Hi folks - ok, I have just upgraded my memory card (1Gb to 16Gb!) and also forced the device to use the memory card for newly installed apps. I've also moved all the apps I can to the new card.

I have copied all the files from my old memory card to the new one verbatim; these files include my photos for my Gallery.

Now, when I open my Gallery app, it tells me that I need to free up some more memory and will not let me look at my pictures.

Any ideas, please?

Ok, sorted it. A quick restart made the phone look at the memory card and now it can see where the pics are.
