Default gmail -no connection

i am sure this has come up in the way past but i am wondering if i am missing something..

i am able to send and receive gmail over wifi no issues no on the evdo and 4g i get a no connection but i still have web access i can access gmail though the native web browser or even firefox on my cell

is this a app only issue of a data issue

It's an issue with the last update Google released for the Gmail app.
In my case it doesn't always say "no connection" while on the mobile network, but more often than not when clicking refresh it will say it. Even so, the app does seem to still function normally (send and receive the same it's always done) for me.

If you look at the app in Google Play, there is at least one comment about the app doing it on other phones.
