Wifi automatic login?

I have a question
is the WIFI on Htc Hero designed to auto login to a network that i had logged in before ? or i have to download an app that does that job ?

As soon as you turn WiFi on it logs in automatically to networks you've used in the past (unless you tell it to forget that network)
