To install these, disable Wifi and connect via GRPS/HSDPA
Go to http://orangeworld.co.uk on your Hero
Scroll down on the page until you see the "Download Orange Maps - free in your plan" and tap on it
On the next page select on "Download Orange Maps" to download.
Once downloaded, tap to install and whilst installing it will ask about installing non marketplace apps, tick the "Unknown sources" box then the back arrow to install!
Should feed your GPS needs whilst waiting for 2.0!
EDIT It kept force closing for me on the initial launch if the phone went into standby. I stopped the screen from fading by tapping it and that seemed to solve it for me. Once it was set up it was all goood!

The Following User Says Thank You to chaz_uk For This Useful Post:
EDIT: I'm scared I'll be charged.. Install or not?!?
It told me before it was all setup if I qualified (which I did).
From the HotUKdeals post:

I believe Orange Maps are "free/included" as part of any Orange package which originally cost £30 or over (even if you got a deal where its a bit cheaper).
I'd say give it a try as you can always not accept the terms and stop it from setting up!

I was given two choices as follows (the first saying it was free the 2nd being Orange Maps professional which is £2.50 a month for me.
If you are worried about being charged I agree with G8D and Brad and not accept the terms.
I'd go through the setup again but it would mean that I had to restore my Hero (and I dont really want to do that!). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it didn't go through the whole setup process sadly!
If in doubt, give it a miss (or call Orange to see what you're entitled to).

Hi All, I have just downloaded this and tried it today. It seems OK, a bit laggy on roundabouts etc, graphics are OK not stunning. I was really interested in the speed cameras. It would seem you can only have this option on when actually doing a pre programmed route. This is a pity as ideally I would like it when driving in general.
On a second note, it seems on my tariff I have to pay in full, but when ringing orange I got there call centre in India and was informed it is free on my package. I asked her to send me a text saying this which she said she would do, surprise surprise I did not get a text.
I was wondering if anyone has tried orange maps and also has Co-pilot, i would be interested in a comparison.
If I only have to pay £2.50 a month for the professional version i will. I don't think its worth £7.50 a month though if my tariff does not cover it. That said I remember reading that we will not get google turn by turn navigation with the 2.1 update. Its only America that has this.
I just phoned orange to check whether I'd have to pay. The first time they cut me off mid phone conversation...I phoned again and the woman kept saying "nothing is showing on the system" I kept saying that I'm sure it's not because I haven't accepted the T&C yet... I just want to know if I will have to pay on my contract...
Useless
I'm going to accept the T&C I think it said it was free for 7 days and then I would have to pay - I'll just cancel it before then.

I had 2 options here, one for free, one for premium...
Hmm, I'm on a £25 a month contract but with £5 for internet, I wonder if that counts.
Might give them a ring later but doesn't sound like I'll have much luck..
You've done me a favour bringing this thread to the top. I upgraded my Orange account when I got the Hero, to encompass internet. It was due to come into affect on 15th March, but for some reason didn't. I phoned them, they apologised and said it would now kick in on 15th April. I rang them after reading this thread yesterday, just to double check it was still on for that date, but also to see if Orange Maps were included as it was going to cost £40 p/m for the package.
When I got through, yet again it had not gone onto the system for some reason !!!!!
Not only that, I was told the package they had offered me in March, was not available anymore. ( 1200 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited internet )
I explained I had been let down by them twice now, so the very nice lady offered me 800 mins, unlimited texts & internet. I pushed her a bit saying that was nowhere near what they offered me before, and she was able to give me 1000 mins, unlimited texts & internet, and when I also asked for OrangeMaps she didn't bat an eyelid, just gave me it.
Thanks again for this thread, if I hadn't of seen it, I wouldn't have phoned Orange, and would've been let down again on the 15th April.
