Default HTC EVO V 4G Jellybean?

Will the EVO V ever "officially" get Jellybean or are the days of 'offical' updates for the EVO V long past over?

I talked with their customer service a few months ago and asked if the V was getting a jelly bean update and they said they had no plans on updating it.

Once a device hits around a year or so old, and sees one update, usually its SOL. Minus Nexus devices. So my guess is officially no. Though there are some CM10 ROMs, and they are working on a JB/Sense ROM on XDA.

You are more likely to meet Jesus than see an official Jellybean update.

But don't worry, if you root it you can flash an unofficial jellybean rom thanks to G60madman .

The problem is that virgin never updates their devices. HTC won't either, making the chances extremely slim...

At the moment? Depends. Can you live without sending mms? Do you like vanilla android or sense?

Right now, maybe not. But there's so many other reasons that makes rooting pretty much essential for me. Number one being able to pwn my phone and install/remove, flash and change anything and everything to my hearts delight.
YMMV.

I seldom use MMS, but if need be, the only ones I text with is family and they all. have email addresses. I can easily send it that way.
But for right now, I'm wondering how I ever got along without Google Now. And I can even update.

There has been a fix for MMS. U can send and recieve now. Tested it or myself. Im currently using the ROM and it is GREAT! Im using it as my daily driver! The only thing that doesnt work is 3D. I can easily let go of that! If you need the fix, I am happy to give you the link to it!

Lol true. Virgin needs to step it up if they want to compete with Metro as well as other small companies. The other guys really have some good phones nowadays. Anyway I'm just waiting to see how it goes and the best carrier with the best phone will get my monthly monies

Actually the phone came with GB, it was updated to ICS when Virgin started selling it. I've been using Virgin since they were the first prepaid with Android on the Samsung Intercept and to this day 2 years later this remains the only phone to ever receive an os update.

Didn't the intercept get updated to 2.1 or 2.2?

Sorry, after re-reading my post I can see that it wasn't very clear. I was talking about the Intercept being the only Virgin phone to get updated. From Eclair to FroYo.

Why would you believe an unnamed, uncredited source on a single site as opposed to Virgins 2 year record of NOT releasing updates, especially considering how deeply discounted this phone is. The only update was on their first and only Android at the time, the Intercept. Not a single one since, 2 years later.

Never fear, I've contacted Christopher (who also operates the site) and requested his source for his claim. I've dug a little deeper and found an article by HTC that claims that they are considering updating even 2011 phones to Jellybean that meet the requirements which our phone does. I'm not going to just 100% believe this but it is possible. We also have to consider that this is the first time HTC has had smart phones with Virgin and who knows.

Why don't you just root, recovery, and flash cm10 or aokp jelly bean.

Virgin will never update this phone to that.

If you mean me then I already got aokp running. So I no it doesn't really matter if we get official jelly bean but hey at least 3d would be working in a official I release

I did like paranandroid! I just wish CM10 had the same options as Paranandroid. But I'm currently using CM10, video is sometimes choppy and flash player doesn't work unless u manage to put it in fullscreen. Other than that its great! If you do have any questions message me. Sorry for late reply.

Evervolv 4.2.1 on the shooter nightly is nice! With a MMS and VVM fix everything except 3d works. Google now even talks back to me.

I think it's the fix for the visual voice mail either working or the bug where it would not work the same way as far as notifying you as it does on the stock based roms out there because it's a sprint voicemail app or some darn thing.

I can deal with the voicemail thing! Sounds like its worth a try (: I love flashing ROMS. I'm trying to see which one is best for me. Does video and WiFi tether work?

I just heard the Samsung galaxy S2 for Sprint is getting jelly bean soon. This probably means our phone is at end of life at virgin and sgs2 will take over

It's quite surprising to me that the GS2 is still getting support, and even an upgrade to Jellybean. Is Samsung known for extended support and development? Perhaps my next phone will be a Samsung if this keeps up.

There are several versions of Galaxy SII out there. I believe VM has the Galaxy SII 4G which is a Wimax phone. I didn't see it specified by name, but that doesn't mean it won't get it.

I did see Galaxy SII and Galaxy SII LTE specified though.

That article is also 5 months old. A lot of things in the cell phone world change in that amount of time. The list now could be longer, or shorter.
That's why we have devs.

The HTC EVO V 4G is Virgin Mobile's first 4G WiMAX Android device. And if it looks familiar, it is because the phone is the same as the EVO 3D, but optimized for this network. Release date is set for May 31st, 2012, for a price of $300 off-co... Read More
