YESSSSS! Thank god! I bought this on the fly to beat the ticking clock of 1dealaday for my daughter who has been nagging for an ipad2. Her moms side gets sprint though, so maybe they'll hook it up anyways. Thanks!

I have just ordered myself a View.. was kind of a quick Decision because I was presented with a great Deal! With no contract.. I hope that I won't run into issues using it with WiFi only!?! Does anyone have experience with this? Also should I consider Rooting it?
What's the deal everyone is seeing? I bought the $229.00 daily steals deal. Are the other deals any better? I can't believe I bought this thing. I already bought the $148 HP Touchpad deal on Sunday. Pretty soon I'll have more tablets than an old man with a great healthcare plan.

I got mine through Amazon.. originally 299.00 but I have a friend who works for a university and gets anything from Amazon at as discount so I got it for 200.00 flat!! So I am pretty excited but I am a little worried I will have to get a Sprint plan which I cannot really afford right now!! So again I would like a definite answer from someone who owns this device but uses it w/out a plan, i.e, wifi-only..

Yup, just got my daughters. At first it wasn't working on wifi only but five minutes later and a restart, it works flawlessly on wifi only. Not sure what it was but after entering my wifi password, it wouldn't scan. Nothing but perfect wifi operation since.
I'm using it wifi only. Of course the 4G screen splashes and tries to connect via Sprint but just hit 'Cancel' and your home screen will pop up
oh so does that mean if i turn it off, then boot it up it willl search for sprint connection everytime or is it just set to wifi after you initially set it up. thanks

After the Sprint 4G splash screen, it goes to the home screen when the Wifi is set up. Also, make sure you have data unchecked-that might have something to do with the Sprint connection search after booting up.

I also bought HTC Evo View 4G tablet from 1dealaday. When I check with Sprint store, they are asking me to sign-in 2 year contract :-( Not sure what to do now! Any suggession to get a data plan without sign-in 2 year contract?

There is no reason to have to agree to any contract.
As for the relevant topic of the thread, one thing that was annoying for me was having the Sprint activation pop up every time I turned the tablet on from being completely off. A thread over on XDA said that installing No Lock from the market prevented this from occurring. I'm not sure why it does that since that's not the purpose of the app, but it definitely does. It has cut my boot time down significantly.

Oddly, posts that discussed posts and posting instead of just the issue of rooting somehow got lost in the move. Silly mod.
Oddly, as did posts that were relevant to this thread.
One of the most useful tips I've found regarding the Sprint activation is the use of No Lock over on XDA - Bypass Sprint activation. Having the Sprint activation pop up and slow down the boot time of the tablet significantly when turning it on from being off was one of the few annoying things about the View for me.
For some reason, besides disabling the lock screen, No Lock prevents the Sprint activation from coming up when booting the tablet. If you have fast boot enabled, the tablet will literally turn on in seconds. The first couple times shutting down and booting up after installing this, I thought the tablet never really had shut down and that the screen had just been turned off. It's a drastic difference.

I did subcribe to Sprint without 2 year contract. Just use your tablet and go to your app 'Sprint Zone' and choose 'No Commitment' Plan. Pay using your credit card. I paid for 1 month data with 1.5 GB monthly limit for $49.99+tax. You cannot check your data usage using this prepaid plan. Hope this help.

Helps immensely! I just got off the phone with Sprint (Philippines I believe) and the woman told me that I'd have to get locked into a 2 year agreement. I told her that I already had the equipment and didn't need a 2 year agreement subsidy for the phone but she didn't seem to know what I was hoping to get accomplished.
I'm actually giving the tablet away as a gift and to me that would make one lousy gift, "Here I got you a tablet, and a 2 year commitment which requires you to pay $39.99 per month!". It's good to know that you can do month-to-month, which I intend on paying for a few months as part of the gift giving process.
I just got back from the Sprint store and the above plan is no longer available per the Sprint employee I spoke with. I'm not sure why they won't let someone join their network without forcing them to join for 2 years. Considering Sprint doesn't even offer "real" 4G, you'd think they would welcome pretty much anyone.
While at the store another gentleman was also hoping to get a month-to-month contract. I showed him what real LTE was all about with my Verizon 4G phone. The salesman wasn't too pleased, "Our Wimax is just the same as LTE".....
Updated this tablet to Honeycomb prior to wrapping it up for gift giving. Sprint wasn't constantly hounding me for a data package, and I confirmed that I could pre-pay month by month. One thing I was hoping to do though is use the Sprint free for a day demo to see if they were interested in getting month to month service on the device. They live out in the sticks and voice service much less data service is always a difficulty.
You can refer to this link for prepaid Sprint plan. Most of the staffs in the Sprint store may not know this plan.
Jeepers. I would rather pay for wifi hotspot and use my Razr, rather than them prices. 2gb for $30 is a better buy.... assuming you do not have to get a contract.... or do not use other methods for tether.
