you can use lockbot to change your lock screen to have a different picture. some of use are just changing the wallpaper and taking pictures at different times, but not actually using them on the phone at the same time.

would be cool if there was a way to set different wallpapers for all 7 screens..

You must be rooted. You need to flash that .zip file with a custom recovery.

Learn how here.

Maybe just re-install the app?

Default Just Got A White HTC EVO. Pics of the Screen Inside...

Sorry for the ghetto pics...but I'm not rooted and can't figure out how to get a screen shot so I had to pull out the Canon 5D Mark II instead. Also including a peek at the white EVO in case anyone hasn't seen it yet. Click Here For More White EVO Pics.

yes, look for folder organizer lite - free app or better cut - $$

also a lot of us are using launcher pro for our home screens instead of sense. you will lose sense widgets, but are replaceable with similar widgets from the market. you can grab home switcher too for easy switching between the 2.

check page 27 for folder organizer tutorials. reading through pages 20 to here will find you lots of good stuff.

you can do most of what the rooted guys are doing by using these programs.

Well actually i guess i at least got it to this point?
Here are my screens, Chicago skyline at night, Pure calendar widget, switchpro, and minimum icon pack. My favorite deal about all of this or at least the thing that i think looks the coolest is the scrolling 3D app drawer. I took a screen grab of it in case anyone hasnt tried it, it looks cool, not any more practical though.

I can't be sure if he is rooted or not. But what he has can be done unrooted with launcher pro and widgets.

Nice layout Drew. Two questions about your launcher icons. Are these from www.mysitemyway.com? If so, did you mess around with them to bump them up to a nice size? I found their Matte Blue tile icons to be too small even after resizing in Photoshop. But I really like the ones you have.

Don't just resize the icons you pull from that site, crop them because there's a bunch of transparent space around the visible icon.

Thanks for the help, Effuent. Yeah, I did crop them (probably not enough). The tiled symbols seem to have a lot of transparent space AND tile space around them. I'm gonna try the non-tiles icons and see if I like them better. Any advise on a good final pixel size for the launcher dock?

Just a quick reminder guys; can you please post the name of any widgets/apps used in creating your custom screens? It can really help folks who come to the thread late and haven't read every single previous page.

Thanks!

Maybe 84x84 or 64x64.. Haven't messed with it too much. I was planning on trying out some icons from that site, because they are the best I've seen but haven't gotten around to editing more than one or two individual icons just to see if I could get it the right size. Just pick a couple icons and play with the cropping and sizing, put into your dock to see what works best. Then you can do the rest of the icons.

How would I go about using these? I'm assuming we can't use any of the prepackaged downloads on the evo...is there a way to browse the individual icons so we can save them one by one?

Maybe 84x84 or 64x64.. Haven't messed with it too much. I was planning on trying out some icons from that site, because they are the best I've seen but haven't gotten around to editing more than one or two individual icons just to see if I could get it the right size. Just pick a couple icons and play with the cropping and sizing, put into your dock to see what works best. Then you can do the rest of the icons.
Yes that is where I got the icons. I do not crop. I do not resize the original file either. I stay away from the ones with shadows from that site. The shadows in mine are part of the dock.

This can be a bit of work but its not too bad.

Click on the individual icon you want until it is really big and right click and save image. The image size should be huge at like 420x420 or something.

I have been using. 72x72, originally I was told 80x80 but found in android sdk they say to use 72.

Ok so open your icon in photoshop. Now open a new file and size it to 72x72 drag it so the 2 pics are next to each other. Click on the icon box, now hit control T and you will see a box form around your icon. Now HOLD SHIFT then grab a corner wirh mouse and drag the icon until it is similar in size to the 72 box. Now hit enter . Drag the icon over to the 72 box and fine tune your size with control T again. Holding shift keeps height and width together so you don't squash your icon.. lol.

now save the file as a .png and don't forget to make the background transparent. Now load it on your phone for testing.

I found this method keeps the icons looking the best.

Pm me if you are having trouble, I won't be around untill later pacific time

First, thanks to everyone on this thread - you've introduced a lot of really great ideas and tools available to those of us who are relatively new to the space.

Below if my first fully baked execution, and I"m pretty happy with it. I used:

Folder Organizer Lite

Icons: Combo of Token Lite, Token Dark and LauncherPro icons

Widgets:
Jorte
ColorNote
Snowstorm
Pandora
Tajm (Clock)
SwitchPro
Handcent
Twicca

Thanks - your method works great. The ones without the tile around them appear much larger and are much better looking than the others. BTW for all others reading this post, the web address is Royalty Free Icons & Clipart Stock Images ~ Icons Etc. not what I wrote in my original post.

I hit the thanks button by accident, so you got a freebie lol

the correct size for the evo screen is 960x800

if you disable wallpaper scrolling, you can place 2 960x240 bars of emptiness on either side of the picture so that you maintain the screen resolution for the remaining area. then fit your image to the 480 left in the middle

I really enjoy going through this thread in my Xscope browser and fitting screen shots into my screen to see how I like the backgrounds and icons and whatnot in my phone.

...just thought I'd share
