Default Former Triumph owners

Are you glad that you switched to the Evo V? I know that I am. The Evo is an all around better phone. Pair it with a custom ROM and kernel and then things really get cooking.

One of my biggest issues with the Triumph was actually the Bluetooth. It was so flaky it kept disconnecting when paired with the receiver in my car, making it pretty much unusable. Switching to the evo fixed that in addition to being blazing fast, so I'm pretty happy (if only I could figure out a way to get sms notifications on my receiver like I used to when it was paired with my rumor touch).

I made the move for the specs of the EVO and its future proof-ness

but in all honesty, the screen is SMALLER than the triumph in actual usability.

I mean, its 16:9 versus 5:3 of the triumph. its wider in landscape mode and taller in portrait, but its not just a straight up size boost. its an entirely different aspect ratio. so the sides in portrait are THINNER than the triumph.

even on the triumph, typing in portait mode was cramped with my gigantic thumbs and this screen has a smaller keyboard in portrait.

oh well.. I guess its a minor complaint. its not iOS, we can just flip it sideways and use the landscape keyboard in most apps. but for the few that wont, its terribly annoying.

I'm still trying to find a rom that works.

stock is bad. harmonia keeps breaking text messaging for me. mobster is nice but i dont want a ics look-alike. I want either sense or full-on real ics.

I'm on midnight right now and I have to reboot constantly to GET texts...

and yes i have the EVO 3D radio mods and new PRL installed correctly. also S-off..

in conclusion, I must say that if your looking at PURE HARDWARE and specs. the evo wins hands down, its sexy, fast, and going to support the newest versions of android for a long time.

but if we are talking about service and signal reception and being able to USE the damn thing. I miss my triumph.... it at least held a signal inside my house.

the evo is great everywhere ELSE, but I work from home and spend a LOT of time here and now im constantly missing very important calls and texts... I left a tow truck driver sitting outside my place for an hour the other day becuase none of his calls got through to me, i had to walk outside to see it.

I've lost about 1200$ worth of work from various customers by not getting their texts or calls when they actually sent them... its VERY VERY frustrating and since I'm down on work I cant afford to just move to T-Mobile or anything...

Have you tried a different radio? Some radios work better in different areas, I've been running Midnight ROM for months and have never had a problem with not getting calls or texts until the other day I couldnt send or receive texts but I believe its because I flashed the entire 2.89 firmware for the Sprint 3D a few weeks ago, had to RUU to get it working again

I have both, Triumph and EVO V (Wife's)
Triumph is fun to tinker with, that's why I got it - it's my first smart phone.
EVO V has been excellent since changing the Radio to 808, just a pain to Unlock, Root, S-Off, Flash hboot, Flash radio, flash orig. hboot - for a noob, it makes you sweat a little. But when 4G is available, you forget all that. Even though it's not "4G LTE", it's fast, smokin' fast, as in Angry Birds in about 5 seconds fast.
Only issue with it now is an occasional Error 129, which I do not see much info on.

As soon as this phone was announced I pre ordered it and put my Triumph up for sale before the price tanked. After 6 replacement Triumphs I was definitely looking for a better solution.

My triumph was nothing but trouble. The back button would randomly stop working, the screen would become unresponsive, it would take 5 minutes to get a GPS lock, I could go on for a while..

I have 0 problems with the Evo. Signal could be a little better, but that's a complaint about Virgin Mobile and not the phone itself. Big thanks to all the developers here for the root/s-off procedure as well as the custom radios and ROMs. I finally have a phone that i'll be happy with for a year or two.

I have both running side-by-side in my house. My husband with the Evo & me,with the MT. His Evo is stock, soon to be rooted. My MT runs MIUI 2.4.20 with grace! The MT has the latest AGPS Patch Fix from XDA Devs site. The rom & mOCK kernel are from here. To get almost all of the performance that the EVO enjoys, I had to research & hack EVERYTHING!
I have the great devs to thank for the performance I enjoy. I do like my camera better. It seems to make pics that aren't as dark. The GPS locks on in two seconds flat as opposed to his taking 10-20 seconds, and NOT always accurate. His hardware is better, but my rom is tops! I guess I have an EVO to hack now?!

The HTC EVO V 4G is Virgin Mobile's first 4G WiMAX Android device. And if it looks familiar, it is because the phone is the same as the EVO 3D, but optimized for this network. Release date is set for May 31st, 2012, for a price of $300 off-co... Read More
