It never auto updated for me either. You can find another thread in this forum that shows you where to download the new apk to your phone and update it manually. The old market had started giving me lots of problems when I would try to update apps, but the new one works great.

No! It will brick your phone

Its just like any other apk, just download and install. It will replace your current market.

I didn't even realize I had an old version of market. Just figured it would be auto updated so I was good. Read this thread and thanks to crump, I now have the new version. It is an amazing difference.

what is the newest version of Market that it should auto-update to? I have followed google's, android's, and htc's instructions on how to force Market to auto update, but the highest version I can get is still only v2.3.4
also, what is the newest version of Market that will operate properly on our phones? and where can I get it reliably? I'm not a huge fan of the site the above update is linked to

Um, Android Police is a pretty reliable source and I've been using that market since it has dropped. If you don't like that link, try this one http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Android+Market+3.4.4
