This have been discussed here and here, yet there doesn't seem to be an answer.
I need to install HTC Sync on my computer so that i can install the latest ROM update from T-Mobile.
I get the following error when trying to install the version 2.0.4 of the software. I get a dialog that saids something like configuring the HTC Driver and then;
'Error 1722. There is a problem with his Windows Installer package. A program run as part of rht esetup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or a package vendor. Action CA_DriversInstall, location: ...\MSIB9.tmp, command...'
I think its mainly due to the fact that i'm runnning Windows XP 64bit SP3. I have tried the usual stuff, including running the installer in compatability mode. But to no joy.
Please note that i understand there i a resolution to syncing on 64bit machines but i can't even install the program.
Can anyone please give me some ideas about getting this working? I'm open to try anything. Thanks in advance.

I was having problems trying to install HT Sync so that I could do the ROM upgrade to Hero_2.73.405. I don't remember the errors I was getting, but after a lot of googling I found a post which said, in effect, you don't need HTC Sync installed, you just need the SD Card drivers (which for me installed themselves pretty much automatically the first time I connected the Hero to the PC). It was a few days ago, and I didn't make notes, but as I remember:
a: the USB connected notification should be showing on the Hero
b: the card is not mounted
c: the "USB debugging" checkbox in Settings / Applications / Development is checked
d: run the downloaded ROM Upgrade Utility from the PC
Actually this suits me fine as I don't use Outlook so I have no use for HT Sync. Hope this helps
Ive had nothing but problems using htc sync since Ive had this phone. the latest release included. Sprite backup is selling thir 29.00 backup app now on special for .99 cent
I think HTC software should work since Im buying thier phone, I should have a tool that works but for 99 cents I think Im going this route.
I assume outside links arent allowed so google sprite android

Threre is no real reason to use HTC Sync with hero, Use your google account for all contacts and calendars, or Use Mybackup Pro, HTC sync is just too much agro, imho

Back in the game, what did I miss?
I recently had the dreaded Error 1722 when trying to install to four computers. 1 was sucessful with 3 1722 failures. I tried everything, delete temp files, unreg and re-reg msiexec, install the latest windows installer, stop Anti-Virus services, etc. etc. This was all by suggestion from HTC after waiting on hold for 30 minutes and the final result was to consult support.microsoft.com in regards to windows installer errors.
How I resolved this:
First of all these computers are all XP Pro SP3 and all part of a domain. I logged off the current user and then logged in as administrator on the local computer account. Once logged in I then ran the install program and this worked perfectly on all three computers even with my Symantec AntiVirus program running. XP Home users will need to change how they log onto the computer so that they need to use the alt ctrl del method and then they can enter username administrator and as in most XP Home installs there is probably no password for the administrator account. Domain users may need to get the administrator password from their IT people.
Good Luck!

Getting error 1722 while attempting to install HTC Sync.
I'm running vista. Dont' see any solutions that apply to this operating system having this issue.
UPDATE/SOLUTION****
I am on a Dell Inspiron running Vista. Got the error 1722 while trying to install. Did all of the recommended things like turn off virus software and shut down other programs and run as admin. Still got the error.
The Dell Inspiron has problems with the USB connections/drivers. For example the built in web cam frequently gets an error saying that the hardware must be reinstalled or removed or something impossible like that. The fix is to plug something into a USB port.
Well it turns out that by removing the USB driver by means of the device driver, rebooting and plugging something into a USB port to get the driver reinstalled did the trick. No error 1722 and I didn't have to turn off the virus software or shut down any other programs.
Doesn't make sense to me exactly, but I saw something in another forum that pointed me in that direction and knowing about the web cam issue I gave it a try.
Hopefully this will help someone else fix the problem.

I had this same exact problem. Drove me nuts. Read somewhere that there might be a conflict with iTunes. Fortunately, my iTunes is on an external hard drive. I unplugged it, reloaded the HTC Sync software and it booted right up with no errors. If you can somehow 'disable' iTunes, or disconnect any external hard drives, give it a shot. It might work for you like it did me. Good luck!!!
