Default how do you save apps to

Sd Card and can you run them from there?

Living on nothing but borrowed time trying not to spend it all.

Ask and ye shall receive!

This is a stock feature in 2.2 Froyo, so you'd need a Froyo Rom for your hero(no official froyo roms)

Or you can try this:

Either way you'll need root access.
