Default Orange 2.1 UPdate? Trigerring after so long

I recently acquired a HTC Hero on Orange with 1.5 installed.

I have updated the ROM to 2.73.61.66 and now wondering if I can trigger the 2.1 download. tried various dates but after so long since the OTA update will Orange still have it sitting on servers.

Is my only option a custom ROM?

This is the version of 1.5 you need to install to get the 2.1 OTA update: HTC Hero - ROM upgrade for HTC Hero (Orange)

The build number is 2.73.61.66

Yes, 2.73.61.66 installed and phone rebooted. All working fine but no sign of any impending OTA update.

Orange Contract SIM installed.

Phone been on constantly since then. Previous Android updates have appeared instantly once ROM upgraded though I have never updated the Hero before.

Yeah, it should pop up immediately from the reports I've heard.

Try going to the dialer and typing in *#*#CHECKIN#*#* (replacing the letters with the associated number key) and dialing it.

1.5 didn't have a check for updates button, but that should achieve the same effect.

Hi, tried this several times and no update or reaction from the phone.

1. Go to standard dialer (no customs installed)
2. Code input
3. Code disappears and no action from phone or activity

Orange UK advise the 2.1 update is still available on the network. All other data services on phone working fine.

I have tried re-installing ROM update after a factory reset to ensure nothing else was causing an issue.

Any further suggestions welcome!
