Just bought the phone today. So I thought I would post some pics to give people a good idea what it looks like up close.
The top blue bezel around the screen is more like an anodized brushed aluminum look, but it is so dark that it's hard to tell.
There is the LED notification behind the ear piece speaker grill. In the manual it indicates it's suppose to be on the opposite side.
I will probably post one or two tomorrow in the daylight.
Update Daylight photos:
I couldn't get a good photo of the touch screen and the trim surrounding it, but just to give you an idea the screen is recessed just slightly into the phone.
I would consider the color of the phone 'midnight blue'. Considering it looks black in low light.
The soft touch on the side and back, it actually looks grey with metallic blue in certain reflections.
The trim plate surrounding the keys matches the color and style of the top bezel.
What's included in the box. The 2gb micro sd card comes already installed in the phone.
Enjoy

My upgrade is in July, can probably get it in April or May though. I'm going back and forth between wanting the Shift, original Evo, or whatever is going to be released around that time (Evo 2 maybe, its inevitable). I'm really liking the Shift right now though.

I'm sure by then everyone will be drooling over dual core devices.
Myself included...my plan is to drop the Shift on my wife and steal her upgrade
I don't necessarily need a dual core. I really just want something that works out of the box, stock. I'm plagued with a Hero and went through waaaaaaay too much tinkering with the rooting process just to get it to function for everyday use.
I was so jealous when my wife upgraded to the LG Optimus S (came from a Samsung Instinct). The fact that it was stock and was faster and smoother than my rooted, over clocked Hero running cm6 just pisses me off.
The more I think about it, the more I want the Shift. I haven't seen one up close (maybe today), but in pics it is very very sexy.
I know it is still early, but at this point I'll say that it is solid enough out of the box that I would be ok with it if I had to leave it stock. It feels more like I was envisioning the Hero to be before it came out...

Sweet thanks for the pictures.. I'm still debating which phone I should get. I really wanted one with front camera but for more and more I look at this phone I think this would be better than the evo or epic.
I'm up for an upgrade feb 1st and I can't wait to replace my loved/hated Moment.
p.s. waiting for daylight pictures

Ok so after work today I stopped at Radio Shack. I played with the Shift a little and IMO, I would totally buy this thing if it wasn't for the feel of the slider. It just felt stiff, and pretty cheap compared to ALL the other sliding phones.
I thought maybe it was just the floor model so the salesman got me a boxed one and it felt the same way. I've never owned a slider style phone before so maybe I'm off base. It still didn't feel good to me.
I was playing with the blue one. Does the black one feel different?

I didn't know there was blue and black to choose from..
If there's a black one that would be another +1 to make me get this phone

I went to Radion Shack and had the same reaction to the slider of the floor model they had. Then I went to Best Buy Mobile, where they let me look at one fresh out of the box. There was a marked improvement on the slider. I wasn't there with you, but my guess is that it was the floor model that you played with. Wait a few days and check one out at a Sprint store or Best Buy.
Mine is pretty stiff with the case on. I actually like it better because it did have a little play when it was slid out. With the case it feels solidly in place.
As far as how a slider should feel, I don't know. This is my first....
Just updated first post with some new photos in day light.
The slider feels ok with mine. With the case it is much tighter feeling and less movement same as etbrandt.
I don't think there is a blue such as the one on the sprint site.
Farmington, eh? Got 4G there? I would guess so since it is all over north of you.
I am still torn. I just bought mom and evo....I could trade it in and get the shift and give her my evo. I just don't need the keyboard. I think we will be sticking with evos for both of us.

I'm just outside the 4G zone about 8 miles. I have wifi in my house which is faster.
I love the color of this phone, from the video reviews it looked black. The quality of the phone just feels so solid and I don't have to worry about the back ever coming off, like with my moment. Also, I'm not sure how many people this is gonna appeal to, but the color matches my Trans Am almost perfectly, my first car+phone geek experience

I'm not going to lie. It's a sexy looking phone. I like the dark blue colors. I was playing with it at a radioshack as well. The sliding mechanism is superb. It doesnt feel loose or anything. It's sort of like a Droid. We all know HTC makes the best keyboards. If I were into keyboards and needed a phone.....this would be it but I don't. I'm happy with my EVO.
right now Im trying to see what i want to do. I was up for an upgrade since early december and had finally decided on the evo. then I heard about the shift and waited. Now that i had time to play with the shift, I like it a lot. Ive never had a keyboard and having one really appeals to me. I wanted to wait till march to see what sprint might announced at the cell phone convention but I have the feeling that if I keep waiting that I would always be waiting for the next best thing. something is always just around the corner. So I think I will just pick up the shift now and worry about newer and better phones once they are released. The shift is truly a really nice phone.

The HTC EVO Shift 4G is an intermediate release in the EVO series. It's a phone aimed at the entry level market and while it may not be as powerful as its predecessor, it's no less deserving of its name. The EVO Shift 4G is essentially Spri... Read More
