Default Hero - Sprint apps = fast like Eris?

From some of the initial reviews, it is being said that the Eris seems to be faster and less laggier than the Hero. Now that I think about it, Eris doesn;t have all those Sprint apps that the Hero does, like NFL, Nascar, etc. Now that we found a way to remove those Sprint apps, is it possible for the Hero to be dramatically faster? Has anyone who has already removed these apps noticed this?

I've removed many apps now that I have root access. I will say it seems faster, but that's because I expect it to be. Then again, I don't find the phone all that slow except on a restart of the device.

Hey -- just wanted to add this, I am on Telus here in Canada, we just got the hero released here last week, and since day 1 I have had no lag issues at all with my phone, the only issue I had to resolve was the known battery drain issue with SMS.

My phone did not come loaded with any extra apps from Telus, or any junk like that, that could be a big part if Sprint is loading it up with garbage apps, I would definetly remove them, as this phone can be very fast

I've rooted, but I'm afraid to just delete from the filesystem. Is there a guide on how to remove the built-in apps? Can you explain how you did it?

from what i've seen, both Eris and Hero have the same processor. Sure removing apps will free up some space but if you don't run it, it shouldn't effect it.

And not to be a naysayer but "lag" compared to what? Let the phone be its own phone. No one's going to be fully satisfied with anything that's offered so the least you can do is accept it for what it is, not what it's not doing compared to the competitor. If you compare it to a WinMo, the "lag" is next to nothing. Compare it to the iPhone, "lag" is a little more. Remember, it's a computer in your hand. Don't expect it to be as quick as a Razr lol

I don't think it is unreasonable to compare it to other phones, I certainly hope HTC is comparing it to the iPhone, because I'd like they to be looking at everyone else and aiming just a bit (or a lot lol) higher.

And if it's problematic, like the lag on the Hero CAN sometimes be, I don't think it's unreasonably to be a little disappointed by it. Lets not forget, it's a 5xxMhz computer in your hand, and all things considered, it SHOULDN'T be as laggy as it sometimes is, which is proven by how fast some of the custom ROM's are.

you're absolutely right. It's not unreasonable to compare, it just makes me wonder if everyone that complains are the ones that just can't accept it and have to compare it to the leading competitor. It ranks right up there with saying "iPhone Killer" when a new touchscreen phone comes out like the iPhone was the first touch screen. You know what i mean? Bottom line, if people keep saying "this" phone is better, why not get it then, right? Why get something only to complain that it doesn't live up to the almighty iPhone? Does that make sense?
