Default Laptop hangs when connecting Explorer to USB

When I connect my phone to the laptop (vista 32 bit) to USB, after 5-6 seconds my laptop becomes unresponsive and leaves me no option but force shutdown and restart..

As soon as I connect, a prompt is shown on the phone's main screen to select connection type (charge only, disk drive, etc)..after confirming the mode selection, my laptop stops responding..

It happens everytime I try to connect my phone to USB..

Hope someone could help..
