!

The people with the google i/o phones seem to enjoy it very much. The only issue they had was the S/D card. I'll take my chances.

If the problems with the Incredible were widespread the they would have made some sort of compromise like a discount or something. They were isolated screen and battery issues - that said. I'm surprised any official HTC or Sprint person would make a bold statement like that. And with Sprints 30 day no questions asked refund policy, I am sooo not afraid.

Its not a hardware issue...its software. Which is easily corrected with a software update. Go ahead and wait, more phones for us

This is no different than buying ANY phone at release. Risk you run, get it now so you can enjoy and not wait and deal with any bugs before they get fixed OR wait until a few updates come out, but then you have to wait.

My upgrade isn't up until September and I was talking with the manager of one of the retention call centers. (She made it July 1st) She said its good to sometimes to wait a month or so because the release day phones can have problems. I know she was just trying probably to appease me but still, it is not unheard of.

p.s. I'm waiting for my review unit in the mail...so all is well in my book.

The 30 day return policy is the only reason im going ahead with the purchase now. I almost wish I didn't call HTC now.

Sure, wait 90 days before getting your EVO. That's about the right time to receive one of the first refurbs we returned.

All I had to do was re-seat my SD card a couple times until it was happy, format it, and now it's worked great for 2 weeks. That's sure a rough workaround.

Anyway, what was the issue with the Incredible that the rep was talking about?

The article I read said as many as 60 users had complained about this. Ok, out of 5k phones? I'll take those odds. Seems you need to format the card first which should be a no brainer. You should format ANY new memory card before using it.

Not trying to stir anything up but I found unrevoked at HTC EVO 4G: Nice Hardware, Horrible Sprint Software. Not sure how legitimate it is.

Even if there were hardware flaws, you simply go to sprint in a couple months, complain, and get a shiny new hardware revised EVO.

Now HOLD ON people, just a minute!

It really is true that the early runs may have problems. I've had friends, neighbors etc say the same thing.

Many of those have indicated that even after the 2nd run, having fixed the initial problems, things can still show up. And, yes, you guessed it, probably best to wait for a third run!!

I've read this on the internet!

So I'm going to just wait... not sure for how long, maybe a year. These mfg's are pretty slow at fixing problems, everyone knows that. So...

Okay, I can't stand it anymore, I'm only gonna really wait for 2 more hours cuz my appt is at 7am hahahahahahhah

No I didn't but many people did on the Inc forum. I just hope my luck doesn't run out this time around. It seemed like some people had good ones some bad. Most of the owners reporting problems complained of the same issues. As I recall a few people also had Incs just go dead after a few days or so just would no longer power up. It will be interesting to see what happens here over the next few days.

Ok sir, ill bite.

1. The issues that the incredible had were due to certain cell towers in very few certain areas that had an old revision on them, causing the incredible to reboot. That was verizons fault, nothing to do with the phone.

2. Android has become a proven platform, HTC has become a proven phone manufactuer, the likelyhood of launch day bugs is fairly slim

3. However there are always SOME issues with ANY phone or device, car, etc. Its just the way it is.

4. If the HTC employee told you that, he would be fired. Straight up, hands down, bar none, he would lose his job. So this is me telling you that you are lying.

You don't deserve one because you came in here attempting to cause shock and awe, probably because you can't afford an Evo, or didnt pre order and cant find one. Stop ruining everyone elses time and get a life.

Lay off the poor kid already, he's already been raked over the coals for his post. It really serves little purpose any more... should ask a mod to close it.

I usually don't buy first run's either but there's no way I can continue to use this instinct with EVO being out.

Hmm, I don't recall reading having their phones go dead after a few days. A few things, battery life and a few people with faulty proximity sensors. That's about it.

Just to let you guys know, BetterMost was on the Incredible forum complain about little issues with the phone. He has also been on crackberry complaining about his previous BB device. He is just a troll. He will probably complain about any little issue with the phone. So far no phone seems perfect for him. My advise is to just close this thread and don't bother wasting time reading his post

I could have sworn that, if you eat anything, you aren't ever allowed to go in water.

That's like saying if you buy a new car when it's released, it's gonna fall apart.

If you worry about what could go wrong with buying a new phone because it may have issues then I offer you this....

1. Do not buy a new car. (things go wrong in the first couple years)
2. Do not buy a new home. (same thing applies as the new car)
3. Do not take prescription drugs (they report side effects in some, not all)

I will stop there, you get the point.

I have been messing with my EVO for the last 8 hours. No issues at all. Does that mean I am in the clear? Who knows and who cares. If problems happen they will get fixed. I think Sprint/HTC learned a lot about the dealings they had with the Hero which is why they were so quick to come out with an update the day of the release. It may be safe to say that they may have actually got it right finally.
