Default Radio Shack $99 Sale Verified

Went into Radio Shack last night to verify the $99 HTC EVO V sale. Clerk looked up on their in-store computer and verified the sale is on from 3/2 to 3/16. She did say the only one available is the black one. I may try to get Best Buy to price match as I want the white one. However, Best Buy's website did not even show the EVO V when I checked last night. Not even as sold out or out-of-stock! Any where I can get the white one that price matches?

As far as I know they never made a white EVO V for Virgin Mobile, only black and plum. I would take whatever color you can get, I think these phones are on the way to being gone forever.

The white model was a Radio Shack exclusive Sprint Evo 3d, it has never been an option for the Evo V, to get one you would have to buy the parts and assemble it yourself.

Went into my closest Radio Shack today (Sat) and talked to the manager about the $99 sale on the EVO V starting tomorrow (Sunday the 3rd). He had none in stock and he checked all the stores in the Dallas area and not one had the phone. He said their deliveries are on Friday (yesterday) and none came into any of the stores. This is the day before an advertised sale on the phone starts!!! And Radio Shack wonders why they are losing money! To advertise something and not stock the stores with that item is worse than stupid. He took my name and said he will call if one comes in but it would be at least next Friday when they get their next delivery.

Have a feeling I won't be getting this phone at the $99 price which is the main reason I was going to try it.

I can confirm that Best Buy will match prices, as that's how I got my sister to buy this phone when it was on Virginmobileusa.com for $150. If they match to online vendors, they will definitely match the Radio Shack price.

Got mine for $270 on launch day and am quite happy with it, considering that the Intercept and then the Triumph cost me as much. I remember when Virgin was selling the Rumor 2 pos for $100. Definitely be crazy not to jump on it, even for $150 no other prepaid comes close. :what:

Checked Best Buy online tonight. They don't even have the EVO V on the website anywhere, even as OOS. They do have the Sprint EVO 3D version. Only EVO V items are accessories.

Wonder if this phone is being discontinued?

None of the 4 local Radio Shacks that I called today had the Evo V in stock. Two of three Best Buy stores were out of stock when I called, with one claiming to have 6 left. I am going to see about picking up another one tomorrow (gave my Evo V to my wife to stop her from buying an iPhone, it's hard going back to my old Optimus V with busted GPS!). If they are out of that, I will probably get an Optimus Elite since there is a killer ROM out for it and it should perform very well, at least for a few months until the SGSIII comes out on VM (IF it does).

So, the big price cut on this must mean that Virgin is trying to clear out the stock of these. Is it to get people to jump onto the SGSII and Galaxy Victory, or does it mean that there will be a successor to the Evo V coming soon? Frankly, I do not see any any upgrade appeal in the SGSII or Victory compared to the Evo V (for someone that already has an Evo V). Now that they are rolling out 4G LTE and the SGSIV will hit the market in a few months, I wonder if they are getting ready to launch the SGSIII on Virgin. THAT is one that seems like a fairly worthy upgrade.

So, clearly the giant price cut means that they want to clear stocks. What do people think it means, or am I reading into it too much?

I think I agree with you. They are probably clearing the way for the successor. I hope they get the Evo LTE instead, as it's a beautiful phone and won't cost nearly as much as the Galaxy S3, which I believe they will get sooner rather than later.

It sounds like the HTC Evo 4G LTE is a decent update to the Evo spec-wise.
HTC EVO 4G LTE vs HTC EVO 3D - Phone specs comparison

Although, it would be cool if it used the MSM8960T with the updated 3xx series GPUs...

Anyway, we'll see what the price breakdown ends up being between the SGSIII and Evo LTE. I think that the AMOLED screen on the SGSIII looke better, but the phones have identical specs otherwise, as far as I am concerned.

Here in the Dallas area no one has the phone and it is not available on-line either. The manager of one of the stores I called said for some reason HTC is not sending any of the phones to Radio Shack warehouses. He says no one he has contacted at Radio Shack knows why. He is getting tons of calls from irate customers and cannot get an answer why they are not getting phones. He did say it is a problem at HTC's end, not Radio Shack. Maybe HTC has received so many returns that they don't want to get a bunch more of these phones out there...

Called literally 40+ stores in the area from Radio Shack, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy. Finally found ONE at a Best Buy Mobile. Showed up with the Radio Shack ad, the dude at the Best Buy Mobile "verified in stock status" at a Radio Shack, and sold it to me for the $99.99 price. WINRAR!!!

Well, after spending yesterday looking online and calling every RS and BB in the Dallas area (and there are a LOT of them!), today I tried the BB Mobile like the earlier poster. None of them had them either. My last shot was Target stores. I finally found one store that had one left! Told them to hold it and I would be ASAP! Took the ad Watagump posted several days ago and they price matched. So I finally got one!

On another note, the ad Watagump posted should have been in today's (Sunday) paper as usual. RS ads along with everyone else's are always in the Sunday paper. However, it wasn't, which surprised me. Either it is regional or they decided to pull it as none of the phones are available. The ad was on their website but the phones are out of stock though...

I am glad to see at least the deal was real. I was a little worried about it since the ad was posted quite some time in advance. A lot of shady dealings happen over the internet, glad to help people get a fantastic deal on this phone.

Radio Shack has not had a ad in my local paper in a very very long time. I only see one at black friday. None in the store either. No idea how I would get another store to price match since I believe radio shack printed adverts are mythical.

Called just about every radio shack in my state to find this phone for my wife and no luck. I live on the border of new york and nothing over there either. I do have to go back to the store I got mine at two weeks ago and get the price adjusted. Couple stores told me to all back on their delivery day to see.

I went to a Radio Shack and asked for their weekly ad paper first thing when they opened, then took that to the Best Buy Mobile once they opened up. Price matching was based upon the guy "verifying in stock at Radio Shack"

Never heard of that step before, but the salesman didn't care.

You are lucky they didn't enforce that little rule. I went to the RS website, put in my zip code and printed off the page with the EVO V on it. It said on the page at the top DALLAS, TX ad. Target actually went to RS website to verify the ad and matched with no hassle. They didn't seem to care about my printed ad.

About the Sunday printed RS ads, I get them on a regular basis. Was surprised one wasn't in todays paper.

Seems to be plenty 'in stock' at RS in the Seattle area (98077). Why cant you guys go to RS and request a store-to-store shipment from one of these locations (all show 'In Stock')?

Almost every store around me in a 100 mile radius say in stock, but if you call or go there aren't any. They also said they are not doing the store to store for this item. This phone is gone.

Yeah, that in stock thing is misleading. Of all the stores I checked, only one showed an EVO V in stock on the computer. Turned out it was a defective return.

I think we called the same place lol. One place said the same thing to me. My local store said that they get their shipments on Wednesday, so call back then. Had more than one person tell me that they are getting a lot of calls about the phone. It's on sale till the 16th so I have my fingers crossed on finding one. The OV served me and my wife well but I would like to move her up to something better.

I quite often find things out of stock when searching websites even though it states in stock. That's why depending on the deal and who it is, I always call. I just did this last Thursday when I bought my SSD, website showed all kinds of different info. Its with B&M shopping mostly.

Yeah, no luck finding an Evo V here.

So I picked up an Optimus Elite to replace my defunct Optimus V (broken GPS form repeated falls from my pocket while biking to work lol). With the Sleipnir ROM, it performs as smoothly as the Evo V except the screen sucks in comparison lol. Oh and the battery gets raped while it is in stand-by for some reason. Maybe I need to play with the CPU governor or something. Anyway, the OpE is a pretty darn good phone, and I used an Evo V for a solid year before this until I gave it to my wife. Personally, I think that I would wait for the SGSIII or whatever replaces the Evo V if I had a fully working, but outdated, phone. Nothing else in Virgin's lineup really seems like a sensible replacement or upgrade to the Evo V. The Galaxy Victory is close, but the screen resolution is lower and $300 seems really steep considering that the OpV was selling for considerably less even before the recent sale.

Radio shack store inventory sometimes is based on the truck leaving the warehouse for delivery, not what is actually there. This is probably due to them being independently owned.

I had this happen when I went looking for my Evo V, online said they had it, but didn't, two days later the truck pulled in and they were on it. So keep checking if you are looking.

As for it's replacement, I think the Victory is the replacement, but selling for $300 is a bit steep (by a lot!). I hope we get either a cheap LTE or a truly nice LTE soon, but as it stands, the Victory is a non-starter in my book.

Better yet, get LTE COVERAGE, then worry about phones.

LTE already just about matches Wimax, and by years end, LTE is to match 3g coverage.

Sprint accelerated LTE adoption when they were bought out.
By years end, their entire infrastructure is to be replaced and upgraded.

I'm sure this is why we got LTE coverage way sooner than I expected.

For the next sale the phone will be free and they will give you a $35 top up card, at least at the rate things are going, LOL.

They were pushed by Softbank to be more competitive. They decided to take down the Nextel towers in order to use them to saturate the 3G and LTE markets more thoroughly.

A lot of changes are being pushed our way and I'm happy.
About time we compete with other carriers don't you think? I do.

Agreed, glad to see a LOT of the changes coming.

Their new direction I think is going to make a big difference.

Went to the radioshack I got my EVO to get the price adjusted. At first they did not want to do it but in the end they did. Asked about the phone and called a few places today as well. The manager at my radioshack said they are discontinued and they are not getting anymore at all. Not saying that is it everywhere, just what mine said.

On the plus side I did end up getting one for my wife. Target had two today and they did not have them a day ago. Asked if they would price match and they just did it. Had the flier and that was good enough. Now to get it rooted and put Harmonia on it for her.

I suspect that the price on used models is quickly going to run back up to about $200 as soon as they officially discontinue it. It is still the highest resolution phone on VM.... the S2 is nice but the screen is annoying after using an Evo V for so long.

As far as other stores, like you said Target carries it, and so does Walmart who will also price match. Not all Walmarts list them as an in store item, but the one near me had about 6 of them in stock the other day.

It does appear this is a last sell off of stock. Probably taking a loss on them to get a bunch of people to convert off grandfathered plans to the Evo $35 plan. We'll probably see the Evo LTE soon, and BYOD around summertime.

When I got mine In December, I knew something was up. BB didn't have a lot of accessories for them. Also most of the stock was the Plum color.

Well, just an update to the RS $99.99 sale that ends Saturday. Still haven't found one anywhere. Had several emails with RS customer service to no avail. I recommended they issue rain checks since the phone wasn't available in their stores. No response to that!

Anyone find a source that price matches? The local BB and Target and Wal-Marts don't have any.

Called every BB within 25 miles. No one has one. Don't even have on the website anymore. HTC website does not have the EVO V or EVO 3D anymore either. Guess I am out of luck.....

Around here the Best Buy managers will call other stores to make sure the product is in stock before they match price.

According to the RS district manager, there haven't been any shipments to his region of this phone. I believe his region is Texas and a couple of surrounding states. I guess the only stores that have them had some left overs from previous shipments. Don't understand RS putting this phone on sale when they weren't even available in most areas.

Where do you live? I am in the Dallas area.

Rate this Phone:

The HTC EVO V 4G is Virgin Mobile's first 4G WiMAX Android device. And if it looks familiar, it is because the phone is the same as the EVO 3D, but optimized for this network. Release date is set for May 31st, 2012, for a price of $300 off-co... Read More
