Default Incoming text notification

I recently got the HTC Evo Design 4g, still learning it. I can never hear when i get a text message. It is a very low sounding beep. How can i change the volume and sound for a text message so i can hear it? Thanks!

menu, personalize, sound, select "notification sound" then message. it will pull up a list of installed sounds to select from. select, apply and done.
